They are firm but treat you fair

I have had a loss and this company took good care of me during the process.
They are firm and straight to the point.
I am very happy with how the claims process went and do recommend this company.

The worst experience with this insurance

by Carlos on Sep 1, 2022
1 out of 5 stars

I had a claim and my insurance is with them. As an insurance company, they should help the client, but they do not help at all. First, they say that they will help but after the claim, they say no. I used my credit card while they made the repairs in my apartment. I had hotel and lodging expenses. I tried not to incur greater expenses and even so they did not return anything to me for the insurance. If you are looking for some type of insurance, do not use this insurance! They will not help you when you need it.

Horrible customer service.

After 10+ years with them 6+ with auto insurance, and business insurance for 4-5 years through them, I will never recommend, nor use them again. A couple of years ago I should've cancelled then my wife got into an accident, at first they were nice but, when the other driver claimed she was at fault the Cooperators underwriter or whatever they're called (The one who deals with accident payouts and such) treated her terrible, not returning calls, being mean in tone on the phone when we got through. Finally, I went and took pictures to prove that she (Wife) did have the right of way in the roundabout due to signage, even the police officer said if there were laws for roundabouts he would've charged the other driver (not sure if Ontario finally put in some laws but, at that time the officer said there are no laws in the highway traffic act for roundabouts) after sending them that information they again started being nice. Another issue is, I did have a speeding ticket 8+ years ago, and they (Insurance) told me when it is removed I'm sure they said it takes four years to come off, I'll notice a decrease on my rates, well that wasn't true, the ticket now been off my file for three-four years, yet they kept on rising our insurance rates every renewal making excuses each time, (higher claims across Canada, all insurance rates raised etc.) This year 2022 was the last draw as they wanted $188 for car insurance and over $34 for rental insurance which would be over $200.00 a month. I started calling around and found $122 a month (car) and $38 a month for rental both with higher payouts and lower deductibles from another insurer. Which saves me over $480 a year. When asked why my insurance is very cheap with them they told me it's because of our good driving history. Yet Cooperators keep rising my rates which is mind-boggling. I cancelled with Cooperators right away stating to be cancelled Aug 1st. 2022 and I asked about cancellation fees since I was so close to my insurance renewal the lady at Cooperators told me they will only charge me $40 something on my credit card, for the remainder of the time. A few days ago I noticed 40ish from them taken off my credit card, okay last payment... Well, yesterday I noticed $176 taken... They turned around and charged me $176 which I didn't agree too, and when I called I got hung up on because I told her straight out they were gorging me in pricing over the years. Talking to the fellow at the call center (Who was 1000% more respectful and understanding) it seems they didn't put the correct date in for cancellation as it was supposed to be Aug 1st. The woman from Jennifer's office right out refused to call me back and emailed me trying to say there are confirmation of an August 17 2022 cancellation, which isn't correct as my new policy starts Aug 1st with another insurer and I requested Aug 1st cancellation. Why would I be an idiot and pay two insurance companies? I also didn't care about a few weeks cancellation fee as that is my renewal date. Every time I call this office they transfer me to the call center, they can't deal with auto, and they don't put in the information correctly, Jennifer shouldn't be an owner as she or her staff misses things up I noticed in another review on Google the same concern of missing things up, she seems to never be in the office, her staff refuses to transfer me to her, they refuse to acknowledge when they're in the wrong like in this situation. One cluster fudge after another with this insurance company. Look around there are much cheaper insurance companies out there, this insurance company is like a pyramid scheme.

I’ve been with them for 15 years.
Told them I’m adding a basement apartment and getting it approved by the town.
The customer service person was rude and obnoxious. I was lectured about regulations and talked to like a 10 years old child.
Beware! They threaten you and look for ways to cancel you and they treat you like you are a horrible human and act like you are a criminal.
I was completely honest and upfront in giving them the heads up on the change of use in my house.
Made no difference. They wouldn’t wait for the two-month process. Instead, they dropped me.
I was good enough to give them money for years until I posed a “risk” then I was given two days to find another insurance company.
Totally unprofessional, no loyalty whatsoever!
I was told to get the apartment done and then come back and apply again once it’s all finished.
Needless to say, I’m removing my auto policy.
They want to keep my auto but now I’m concerned they would keep their word and cover me if God forbid I were to have an accident.
Don’t trust them!

Lacking claim service and knowledge - water damage

by Dave Spectre on Jun 14, 2022
1 out of 5 stars

Had a flood in November. It's now June and they just started repairs and just paid my contents loss. My first adjuster had no idea what they were doing. Their 1st onsite restoration company is no better. It takes weeks to get a response by phone or email from either of them. Most of the questions I have are just ignored. Have to ask over and over up to 5 or 6 times to get any response weeks later. It took over 40 days to get a response from the adjuster in the beginning after I asked what was happening as no one was returning my calls/emails. I once was a residential adjuster with cooperators 20 years ago and the service I have received in 2021-2022 is absolutely abysmal. I'm quite shocked by the low service levels. If I could rate zero stars I would.

Horrendous Customer Service

by Calgaryrealtor on Mar 16, 2022
1 out of 5 stars

I am a Realtor in the middle of doing a home sale with a home claim on the house being sold. I represent the buyers in the purchase and needed to get information on how we go about protecting my clients when the property transfers ownership and the work has not been completed yet. I have been provided full disclosure from the seller client who holds the policy and been requested by then to contact Co-operators in regards to just the process we need to carry out in this situation. I have a law background and knew there may be privacy issues. The customer service representative I spoke to was immediately extremely rude, curt, short, and just plain unhelpful. I explained to her I know there are privacy issues and that is fine but could she explain in process terms unrelated to the specific policy the steps we need to take. She became more rude and unhelpful and refused to discuss anything with me. She kept saying she could not talk to me about the file, which I kept explaining I was fine not speaking in specifics of the file, perhaps just a hypothetical so that I could go back to my clients with what we needed for assurances for them, and she just did not help. Horrendous customer service. I would NEVER recommend a client to this company for home insurance, and I in a position to guide clients on that issue. It was a terrible experience and ruined my day. How could someone in that role be in that role if they are just a miserable human and cannot deal well with others? Horrible representation for your company.

Home Inspection

by Bindy on Feb 17, 2022
1 out of 5 stars

Cooperators sent in an independent contractor to conduct a house inspection. One month after this was completed I received an email from my agent with a list of six recommendations. These included a fire extinguisher and several very minor repairs they wanted to be done. The only problem was they gave no indication these had to be done in one month. At the end of January, I was informed that if I didn’t have it all done by Feb 28 they weren’t going to renew my insurance due on March 1. Needless to say, I’m not with Cooperators anymore and am paying less. Don’t go with these people.

Home insurance renewal quote

by Disgruntled past client on Feb 12, 2022
1.5 out of 5 stars

Am in the Cheticamp area. Had been with Cooperators insurance for years and paid about $1,400. When I was quoted the renewal this past September they quoted me $4700! To say I was shocked would be an understatement! Firstly, I wasn't living in the home the other years, was here seasonally. I also upgraded my fuses to a breaker, so my quote should have actually gone down! I know of people here who are paying $1,200-1,500 per year and actually have Airbnb running from their homes and yes the insurer knows. I was beyond disgusted. The person who had to call me to give me the news about this high quote was actually embarrassed. In any case, think it was deplorable. Obviously, I am with another company now.

Are you a condo unit tenant? Remember that neither your condominium corporations' policy nor your landlord's insurance policy protects you as a tenant (3rd part liability, contents, etc.). If you do not have your own insurance policy, get your condominium insurance quote today.

What the?

Was with them for 8 years, last year I paid $1200 for the year. When it came to renewing in September I was more than shocked when told my yearly rate had gone up to $4700! I've never had a claim AND had upgraded from fuses to breakers, new hot water heater, plus… I was living away before, so it was seasonal moved back in July for good. The person who called me to tell me the nee rate apologized profusely and said even she was shocked. I questioned it to the top guy there and he blamed Covid for rising prices!😵‍💫..meanwhile a friend who lives in the same area, much older house, lives away and airbnbs it paying 1100. In any case, I was not only shocked but furious. I moved on to another provider and am happy.
