Doubled after hail storm I DIDN'T cause. Got hail damage that I never caused but after the claim, my insurance doubled. No warnings, just typical insurance scams.
I received a pamphlet in the mail connected to my credit union. It gave me the web address for a no-obligation quote, on the site there are choices of how to get your (approximate) quote, phone and e-mail. When I clicked e-mail nothing happened, then I realized nowhere on the questionnaire doc does it ask for an e-mail address or phone # so how could they possibly give a quote that way. One must phone them. I e-mailed them and asked why this was. I received a reply saying that "there was an issue on our website. Since we cannot quote via email please give us a call @(phone #'s)."
This is of course a well-known tactic, but it is deceitful & poor excuse. I replied to FIX the website then. I'll stay with my current insurance provider thanks.
I tried to call customer service for the only claim in 4 years of paying for service and met with over 20 minutes of waiting only for the call to be disconnected. As a young first-time homeowner, this was a very upsetting experience and I would not recommend this company to anyone looking for insurance.
Rates keep rising along with deductibles ( they don't tell you and try to hide them on back of pages). When you call you get put on hold till you give up and hang up.
I spent a month in the hospital and was out of work for 6 months after suffering seizures. I had Cumis coverage for a loan. The first call seemed to go well, after that it was nothing but problems. They made me jump through unnecessary hoops to waste time so they didn’t have to cover my payments. By the time I was finally approved, I was a month in arrears that they refused to cover. After that every time they paid me it was 2 1/2 weeks past the date my payment was due forcing me to float the payment. Every month they were late paying, I had to call them every month and demand payment and of course, they still took their monthly fee from my account every month. The worst time of my life made much worse by these crooks! Heartless, money grabbing narcissists! Never go with Cumis!
After 35 years, and no claims, CUMIS underwriting cancelled our home insurance policy. Their reason disclosed was that it is their prerogative to assess risk and yank a policy at their discretion. All requests to me for information and communication was adhered to. I was even reassured that paying for a year ahead was the way to go. Our circumstance was unique in that the house was vacated and being renovated for anticipated sale. Is this fair? How would you feel if your situation changed? Would you feel safe and reassured knowing CUMIS will cancel a policy within a month at their discretion? Go with another company who will at least discuss and consider your life challenges - and support you when you most need them.
We were paying 460.00 a month and my husband gets diagnosed with cancer and stage 4 at the time of diagnosis, so we put in for accelerated life claim on the mortgage insurance. So, after 7 months of waiting, I got the call that we were denied. I was an RN for 20 years and NONE of the things they claim my husband "lied" about on the initial application meant anything to why he had terminal cancer. I reassured him and cried with him for 7 weeks before he passed away. I hired lawyers and now I am still fighting 29 months later. Do not have a non medically trained person call an RN with so-called lab values/ medical issues and argue facts because you are NOT trained and I am. Defamation of character really is their game and I tell you, I am NOT stopping till this is settled and I get post-claim underwriting banned in this province... It is already illegal in most of the USA and in the province of Alberta. No terminal patient should EVER have to die crying worried that his wife will be unable to afford the home that he and I both loved and that he passed away in. I HATE what Cumis did to my husband and I can not wait for the day that I can face them in a meeting room and let them know just what they did to him.
I always thought CUMIS was a good company. since they were pleasant and quick to give quotes. I even referred a few people to them UNTIL I had a claim. I was with this company for 15 years and never had a claim, &paid my premiums on time. Our home got hit by lightning and it essentially fried every electronic item in my house; all TVs, computers, hot tub, kitchen appliances and split a 50 foot maple tree down the middle. The first encounter with them was with a local subcontracted adjuster who was snide, condescending and rude. They would not return phone calls, delayed approving work for months, of to be done and directed us to their "own/preferred" companies. They low balled us on every item and we were constantly having to show them like items that cost more. It is a year later and we are still waiting to get approvals for electrical work. The claim is open for 2 years yet they have sent a cheque and deemed the claim closed. Any calls to the mother ship (CUMIS) is dealth with rude people who ask why we are calling them? They are a nightmare to deal with. Buyer beware!!!!
I placed a claim for storm damage to our home in rural Manitoba. 6 weeks passed and CUMIS will not return calls, not answer phones, and will sometimes return an email. Still waiting for a roofer to come out and look at the home. They don’t believe in private adjusters for whatever reason. I’ve been told by a contractor friend that I have extensive hail damage to our roof, eaves troughs, some on siding, and misc flashing. At a minimum get someone out to provide an estimate of damages so that I can protect my property going forward from additional damage. I’ve been with this company for over 15 years on two homeowner properties and have never had a claim. Definitely would not recommend this company to anyone. Likely paid them $30+K in fees over that period. Brutal service. After I get a resolution with my first claim I shall find another company to deal with. Definitely not recommended.
