Double charging

by thebodger on Feb 22, 2018
1 out of 5 stars

Beware of this company. I have sold my house and cars in Ontario. Cancelled my policies. Re-instated insurance on a house and a vehicle in PEI. Got a phone call from Aviva that my rates were going up, so I checked my automatic debit payment. To my shock, I discovered that this company was double charging from Ontario account, and now my PEI account. After three hours on the phone, some idiot finally found a problem. He said it will take at least 15 days to get my $1200 back. Great way to treat an old age pensioner.

STAY AWAY!!!

I'm switching to another insurance carrier. Biggest issues: getting hold of someone, waiting on the phone for hours on hold. Enough is enough, taking my auto, home, life insurance someplace else. Give yourself a favour and stay away from this insurance company.

Calls to CSRs = groundhog day

I wish I had read some of these reviews prior to switching to Aviva last August. If my experience arranging for a new policy is any indication, I sure hope I don't ever need to make a claim! Two hours on phone getting quote... Not a simple policy, for two properties, three autos and a boat, so I don't begrudge this time spent at all. I provided much detail about the properties, including outbuildings, and the boat - just a small runabout but we want to ensure there is liability coverage. Placed on hold several times while the agent spoke to underwriting for clarification. Again, no problem, in fact, I commented that I appreciated the agent being so thorough. Left with a list of info to provide - driver profiles for my daughters, serial number for the boat, mortgage #, etc. Five days later called back to provide all of the above. Not a quick call. Many of the same questions asked, as though info had never been entered in a file. Finished call satisfied, however, that all would be in place, policy bound, payment arranged... Based on this, arranged to cancel with the current insurer on the renewal date. Since then: NOTHING received by mail (despite expressions of shock every time I tell Aviva CS this, and in fact incredulity - "Well, did you check your mailbox?" - seriously???). Policy documents posted on Myaviva website do not reflect coverage promised both over the phone and clearly documented in emails from contact@avivainsurance.ca. Repeated requests for additional information (that has already been provided), then a demand for a marine survey of a 16' runabout (again, all pertinent details provided - never mention of the marine survey). Most recent call one hour in length, again answering the same series of questions, again a comment, "I'm sorry, someone clearly has not done their job here, I'm going to make it right." Borders on fraudulent behaviour - make promises, get customer under contract, ignore promises. The couple of hundred dollars I've saved are far outweighed by the time wasted and the fact that I have no assurance in writing at all that I have the coverage I've been promised over the phone and email. Shameful.

So Disappointed in AVIVA

Last year I had my insurance with CAA (Aviva), really nice company... then they sold out to My Insurance Company Hamilton (still with Aviva).I paid my Auto Insurance in full and because they combined all 3 of my insurance to come due on the day I had to pay the other 2 insured houses with a void cheque each month... everything seemed fine, even got my two 2 renewal house policies... so there didn't seem to be any problems... 'til I received a cancellation notice...no reason given... apparently, they forgot to send me some mysterious form to sign... Sandy W knew right away what had happened and even told me I wasn't at fault, that the mistake was theirs... still no one sent me the unsigned form... then suddenly a lady named Shannon took over and I was given an ultimatum to rush up there in rush hour traffic within 2 1/2 hrs to sign a form that wasn't the original form but for something else... at 69yrs of age, I am not going to endanger my Auto Insurance or my life to sign a form that wasn't the form of their original mistake... made up orriginally by a guy named Deno... I was threatened with cancellation again and would be sorry if I had to start a whole new policy again and at a higher cost... Aviva, you should listen to your faithful clients, not some new company that took over and is goofing up my policies... the stress has been very bad for me... I will accept an apology and activation of my original policies, nothing less... the new company needs to get their act together... thank you for this opportunity to voice my complaint... Cherry A.

Not transparent

I have 2 properties and 2 vehicles insured with Aviva (now only 2 vehicles). My renewal for a property was one or two months before my house was set to close and as part of the renewal I mentioned that. I was assured it wouldn’t be an issue and I should just call back to cancel after closing. Long story short, I had to cancel the entire policy and not just the one home. I then was also charged 21% of the entire annual premium, I was automatically billed twice in a month (Oct 7 and Oct 25) and still told I had a balance of $33 owing. 21% if the annual premium for 30ish days of coverage. Their only response was it was included in the package ( which is about 40+ pages) since it covers 4 items. I asked if they planned on doing anything to retain me since I was still a customer. They (paraphrasing) asked if wanted to re-instate my policy to avoid the penalty. And then also “reminded” me that if I cancelled my other vehicle policy I’d be charged another 21%

Claim

by Lisa on Oct 11, 2019

August 2018 I tried to make a claim for my roof leaking. The insurance adjuster denied my claim saying my shingles were too old and told me I could appeal it if I wanted to. We did not appeal it. It was a small job so we did it ourselves. Last month, September 2019, my broker's office calls & says the underwriter has questions about my claim. At first, I had no clue what she was talking about. After some back & forth calls, the questions were about the denied roof claim. They didn't believe I fixed my roof, gave me 2 days to submit pictures. My broker took pics & submitted them. Broker calls me a few days later & tells me my insurance is being cancelled because underwriter says roof wasn't done by a licensed roofer. I was never told that we had to do any of this when the claim was denied. I received registered from Aviva saying my insurance is being cancelled and all the reason says is "underwriting reasons". I pay my premium every month and this was the only claim that I have ever tried to make. I can not believe how I have been treated. I am not pulling all of my vehicles and motorcycles away from Aviva. Absolutely disgusting how they treat a good customer.

The worse broker

by Nick on Jun 7, 2019
1.5 out of 5 stars

The customer service that I received from Aviva's broker, was unbelievably poor, rude and disrespectful. I was up to buy insurance for my house and auto, and my house was due first. They convinced me to buy my house insurance at the moment and gave me a price for the future when I bundle it with my auto in the next month. When the time came for the auto, they gave me a crazy price and put me in a situation that if I go with another provider, I lose the discount of a bundle. Even for this, I had to call them every day and they left me in between without issuing me a policy and I couldn't drive the car for days until I had to buy from somewhere else! Headaches and anger are what you get with Aviva.

increase 68% AVIVA no claims

Waited 40 minutes to talk to a rep. We’ve lived in the house for 10 years...same policy. The rep told us he had to review our file and that they were missing information, then asked the general questions asked upon purchase of initial insurance. He told he could get us a better price if we agreed to a credit check. When questioned, he said is that we know we will get paid. We have never missed a payment. He then reduced our premium by less than $200. Still leading us with a huge increase. He regurgitated speaking lines and could not explain the size of the increase except for fires or floods out west ...more speaking notes. We live in Windsor Ontario. We insured both cars, we have no mortgage, we are seniors, no accidents, locality discount. Aviva's start price online is 3100. Compared to an average of 1300 to 1400 at other places with no discounts. Someone needs to regulate Aviva.

Payment after insurance cancel

by Rodney on Mar 18, 2019
1 out of 5 stars

I had bundled auto and house insurance. I was sent an application for auto renewal and was denied, then told house insurance would be increased. I told them to cancel it also during the phone conversation. Then the monthly payments came out of my bank account. Today I talked to them again and was told I had to sign forms to get the policy cancelled and the payments would continue to come out. Before the conversation ended I was told they were cancelling the policy but wouldn't refund the funds they had taken because they couldn't cancel the insurance over the phone. Now, this is the 2nd time they cancelled it over the phone. I believe they are no just common thieves.

35% increase

Longtime RBC customers. Received my 2019 auto and home renewal March 1st. No claims, no accidents, no tickets. 35 % increase on home and 33% increase on auto. Called, the lady was very nice, but that is the new price. Absolutely disgusting.
