Liars, thieves

by NeilB on Sep 16, 2020

I'm going to exclude the hours of wait times and their horrible phone services. The long-short of it is that Desjardins charged my credit card without giving me a proper warning. When I called them up to get these charges dropped, I asked them why didn't they email me prior to charging me. They told me while they didn't email, they sent out a letter. A letter which I never received. I asked them to cancel the service and requested that they drop the penalty for cancellation because I never received any letter and they failed to send me an email. They said they would get back to me. A week later they call me up to say they're going to continue with the penalty because - surprise, surprise - NOW they say an email was sent out. I checked my inboxes (all emails I receive are shared through multiple accounts), I checked my SPAM inbox, and there is no proof they sent anything out. In that week they decided to change the information in my file to say they did send out an email just so they could charge me. There's no proof an email was sent out, and they changed their story to me. Just so they could fine me. I presented this argument to the person calling, and she was adamant. She could not provide proof anything was sent out, and refused to even acknowledge that it was strange that only a week ago they admitted they hadn't sent out an email. Because they control the information, they could basically put any lie into their files to support their decisions. They are liars. They are thieves.

BEWARE OF DESJARDINS

by NORTH on Feb 22, 2020
2 out of 5 stars

I don’t post very often, but I’m super pissed! Desjardins recently advised us that they would not be insuring our new house build anymore because IT IS TAKING TOO LONG… It is a larger custom home that has taken 2 years so far, with 5 months more to go… Not unreasonable for the size of this project… This has put me into a real predicament, as insurance companies generally will not insure residential properties mid-construction, only at the beginning… We found one that will, but at a crazy premium of $30,000 per year vs $5,580 that we were paying Desjardin since the beginning… and we have no choice but to do it… At no point did Desjardins ever advise us that there was a time limit to the policy until they sent us a notice of non-renewal… and when we ask them why we were not told this at the beginning of the policy, no one responds… Where is the time limit written in our policy? No one responds… There seems to be no consumer protection against shady insurance companies who pull stunts like this… There have been no problems on the job site, no accidents, no claims, no financial issues, no nothing... We have always paid our bills on time... We have been, for all intensive purposes, the perfect customer... I’m cancelling any remaining policies with them, and I hope others will too. As there is no consumer protection (other than auto), they can cancel your policy just like that too… This is not acceptable!

RRSP withdrawal

by Frank on Oct 23, 2019
1.5 out of 5 stars

I had arranged to withdrawal some of my RRSPs & was told it would be deposited in my account in two to three working days. After a week I called to find out where my money was & was told they made an error. A week later I received a call saying my money would be in my account the next day or the day after for sure. Well, that was a week ago & I still do not have MY money. Don't know when or if I will ever see my money. Terrible company to deal with. Stay away from them!

Shady and Irresponsible

by A.L. on Jun 12, 2019
1.5 out of 5 stars

Have been charged twice within 1 month after my 1 year Insurance expired. I moved out of the city, so had no need to renew it. First time got charged 34$, the bank declined for no funds, and of course I got charged overdraft. I called immediately to clarify the issue, and the assistant told me I will be called back during the week from agent office. No one ever called. Then Desjardins charged me again 69$ a week later. I called again to the office asking why am I being charged. The assistant X (she never managed to pronounce her name clearly) on the phone tells me it is the law them to charge after the contract expires. No one ever took care from Desjardins to explain me of such law where they can still charge me even though on the contract is stated that I agreed for 1 year of preauthorized withdrawals. After being told several more times that I'll be called back on the issue, and never have the call returned, I kept calling myself until they presented me with their explanation, and that they will only refund me 26$ and agreed to cancel my contract. Customer Service experience : They keep talking, never give me a chance to speak, and when I speak they interrupt me. I have a very bad after taste. Will never book any insurance with Desjardins again. Strongly recommend everyone to stay away from them and find another company that has better communication with their customers.

Horrible customer service...

Had little water damage in one section of my basement caused by a "recalled" toilet that came with my new house. It took Desjardins well over a month before anyone came to inspect and 3 months before repairs...and this was a small insurance claim. The adjuster was rude over the phone, she tried to be humorous but was more sarcastic than helpful. Tried to nickel and dime repairs that were imminent caused by this faulty manufactured toilet. Had never filed a house claim in 34 years. Had to contact her Director for fairness. Filed one car insurance claim "for my brand new car" that a neighbour's daughter backed into when she neglected to look when backing out of her laneway - new driver. Desjardins tried to nickel and dime that claim as well. An insurance adjuster was rude, sarcastic, and had a laissez-faire attitude. Some of their bank tellers are unwelcoming at times. Time to drop Desjardins! Stay away.

Desjardins "BAD FAITH"

by chris on Sep 15, 2018
1 out of 5 stars

Had a home fire in April 2018. We are now in Sept 2018. Desjardins asked for 2 quotes, they got them. They asked for the content list, they got that too. They will only allow $55.00 a day for my husband, myself and our pet for an additional living cost. We cannot live in our home. That's a joke by itself. We pay for this coverage, but they sure do take the monthly payment every month. They have been giving us the runaround from day one. They say they are going to pay, but they will only pay what their "preferred contractor" says the job will cost. Their better known preferred contractor are known as FRIENDLY CONTRACTORS, they measure your home room by room, go back to the office and put all measurements in a computer software and voila - there is their lowball quote and remember, not everything is included in the lowball quote. Why? Because they work very closely with Desjardins Insurance and what they don't put on the quote so we can't see is the actual cost of replacement. It's a SCAM to make people hire the preferred contractor, then the contractor adds all the repairs that were not shown on the quote and the Insurance happily pays the FRIENDLY Contractor. Yet they will not pay your preferred contractor who knows everything there is to know about repairing your home, a computer can't repair your home. DO NOT believe a word these people tell you its all a lie. They don't want to pay. Stay clear of Desjardins Insurance, they are your worst nightmare

Go somewhere else

I have been satisfied with my auto insurance but recently I had to place home insurance on two homes. I had to cancel my policy after two months of payments. I basically was forced into selling them. The insurance was 2100 for the year, which I was fine with. State Farm/Desjardins is now charging me 900 to get out of the policy after the two payments of 170. This is wrong. I would recommend you go elsewhere to get home insurance.

I didn't research them first

Thought being a large company, they'd be professional. I'm completely embarassed to have fallen for the salespersons' lies. Desjardins are really REALLY nice to you when you call for quotes. Then they know how to get the pre-authorization signed. Then that's it folks. They don't know how to do anything else. I couldn't even get a policy for a year. They kept saying "well if you want to know something, we can tell you". Refusing to give a policy then when we had an issue to discuss, even got yelled at by John A., who refused to let me speak to anyone.
I even tried writing the customer care section and no response. You pay, they take, and that's it. No other relationship will ever occur with Desjardins.

Roof damage due to hailstorm

by Frustrating..... on May 19, 2015
1 out of 5 stars

The roof of my residence was damaged partially due to a hailstorm in August 2014. When I sent in a claim, at first, the claim was rejected saying that the damage was not due to hail. I requested for a second inspection when the claim was approved, although not for a full replacement of the roof. How can someone replace only a portion of the roof? Isn't this ridiculous? I tried following up only with cold responses.

I wouldn't recommend anyone to go with this insurance company

Desjardins Nightmare

by Dissatisfied Customer on Oct 5, 2014
1 out of 5 stars

I live in Gatineau, Quebec. I have insurance for my condo and when I discovered water coming up through the floor one evening, I was alarmed and took steps to deal with the situation. That included calling Desjardins the next day. The agent on the phone did not start a file so when I made a subsequent phone call the next agent was asking me why I didn't call sooner. After much hassle and delay (It has now been one week since my emergency) they have just e-mailed me and said they will not provide any coverage whatsoever to my damaged floors and furniture. Now I have to hire a lawyer to sue for damages. Is this what Desjardins stands for? Not being there when you need them? I suggest anybody considering this insurance company think twice. Also, put money aside for lawyers because you will have to sue for Desjardins to do what they say they do.
