FRAUDULENT

by Braydon on Mar 6, 2022
1 out of 5 stars

Desjardin is a fraudulent company. They do anything to get out of paying for insurance claims. House had pipes burst and they won't pay for damages because they said we weren't home. So even though insurance has been faithfully paid every month, it's only good if we're home if damages occur? How absolutely absurd and fraudulent is that ESPECIALLY since we upgraded our insurance policy.

Very happy

by Francine in Toronto on Feb 14, 2022
5 out of 5 stars

I am a single senior who suffered a bad flood in September from my second-floor laundry. I was absolutely beside myself when I called Desjardin in a panic. The first two ladies I spoke with were so reassuring and understanding, I felt immediate relief. Within two hours of my call, a team arrived to clean up, take down damaged ceilings, check my electrics, and install hot air blowers to dry out the house. I had been with Desjardins for only two years. Before that, I had 23 years of trouble with another insurer, who never allowed a claim, argued about who lived with me, and charged a lot more every year. Thanks to Dejardins, my little house was fixed quickly, and my latest annual invoice is still less than the previous insurer had. I'm one happy old lady. Nothing but good things to say about Desjardin's home insurance.

2 months to say I’m not covered.

by Edmonton Alberta on Dec 1, 2021
1 out of 5 stars

Looks like Desjardins is used to these reviews now. Look at them all. Honestly don’t use Desjardins for home/auto insurance especially if you’re a landlord and especially if you operate a short-term rental. I filed a claim in early Oct 2021 for water damage from the condo on the floor above my rental. The salesman assured me I was covered for Short Term Rental. I had 3 properties and a vehicle insured with him. What he didn’t say was I’m only covered for bookings that I had to cancel due to flood and repairs which in the STR world isn’t many since the majority of bookings come 3-5 days before check-in. It took him and the claims agent 2 months to tell me all that while my place sat empty and inhabitable. They cost me 2 months of rental income. An insurance company that’s supposed to prevent me from losing money actually made me lose more money by being insured. Let that sink in.

Households in Alberta pay, on average, approximately $60/month in homeowners’ insurance costs. We can help to push these costs even further down. Get a house insurance quote today to start saving today. Rates start at $20/month.

Damage never repaired

by Sarah Klassen on Nov 22, 2021
1.3 out of 5 stars

Home siding/roof damage September 2021. Now November 2021, no word on when we are getting it repaired yet. Very disappointed on how long it's been dragged out.
The customer service folks are polite, but the insurance its self represents a scam to me so far.

Worse experience ever!

by Vanessa on Oct 10, 2021

The Company is hiring the most incompetent Contractors, I would never bring them into my home if I needed a job done.
They didn’t follow safety codes (or face-covering in my home), damaged more than fixed and lied about everything (even though I have video footage). I hope no one has to go through this!

Too bad. My house was damaged two months ago. Not even finish paper estimate now!
No reply from advisor. When I want to talk to the manager rejected.

Are you a condo unit tenant? Remember that neither your condominium corporations' policy nor your landlord's insurance policy protects you as a tenant (3rd part liability, contents, etc.). If you do not have your own insurance policy, get your condominium insurance quote today.

Terrible claim process

by CWood Chris on Jun 8, 2021

Gone are the days of Statefarm.

Our agent is good to work with but as soon as you need to make a claim it’s complete disorganization. Agents are basically sales agents and no longer advocate for their customers. The claim process is unclear and our claim manager is completely unavailable. It takes weeks before we hear back from him and when he does follow up it’s as though he’s reviewing the case for the first time.

Absolutely worst company!

by Southern Albertan on Apr 22, 2021

Took nearly 3 years to repair our house for a hail claim. Over 20 voicemails were sent and 20 emails with no response back. Even the trades they sent, couldn't get their own quotes approved, and therefore gave up and left us. The worst experience ever. Way more than other companies too. Even after we cancelled, they still tried to bill us again. When you do get through on the phone, they will transfer you to various departments, and play dumb with you. I called them out and said this and they had no professional response. They rely on annoying the customer to the point where you get so frustrated that you just hang up, and therefore they still get paid. I'm also building a case with the BBB. This company has to get shut down. How it even runs like this is beyond crazy! I hope Karma crushes everyone in this company. Not worth the stress they intentionally put on their clients. Total fraud!

Taking advantage of customers

by reinhaji on Oct 29, 2020

I have been a Desjardins Insurance (formerly State Farm) for over 30 years. I received my auto insurance renewal notice in September. My automobile rates went up 8%. I felt this was extreme given the current global pandemic. I was able to find cheaper insurance elsewhere. I gave Desjardins 6-weeks notice that I was cancelling my auto and home insurance. They charged me $84.30 as a cancellation fee for cancelling my homeowners insurance. This was more than one months premium. This charge was completely unreasonable and unwarranted.

Liars, thieves

by NeilB on Sep 16, 2020

I'm going to exclude the hours of wait times and their horrible phone services. The long-short of it is that Desjardins charged my credit card without giving me a proper warning. When I called them up to get these charges dropped, I asked them why didn't they email me prior to charging me. They told me while they didn't email, they sent out a letter. A letter which I never received. I asked them to cancel the service and requested that they drop the penalty for cancellation because I never received any letter and they failed to send me an email. They said they would get back to me. A week later they call me up to say they're going to continue with the penalty because - surprise, surprise - NOW they say an email was sent out. I checked my inboxes (all emails I receive are shared through multiple accounts), I checked my SPAM inbox, and there is no proof they sent anything out. In that week they decided to change the information in my file to say they did send out an email just so they could charge me. There's no proof an email was sent out, and they changed their story to me. Just so they could fine me. I presented this argument to the person calling, and she was adamant. She could not provide proof anything was sent out, and refused to even acknowledge that it was strange that only a week ago they admitted they hadn't sent out an email. Because they control the information, they could basically put any lie into their files to support their decisions. They are liars. They are thieves.
