Lost my trust

by Sk0ly on Apr 30, 2019
3.5 out of 5 stars

I have been with SquareOne for the last four years. Last year, when I went from a rental to a condo, they readjusted my policy for the new place. The cost was almost double which I thought just made sense given that there are additional items to insure when it came to a condo (~$95/m).

Recently, my policy is up for renewal again so I started doing some shopping. Sonnet gave me a quote of ~$50. I thought there was something wrong so I called Sonnet. They walked me through the comparison and the coverage was the same. After that, I called SquareOne to complain and they lowered my policy $30 to $65 the same day. Normally I would be happy about this but I found it very strange they were able to do that so quickly. Tells me they were gouging me. I will likely be moving onto Sonnet.

Only good to take your money

The price is increased year after year so even if you get a better quote initially you'll end up paying way more (they refer to this as "standard practice"). The policy changes yearly as well and of course for the worst for you.

All of the fake reviews they have here speak volume how badly they need to cover up for their service.

Bad Choice but deceiving

We have 6 ft of snow in North Bay On. The roof leaked and they brought in a Contractor claiming I am covered. The estimate was 20,071.38 but they can not fix my home for 4 months. Offered me cash of 9,456.65. I said: bring in the construction crew, and they responded by saying: you are no longer covered. Please do not be fooled by their prices. If You put in a claim, pay 1,000.00 and then find out there is another 30% depreciation clause. Worst of the worst. I spoke to the owner and he does not care about his customers. I intend to make this a mission of injustice.

Good claim experience

The unit below mine reported water leak from above to the strata. Strata claimed it's caused by my dishwasher but didn't provide concrete evidence. I contacted SquareOne and they quickly assigned an independent adjuster helping me dealing with strata and the restoration company hired by strata. Although the root cause is indeed found to be my dishwasher, the adjuster has done a great job to prevent strata from overcharging me for the repair cost. In the end, the cost is just slightly above my insurance deductible and I gladly footed the whole bill to avoid premium raise.

Are you a condo unit tenant? Remember that neither your condominium corporations' policy nor your landlord's insurance policy protects you as a tenant (3rd part liability, contents, etc.). If you do not have your own insurance policy, get your condominium insurance quote today.

Go elsewhere for your insurance needs.
After a claim, they cancelled my coverage for no reason.

Slow frustrating claim

by NorthernLad on Jan 3, 2019

My experience with this insurer was really good when the policy was being designed and sold. It’s easy to customize the policy and make changes using the online system. At claim time it was not so great. The company uses independent local adjusters. For our fairly small and straightforward claim following a break in the process from claim to payout took months. When I spoke with the insurer on the phone they just referred me back to the adjuster. The adjuster meanwhile just told me they had submitted the claim. It became very frustrating as nobody could explain what was causing the delay. They got there in the end but it was a poor experience.

Bad experience

I learned the hard way that less is not more. I was sold a policy by their staff by a woman who seemed to lack little knowledge on insurance in general. She failed to fully describe in detail what improvements meant. What it really meant was we won't cover anything in your condo that isn't your contents. I should have listened to my friends when they laughed at who I was insured with

DO NOT GO TO THEM!!!

After being insured with them for years, they called me out of the blue and said they cannot cover me any longer because of the type of property I have. I have always at every renewal been upfront about exactly what type of property I have. They then act like they're being SO nice (I call this arrogance) that they're giving me 60 days to find coverage elsewhere. Do they not understand this is their error?

Don't bother if you prefer to have insurance that is reliable and won't throw you to the curb if they make a mistake.
