Absolutely worst company!

by Southern Albertan on Apr 22, 2021
1 out of 5 stars

Took nearly 3 years to repair our house for a hail claim. Over 20 voicemails were sent and 20 emails with no response back. Even the trades they sent, couldn't get their own quotes approved, and therefore gave up and left us. The worst experience ever. Way more than other companies too. Even after we cancelled, they still tried to bill us again. When you do get through on the phone, they will transfer you to various departments, and play dumb with you. I called them out and said this and they had no professional response. They rely on annoying the customer to the point where you get so frustrated that you just hang up, and therefore they still get paid. I'm also building a case with the BBB. This company has to get shut down. How it even runs like this is beyond crazy! I hope Karma crushes everyone in this company. Not worth the stress they intentionally put on their clients. Total fraud!

Loyalty is of no interest.

I have been a client of Statefarm/Desjardins for 29 years, with multiple policies. My immediate and extended family has also been extremely loyal. Recently my house was damaged in the hail storm that hit Calgary on June 13th, 2020. The damage was significant, so I made a claim. I have always felt comfortable I was covered by Desjardins if I ever had a problem since the company statement is "helping clients is their top priority". I am currently discussing my claim and have been informed they plan to patch my house repairs with a siding product that doesn't match the current siding on my house, also this is not the correct way to make the repairs as there is damage that is unseen or known about. I understand that insurance is to cover my loss, and not to come out ahead, but with this repair, my house will decrease in value as the repair is amature and noticeably different from the existing materials. The disputed value of the repairs (per my contractor) of doing the patch job and the correct and appropriate repair is approx. $5000.00. This is basically the value of my Loyalty to Desjardins. It is the difference of a loyal client for many years or a disgruntled client with questions that the same loyalty is returned. I simply want the repairs on my claim to be done professionally and correctly. As of this review, if you are looking for home insurance Desjardins is not in your best interest. Loyalty is of no interest.

I got service is overwhelmed, not ready to handle hail and storm damages on 13 June in NE Calgary. Fully unprepared. No communication no coordination! Slow and slow... Why are you not ready? The answer is oh there are large amounts of claims and we can't help! Wish I have a different provider!

Are you a condo unit tenant? Remember that neither your condominium corporations' policy nor your landlord's insurance policy protects you as a tenant (3rd part liability, contents, etc.). If you do not have your own insurance policy, get your condominium insurance quote today.

Roof damage due to Hail

by jrsiever on Jan 8, 2016

I am having the same issue with hail damage on my roof from Aug 2014. The claim adjuster has refused to replace the entire roof and is stating that only the portion of the roof that was damaged from the hail will be covered. I have had 5 different roofing companies tell me that the shingles are not made any more and are impossible to match. And the funny thing is, is that the part they want to replace has less damage then the portion of roof that is in worse condition. Same with my eaves trough. The lines will not match and the colour will be different. Just ridiculous. All 5 roofing companies have never heard of only replacing 1/2 a roof if the product is discontinued. I'm at the point now where I am going to have to talk to a manager and after that my lawyer. Desjardin Insurance definitely does not care about the customer.

Roof damage due to hailstorm

by Frustrating..... on May 19, 2015

The roof of my residence was damaged partially due to a hailstorm in August 2014. When I sent in a claim, at first, the claim was rejected saying that the damage was not due to hail. I requested for a second inspection when the claim was approved, although not for a full replacement of the roof. How can someone replace only a portion of the roof? Isn't this ridiculous? I tried following up only with cold responses.

I wouldn't recommend anyone to go with this insurance company

Poor Customer Service

Trying to settle hail claim. The roof was replaced with minor issues. Took a while for the adjuster to approve the quote claiming doubling up of charges. Was frustrating, but got resolved. Our current siding has been discontinued, and we are fighting to get Desjardins to replace the siding on the entire house. We have significant damage on one side and very minor damage on two sides. They feel that the wording, “direct damage only” in the fine print protects them from having to replace all the siding. According to the adjuster, my options are to pay out of pocket to replace the siding on the undamaged areas or have a house with mismatched siding!! Unbelievable!! I’m still waiting to hear from the management team to see if this can be resolved appropriately. First time I have ever heard of an insurance company taking this position! Really wish I had chosen differently! Two close friends in the area have their homes back to the condition it was in prior to the hail damage. Both had to get a full siding replacement because the colour was discontinued. Both had insurance companies that took care of it for them hassle-free.
