Dropped after 22 years

by Dumped on Jul 25, 2013
2.5 out of 5 stars

I was not affected by the calgary flood. Roof blew off in a windstorm in 2011. It took three months for an adjuster to show up and inspect. I was told I had to take action to ensure no further damage but anything I spent may not be covered. In the end all was covered but it took 8 months for their contractor to replace the roof. I had a minor sewer back up due to a collapsed city sewer line. Quick response but poor cleanup by their contractor. I completed the cleanup myself. A registered letter has arrived saying that they will not renew my insurance next month.

Turfed after 20 years

After 20 years , TD sent us a letter telling us that we no longer meeting their underwriting guidelines . Two claims and two incidents in the past 3 years and that was enough for them . An incident is where you call the insurance company and talk to the claims department, at the end of the day we made no claims on theese calls becasue we just wanted to make sure that there was no damage during a hail storm . Am I not following due diligence by having them come out to check to make sure? According to their metrics , you can have one claim for $ 700,000 and your still OK in their eyes . If you have two claims totalling $50,000 and one incident , your a high risk client now. Time for them to say good-bye to you. As the client rep said , you are at higher risk of impacting our rate of return. I said if I have to move my home insurance and going to move my car insurance as well. TD response was " it really doesnt matter to us - go ahead"
Come Hell or High Water , TD won't be there !

Poor service from TD Meloche

We had damage to our roof. Filed a claim. They put forward a roofing co from their approved vendor list and assured us this was a reputable vendor. The roof was fixed, or so we thought. 2.5 to 3 years later we started seeing stains from the water on our ceiling. Called TD. They ignored us and when we finally did get a response it was just to say so sorry the warranty period is over and that roofing co is now bankrupt and they tried to convince us the damage was due to condensation (it wasn't). We had a certified roofer assess our roof. They took numerous photos and highlighted numerous deficiencies in the work done by the TD appointed roofing co. Things were on backwards, were not in place at all or were missing portions of the standard requirements. TD shot back that it is out of warranty and other excuses to disregard our claim. We now are out of pocket for the 1k paid for the deductible on the first claim, have increased monthly costs due to filing a claim and are now out of pocket 12k (we had the roof fully done by professionals to stop the damage to our interior). We also have water stains and missing chunks of the ceiling inside and who knows what other interior/exterior damage due to their recommended vendor's negligence...so will have more out of pocket costs to deal with the bad decision we made to trust TD when they recommended their "trusted and approved" roofing co to us. Lesson learned. If your insurance co puts forward a vendor for you to use don't accept them. Get an independent quote and find your own reputable roofing co to take on the work. I will start my search for a new company to take on our 2 cars, house and other insurance needs we currently do through TD Meloche Monnex. If we could afford a lawyer I would take them to court.

11 years 1 claim No coverage

by Go Scotia on Sep 8, 2015

After 11 years with TD. Meloche for home and autos and paying $5000/yr I had a wind and hail claim on my roof that was leaking and was only ten years old. The claims adjuster literally lifted his hand over his head holding his camera and took pictures. Brought the camera down and said, "ya this isn't insured" and left.

The only silver lining is Scotia is about $1000 per year less!

Never go TD, no wonder they use a Shakespeare actor, they are only pretending to offer insurance.

Ridiculous wait times

by LanaSmith on Sep 5, 2019
2 out of 5 stars

For the past week, I've been trying to get a hold of an agent to update the status of my home roof. Meloche and Monnex limited insurance coverage on the roof because I couldn't provide them with an exact date they were last replaced (new-to-me home). The wait times are beyond ridiculous. For three days I've been on hold for minimum 2 hours before giving up. Yesterday I got lucky after an hour and a half... and then the guy I spoke with said he needed to find an agent licensed in my province... and then before I could respond I was back on hold for another hour before giving up. That said, when I do speak to someone they are fantastic. I'm pretty happy with the value for money, but I've never had to make a claim before. Please fix this Meloche and Monnex. I've been a loyal customer for 15 years and only recently has this become an issue. I'm starting to look around for a new provider.

Do Not Use

I had a very bad experience with this company. Awful customer service. Called them May 6 to start a claim. They promised a callback within 1-5 days. Never called back. Called them May 10, they again promised a callback 100% within 1-5 days by adjuster. Never called back. Now again May 18 called them to complain. No one has called me. Meanwhile, my roof is getting more and more damaged with every rainfall. This company just takes your money but never follows through with any claims. Be aware, and use another insurance provider.

TD Insurance is a fraud...

Please be aware of TD Insurance! I have been with this insurance company for years and I got hail damage which is beyond my control. My house was fully insured by TD insurance and they refused my claim. In every house in my area, their insurance company replaced their roof and siding, TD Insurance did not fix the damage! I was insured with them for years and they did this to me. Please don't go with this company, they will refuse your claim and all the money you paid them for years will go out the window. This company and their employees are ruthless rattlesnakes. They will give you insurance but never ever will pay out if anything goes wrong. Run, run for your life from them. They are the biggest liars in the insurance business!

Changes 2013

I have been with the company for twenty+ years. Now they refuse coverage for above ground water damage because my roof is older than fifty years - yet a tin roof is the best and most long-lasting. Also now limit sewage back-up to $15000.
