I’ve been a customer for 5 years and never made a claim. Peace Hills Insurance (PHI) denied my claim for water damage in my basement. I was surprised to learn that groundwater from extreme rainfall is not covered under their “Water Plus” package. Water Plus is marketed as a “comprehensive water damage protection package”. However, surface water infiltration IS covered, and in fact, groundwater damage is covered as long as there is some surface water as well (seems like they’re splitting hairs here). Anyway, after my adjuster decided that 100% of the damage was caused by groundwater PHI denied my claim. I hired an independent inspector to dig through my walls for a second opinion which included actually going behind wall coverings (something the PHI adjuster did NOT do). This inspection produced strong evidence of surface water penetration in several locations (moisture meter showed the water was still present!). I spoke with a manager at PHI and informed him of this new evidence. He told me that PHI was unlikely to change positions even if I submitted this new report. He then questioned the competence of my independent, third-party inspector. I told him that his inspector could go to my house right now and see for himself, but the supervisor just continued to be unhelpful and refused to listen to my reasonable suggestions. Do not use Peace Hills Insurance, unless you like fighting email/telephone battles for days on end. The worst part, the representative who was managing my claim still has not contacted me despite numerous calls and emails. Do yourself a favour, avoid doing any business with PHI. Instead, donate your money to a good cause.
Brutal. I’ve been paying $180 a month (about $50 more than other recent quotes) for nearly ten years and they wouldn’t pay out my claim. When I told them I would switch insurers I was told “that’s my right”; they got enough money from me, they’ll get more from the next one. Don’t let that one be you.
Canadians pay, on average, approximately $20 per month in tenants insurance. Do you rent or plan to rent a property and want to reduce insurance costs? We will help you get a cheap tenant insurance quote today.
The worst most vindictive company I have ever dealt with! We called them we had water leaking in our basement. They said to call a plumber, ” but we won’t pay for it”! My husband said that he has to break through the wall first to see where this leaking. They said - "We won’t pay for the drywall!" This is with replacement cost? We ended up fixing everything ourselves! Thank God we had the money.
I have cancelled insurance more than a month ago.
No phone call, e-mail and refund.
This company is glad to take your payments but unlikely will honour your policy if you make a claim. The claims adjuster will make some kind of damage estimate and that is all you will ever hear from them. No one will ever process your claim. You are done and Peace Hills is done with you. Be sure to let the Insurance Consumer Complaints Alberta.ca know what they did to you.
Run away. Been with them for 20+ years. Found out I've been overpaying by a factor of 3.
Do the math.
Run. Away.
I can tell by the number of comments that it's generally understood this company exists "solely" for the shareholder's profit. The actual business of writing policies is for creative exercise only. The term "sold a bill of goods" is often referred to as having been "taken" by a con artist. I'd call their policies "a bill of goods". Having said that I'll try to persuade one more person not to deal with this company. Had hail claim on house, contractor confirmed the damage but they denied the claim. The damage was clear. I guess all insurance companies are trying to avoid paying claims but I'm switching to another company on principle. The principle is my self-respect, I'd like to keep some. I could write a long story but you wouldn't believe me or you'd think I was exaggerating for effect. Do yourself a favour. Buy insurance somewhere else. All the scary things you hear about insurance companies wrapped up into one company.
I have had 9 rental properties insured with Peace Hills for 10 years. We just had a fire last year and Peace Hills immediately denied the coverage based on a technicality in the contract we had with them. It was an awful experience and we ended up losing a property and had to sell another one to cover the loss. We couldn't even talk to anyone at Peace Hills as they wouldn't return calls and kept referring to 'future liability' if they were to engage in discussions about our claim. We recently switched insurance companies and got premiums 30% cheaper. Whatever you do, avoid this company if you can. Their website is all about how they are "a unique insurance company that truly cares" and I assure you that is just bait to get your business. They are a great company when you are paying them premiums and a horrible company when you need them.
My mother-in-law passed away, one representative told me no worries, let me know when probate is complete and we can put a new policy in your name. My mother-in-law was insured through
this company for over 20 years, never had a claim, never late on a payment. They cancelled the insurance as soon as probate was finalized, left us high and dry with no coverage scrambling to get coverage for a vacant house which apparently is difficult. Who knew? There is a word for these guys and I wouldn't go through them if they were the last company available. PS. Their rates... way higher than everyone else we checked with!
Beware of this insurance company (Peace Hills Insurance) I made a claim for lost jewelry which I paid extra and I even submitted an appraisal. They let me purchase insurance for my jewelry but the time comes that I lost it, they decline my claims. Not worth your hard-earned money to get this insurance company. They will just keep on collecting your money knowing you are covered, but if something happens and you need to make a claim, they will deny. Beware and choose to get another insurance company instead.
