I have just cancelled all policies with this company. I had four properties and a tenant package insured with this firm. I also had four automobiles insured with them. There was one claim on a property caused by a tenant who flooded the ceiling in the apartment below. This is the only claim in approx. five years of coverage. During this claim I had to do the emergency work myself as this occurred on a weekend. Once the adjuster did come he was very friendly and quite fine to deal with. However, the damaged caused to the apartment below consisted of a collapsed ceiling kitchen and floor damage which made the apartment unlivable. The contractor was unavailable for 3 months. I had to do the work myself. Next point is that my policy went from $1800.00 per year to almost $7000.00 . There should be a law against this as they are bandits.I am a retired Police Officer and many inmates are far more honest than these people. I cancelled my insurance and had to pay a substantial fee. The co-Operators insurance saved me over $3000.00 and were happy to get my business. This was on just one property. They also cancelled my cottage insurance and tried to charge me a fee to cancel although they were cancelling the policies as they would not insure the cottage without the home, they were charging over $3000.00 a year more for . Insurance companies are out of hand.Their profits are enormous. The consumers need some protection against this behaviour . Politicians talk the talk but really do nothing to help they are just a lip service for these white shirt thieves.
I have purchased all my insurance from TD Meloche Monnex since 1994. During that time I have paid $55,762.86 in premiums and have never had a claim. Last year I was shocked when my home insurance premiums went up by 43.8%. I called to complain and was simply told that overall insurance costs were going up because of recent bad weather, notably the flood in Calgary. I didn’t flood, but I understand that insurance is a concept whereby several people pool their resources to spread the risk. I argued at the time that TD Meloche was obviously insuring too many high risk individuals. I naively accepted the increase in premiums.
Now a year has gone by, and I just found out they want to increase my premiums by an additional 24.2%. This is outrageous, especially considering the fact that TD Bank is making over $1 billion/quarter in profits.
I really didn’t feel like they appreciated my business so I decided to shop around. Wow, am I ever glad I did. Everyone I called was cheaper than TD Meloche. I’m sure you’ll argue that I’m getting less coverage. Let me assure you that I spent at least one hour discussing each quote with the prospective insurers, making sure I was getting equivalent coverage.
I decided to give my business to ScotiaLife Financial. My new policy is 41% cheaper than TD Meloche. How is that possible? I can only conclude that TD is trying to take advantage of people by using the flood as an excuse, or they’re simply incompetent and insuring too many high risk clients. Either way I don’t want to do business with them anymore.
TD has managed to totally piss-off a loyal customer of 20 years.
Just calling to get a quote from them is bad enough. The quote they've given me is ridiculous and the customer service rep was no help at all. From all your claim review, I will definitely not be going to them when I can still decide on the provider.
Thanks
They have a strategy: over-the-top friendly customer reps are the nicest peope on earth when it comes to purchasing your home insruance. they give you what they make you believe is an amazing offer, and get you to sign an agreement with them.
That's where the good stuff ends.
If you get into an unfortunte situation where you have a legitimate case to claim, they will deny you citing numerous loop holes they have hidden in your terms of contract. If you actually read your contract, you'll see that the most common types of incidents are not covered, and you need to purchase them as add-ons on top of your premium.
I purchased the GOLD package thinking I'm covered in case of most types of incidents. Two weeks ago, due to a blockage in the main pipe, sewer water backed up in my kitchen sink, destroying kitchen cabinets, hardwood floors, and contaminating the entire apartment unit. The adjuster paid a ONE-MINUTE visit to my apartment, only to inform me that nothing is covered because the "sewer backaup from sink" is not covered under my polic, and that it is an endorsement that I had to purchase separately.
If you're with TD Insurance, call immediately and cancel your service. you're wasting your money and will never get anything from TD.
If you're considering TD Insurance, then turn around and run away. Their deal may seem delicious, but it's poisonous.
TD Insurance is THE WORST.
I shopped around for my rental insurance a fair bit, and TD provided the best value for money.
They extended their liability insurance to vacant which is better than the others I was quoted for and they have the highest deductible limit that I also was able to find by shopping around.
They do not make demands of me to be able to keep insurance on my property. An example is replace your furnace it's too old for us to insure you as my last company told me.
Absolutely a waste of time and very rude. Explained the house insurance we had ended on the 17th of the month, and they set the new insurance with them to start on the 20th, leaving a 3-day gap. Once they realized they made an error they cancelled the insurance policy citing a breach of internal policy, never taking accountability for the mistake they made.
Everything is fine until you have a claim. Unable to speak to anyone, no follow-ups, running after the money they owe us, ghosting us after complaints and outright lying to us that they did not receive documents from a month ago. Overall very stressful and frustrating to say the least. We have been good clients for over 10 years but will never go back. Still waiting on our claim though…
I made a claim in April 2016 due to a windstorm blowing shingles off of our home, and were given to ClaimsPro through TD. We had a roofing company come and quote the damage, but the claim was "closed" due to the damage being less then our deductible. Come July our insurance renewed and our monthly payment went up $50 a month, when I called to ask why I was given to a ton of different people before finding out over a month later that they were claiming the claim under our name because they had to pay the roofing company to come quote the damage as well as ClaimPro for dealing with our claim. My overall experience was horrible, I never talked to the same person twice and was never called back. Do not go through this company, I switched to Statefarm and have had an amazing experience with them so far. I am paying almost $200 less a month for car and house insurance.
