Terrible

by Chelsea on Oct 1, 2019

This is the worst company ever, doesn't deserve even one star. Long wait times up to an hour or more. No one knows answers to questions. Overpriced over $900 more a year compared to other insurer quotes. Been trying to cancel my policies with them and keep getting the run around that they can't do anything as the system not working and no explanation as to why just to try again later!

Overpriced

Had my Home and Auto Insurance up for renewal and I called TD to let them know I needed a competitive quote. They asked me several questions and then raised my rates. No Kidding! Turns out my unused line of credit on my free and clear home is a liability. I always thought I was paying too much with TD, so I went online to get some quotes. I am now saving $1330 by leaving the overpriced TD Meloche Monnex.

Refusal to insure

by Stampede on Apr 27, 2017

I have an auto insurance policy with TD Meloche Monnex. An agent offered insurance on the contents of my condo apartment and I requested confirmation by email. It did not come and I learned on inquiry that they withdrew the offer because my apartment is not presently insured. I see no sense in that because what is insured is the same. I was told it was their policy. Other bank-based insurance companies told me the same. Why? Are the insurance companies conditioning people to insure their valuables with them at all times?

Poor Service and Policies

Had a renters insurance policy for a few days with them, the quote they gave me to start was several dollars a month less than what they ended up charging me. Found an other company that gave me renters insurance for half of what TD would. Ended up cancelling the TD insurance yet was charged a 69$ cancellation fee I was never told about. They wouldn't negotiate at all on charging me this. Would not recommend this company to anyone. There's going for profits then there's gouging people at every opportunity. Seems TD is the latter.

No Notice Home Insur Cancelled

by Sri on May 31, 2016

Being a loyal TD Bank customers, we opted for TD Home Insurance and they have cancelled our Home Insurance without giving any notice or call and would not provide is with a new quote and the state they dont wish to provide us any more Home Insurance Service due to non payment. To start with it was a pre-auth payment just like the one we have set for auto insurance.Since the time we received their first mail(which according to TD is not the first mail) we have been trying to reach them to resolve. The Customer Service Rep & Manager were rude and wouldnt help us. Finally after a long struggle they issued a new quote and when we called back to discuss they said its rejected as we have nonpayment history. Am surprise how much they dont know their customers. We were warned by friends but still went ahead with TD Insurance and today we are worried and shocked at our state. TD has no quality, respect for customers and cant be trusted any more. I wonder if i should bank with them anymore. They have put us in deep trouble and wouldnt help. I received no earlier correspondence from them on the cancellation and they have put us in risk. Would be great if we receive help in escalating this matter higher up and getting a resolution.

Customer for 29 years

by Mark in the Yukon on Feb 10, 2016

After calling them (talked to 5 diff people) and asking why our premium has gone up so much in the last few years we were offered to check into our distance from the local firehall. We were told that if we were under 8km we could see a reduction in our rate. After getting the information and finding out we were less than 3km were then told it has to be the first responder in a call and we must prove that. Seems like every time we meet there demands we are given another road block. Got two other quotes both were considerably less. I guess paying (overpaying it seems!) for over 29 years- means nothing to this company. We will be cancelling our house and car insurance after this treatment.

Households in Alberta pay, on average, approximately $60/month in homeowners’ insurance costs. We can help to push these costs even further down. Get a house insurance quote today to start saving today. Rates start at $20/month.

Terrible Customer Service

by Jenna on Jun 24, 2015

I wasn't impressed with my last 2 interactions with customer service at all. First, they do not explain all the options properly, all that I was given as an option for putting my home insurance on hold, while I am renting out the place (because I cannot rent out under my policy, it will be illegal too), is that I can't. They had never clearly mentioned the option of Tenant Insurance that is available on the market and now they claim that they did. Second, they are not helpful at all. When you start asking questions, they reply with the attitude like I am suppose to know every single little caveat of the insurance world, instead of being understanding and informative.

Beware on renewal

We have had Meloche Monnex ever since they took over Liberty Mutual (+10 years) and in recent years the home policy has been creeping up and even though we never had claims. Every time I called, seemed they change their coverage and/or gave excuses on taxes/ gov't changes. I had always not bothered to look around. Now, I finally did and got much better quotes elsewhere and including Auto. I suggest to shop around when your renewal takes place.

Online Bait and Switch

by TD Customer on Mar 12, 2015

I had applied online and then called TD Insurance (Meloche Monnex) immediately. My online quote was $1,150. The representative on the phone gave me a quote of $1,577. I told him the difference was too great. He agreed to let me apply online again while we were on the phone. We used the same criteria on the quotation. The result was $1,150. He asked me to wait for 5 minutes and then said that the best he could do was $1,517. I got another insurance company quote (same terms) for $940.

waste of time

So I'm buying a home and shopping around for insurance. TDMM appears to have great rates, so I try to fill out the quote online. Something turns red and I have to call to complete the quote (another 45 minutes down the drain, but "oh, that's not a problem."). I get the quote in the mail, seems good. I call to request the policy. Umm... we can't find your quote. (Seems my # got reused). Spend 1/2 hour trying to find the original quote. Start all over again, spend another hour on the phone because the agent cannot correctly copy anything down over the phone. Me "1-2-3" ... he says "2-2-3?" I say, No, "1-2-3" he says "3-2-3?" You get the idea. Then we get to the end, but now it has to go to an underwriter for review, I'll call you back on... " Never heard from again. (I've tried getting auto policies before too, but they NEVER call back like they say they will). I can only conclude they don't WANT my business.
