STAY AWAY FROM TD INSURANCE

by Wendy on Mar 30, 2015
1 out of 5 stars

RUN, don't walk away from TD Insurance (...and any of its versions)! If you think TD Insurance comes through for you and is in your corner, you're very much mistaken. I learned this the hard way. TD Insurance takes care of #1 - and that's NOT you. Heed this warning folks and I suggest warning your family, friends and coworkers about TD Insurance as well. One last bit of advice, before selecting an insurance company, be clear on the coverage amount you have if there's a water/sewer backup.

Worst Ever

I had my bank put a deposit onlyrics hold on my account for an unrelated issue thus a payment of mine didn't go through as I was unaware. I had the bank write TWO letters for me stating this as my policy was going to be cancelled for non payment. Customer service department stated as the bank did not specify that it was their error in the letter I got cancelled as I do t have 2000 dollars to pay the full policy (this is after the THIRD rate increase)! Problem is bank can't call it an error when it was on hold to protect me! TD is by far terrible!!! All state is much easier to deal with!

Scam

by ScamAwareness on Mar 9, 2015

My Policy was renewed without my consent and reminder sent to wrong address. Not a single call on the phone number listed. After reminders cancellation of the policy letter again sent to wrong address while I was out of country for work. I do not even have policy in hand for which they are looking for money till cancellation date. Now that I am back & called them for payingup the annual premium for the policy they claim that it has been cancelled so they are only looking for amount till cancellation.
There isn't any solution for policy sent to wrong address in a bid to correct the mistake for no fault of mine. I am surprised that they are behaving like Scam companies trying to collect money through unfair means or threaten us with balance due for their fault through Collections.

WORST INSURANCE!!!

The worst company I had to deal with. I had my roof leaking and I made a claim and they denied my claim and told me that I am not covered by the water dampening problem. When they renewed my insurance policy, they never sent me the policy coverage.
TD insurance only wants the money monthly from you but when it's time to claim, they will make every effort to refuse your claim.
Stay away from this company, they are a bunch of crooks…

Ridiculous annual increases

by kimspearman@hotmail.com on Feb 5, 2015
2 out of 5 stars

Similar to other stories I have seen on here, when I started out with TD home insurance in 2010 my policy was $437 for the year, which by 2014 had increased to $ 1485 for the year. As an example - from 2012 to 2013 it increased by $266, despite never having filed a claim and no changes in the policy.
I am almost certain I'll see yet another increase when I get the renewal papers sometime in the next month, but I am DONE! When comparing insurance with many of my neighbours we are paying $600 -$700 more annually. It is time to shop around, and say good bye to these thieves.

Claim nightmare

by Temporarily Homeless on Jan 25, 2015

Our policy may have been cheaper than Chubb but it was almost worthless too. The adjuster was slow to respond and, when she did, came up with a ridulously over-broad interpretation of one of the exclusions in the policy. In the meantime, my family was out of our home (for two months) and I had to hire a company to clean up my house. So, while I waited for TD to do the right thing, I signed up for almost a hundred grand of house repairs for damage caused by my neighbour. Luckily, I know an executive at TD, and he was able to have a TD lawyer look at the exclusion in my policy. Ultimately, we got our money but I found the experience unnecessarily stressful. It was bad enough to have to vacate our home; dealing with an unreasonable adjuster only made a bad experience worse.

Surprise increases are hidden

I am writing this while waiting on hold for the call centre - going on 12 minutes....
I am calling because TD has sent a generic letter 'thanking me for the business'. When I looked in detail I found a 27% increase with no change in coverage or anything else regarding my home. The increase is ridiculous, but what is worse is that the change is not even called out nor is there any rational for the change - just some generic babble about "many factors affect your insurance premium". The increase is ridiculous, but the fact that they try to sneak in the increases hoping you don't read the 3rd page of 10 font print makes it even worse!

a bunch of a-holes.

Been with TD for only two years, and my third year renewal came in, and another increase in rates and more limits on sewer backup, and the roof. I question them about this, and its due to recent floods in southern Alberta. I live in northern Alberta.

Two weeks before my third renewal, I cancelled. Now I have to wait 4-6 weeks to get my automatic bank withdraw reimbursed that they already took out for the new renewal.

Also, I've been able to get everything emailed to me in the past, but for some reason, i can't get my home experience claim letter from them, (which I havne't had a claim). It has to be mailed.

I wished I saw this site before I let TD be a bunch of a-holes to me, and screw me around waiting for my reimbursment and claim history for my new insurance company.

Now my new insurance company knows how TD screwed me.

From now on, I will do my best to inform people about how TD operates.

High Premium Minimum Coverage

by HomeOwner on Aug 16, 2014
1 out of 5 stars

TD Monnex has consistently raised their premiums but reduced the coverage at the same time.

I filed a claim for water damage caused by a burst pipe and was told someone will contact me the next day. It never happened. I called them repeatedly for a months to no avail. They only contacted me after I threatened to take them to the Ontario Ombudsman.

I stay with TD Monnex only because I was too busy to shop around for another insurance provider.

Using flood as an excuse

by Martyupnorth on Jul 31, 2014
2 out of 5 stars

I have purchased all my insurance from TD Meloche Monnex since 1994. During that time I have paid $55,762.86 in premiums and have never had a claim. Last year I was shocked when my home insurance premiums went up by 43.8%. I called to complain and was simply told that overall insurance costs were going up because of recent bad weather, notably the flood in Calgary. I didn’t flood, but I understand that insurance is a concept whereby several people pool their resources to spread the risk. I argued at the time that TD Meloche was obviously insuring too many high risk individuals. I naively accepted the increase in premiums.

Now a year has gone by, and I just found out they want to increase my premiums by an additional 24.2%. This is outrageous, especially considering the fact that TD Bank is making over $1 billion/quarter in profits.

I really didn’t feel like they appreciated my business so I decided to shop around. Wow, am I ever glad I did. Everyone I called was cheaper than TD Meloche. I’m sure you’ll argue that I’m getting less coverage. Let me assure you that I spent at least one hour discussing each quote with the prospective insurers, making sure I was getting equivalent coverage.

I decided to give my business to ScotiaLife Financial. My new policy is 41% cheaper than TD Meloche. How is that possible? I can only conclude that TD is trying to take advantage of people by using the flood as an excuse, or they’re simply incompetent and insuring too many high risk clients. Either way I don’t want to do business with them anymore.

TD has managed to totally piss-off a loyal customer of 20 years.
