PLEASE BEWARE OF THIS COMPANY

PLEASE BEWARE, USE THEM AT YOUR OWN RISK. A broker recommended intact insurance due to the quote. We decided to go ahead with it. Intact left file pending for a good couple weeks. 4 times I went to Service Ontario to obtain a sticker renewal and I was not able to. The broker contacted Intact several times and they had excuses. Finally, they resolved it due to leaving my file pending. It was until after the first month we noticed an increase. They said oh you cannot get winter tire discount. I said why I have winters for all my vehicles. Then they said you have to have a receipt. So I went and purchased brand new winter tires. Provided them with the receipt and still, it was enough for them to give me the discount. They would not take pictures of cars or anything. Then the second month we noticed an additional increase. I contacted the broker again. The broker contacted them and they came back to say that the monthly increases were because I am supposed to have an app on my phone. I said for what. They want to monitor your driving, how often you brake, where are you going, how fast you drive etc.. I said I never authorized any of that. Even at the beginning of when we got the policy, I said no to that. So their excuse was they increased me because I didn't want the app. my policy, by the way, jumped 150dollars a month more to almost 500 dollars. After several months of all of that, we decided to cancel them and go with another person where we are saving 200 dollars a month. It is illegal for an insurance company to increase your rates without notification.

Intact rips you off easily

I have a false car theft claim on my record. I was never informed by Intact. I found out through another insurance company. I called my broker who knew nothing about it. I called the Claims Department for 2 weeks and spoke to 7 different agents. The claims department said they had to investigate which would take 3 months. I told Intact that my policy was due and they said they would contact me before the due date guess what? They contacted me on the due date which was too late to switch to another company because of the false claim other insurance companies quoted me with high premiums. So I am forced to stay with them for another year. In the meantime, I have filed a complaint against Intact for mistreating, misleading, defrauding me to stay with them. They also increased my policy from $ 538 to $ 682 for no reason. Please don't join Intact!

Choose another insurance

I recently had an accident where I was rear-ended. I contacted my broker and Intact to go through the procedure to start a claim. I was not at fault but they treated me as such. My broker did not defend me. They never called me, or the collision place to provide an update. When they (adjusters) finally gave me an offer, after confirming my car was a total loss, they provided an offer that was less than the car's worth... They acted like they were doing me a favour with the offer they provided. They will act like they care until you actually need them too.

Insurance raise by 27%

by AdelDimitri on Apr 25, 2019
1 out of 5 stars

The best evaluation should be 0 out of 5. The worst ever Insurance company to my opinion, after the first insurance of 2 years that was a satisfactory amount they increased 27% the insurance amount without any reclamation requested. The discount also of 25% mentioned all days on TV is worthless, you cannot even reach 10% while riding a bicycle not a car. A way to get you and the year later they are more expensive than the other insurances. The broker refused to communicate with Intact and asked me it's my responsibility. Very impolite request.

Horrible, Horrible Company

by Kate1227 on Mar 12, 2019

I don't know where to even begin. We were in a car accident that should have been a simple claim. It took 1.5 weeks to have the vehicle looked at. Once we heard something, they wanted to repair the vehicle for $7500 when the vehicle was only worth a maximum of $8200. The $7500 was an ESTIMATE and therefore the true damage was unknown. When we received the information, we instantly requested that it be escalated to look into a total loss. We explained our loss of confidence. From Feb 20, 2019 - March 6, 2019, we got the run-around - told that it was under review. On March 4 in particular, we called for an update (up until this point we had NEVER received a call from Intact; we have ALWAYS had to call for an update) and were told we would receive 3 pieces of information via email by Tuesday. Our broker also called and confirmed this. By the 6 of course, just like the reps' soul - our inbox was empty. I finally lost it! I called them and was told that we were refusing repairs and the rental would be done the next day (never received a call before this saying: we have done the review, here are our findings, based on our findings this is our decision...). It wasn't until I SPELLED out the neglect and bad faith in an email and CC'd the president of Intact until someone actually heard me. I came to learn that after all this time, not one person had requested an autosource to determine the actual cash value of our vehicle, but they were so quick to tell me my vehicle was worth $9600 - with no proof?! We also learned from a phone call from the owner of the wreckers that they were told on Feb 20 to order parts and start repairs (ILLEGALLY WITHOUT THE CLIENTS CONSENT)!!! In the end, we got what we fought for (though we never should have fought). A manager advised that there wasn't anything special being done on our case. Our vehicle was well within the parameters of a total loss (OMG). I was then told that I had until Monday to empty my old vehicle. I told them I would go on Saturday - which they told me was fine. Only to show up at the wreckers that are closed on weekends and no access to my vehicle (I live an hour from the wreckers) and no one will return my calls/emails now! We could certainly SUE Intact on bad faith with handling our claim. The neglect, etc. If I wasn't so exhausted from fighting for what is right for 5 weeks, I would be suing them. Thank you Intact for the mental stress that you caused my family through an already stressful time. I will NEVER EVER EVER EVER be going with Intact again. As soon as my policy is up, I'm out of here. My family, my fiance's family and all of our friends (and as far as I can spread the word) will NEVER use Intact. Horrible. Horrible.

My Drivers Discount

by bhgrant on Feb 11, 2019
1 out of 5 stars

I have been very happy with Intact 'till this summer when they offered me a chance to lower my car insurance. I just plugged a device into my car and it monitored my driving. Everything went well until we started leaving one car in our garage while we spent many weeks and months at our cottage. We kept getting emails telling us to plug our car device in. I finally called explaining what was happening. They said the car had to be driven. Soooo, I had to get my daughter to drive the car out of the garage, around the block and park it every week so our discount would not be lowered. What a joke!!!! On top of this when the car sits for a week or two, they lower my discount amount available. What is the logic in this? I called My discount and they tell me to call my broker. I call the broker and he tells me to call My discount. This is useless. It has caused me more hassle than the money I can save. Do not use My Drivers discount unless you will be driving your vehicle all the time.

If you have a good driving record in AB, you should pay around $110/month (women - $105/month and men - $113/month). Do you overpay? Get an Alberta car insurance quote to start saving.

increased rates by 23%

My 'car + home' insurance rate with Intact Insurance increased by 22.97% overnight when I received a renewal for the 2018-2019 period. I called my broker and was told that nothing can be done about it. I am reporting this to BBB, consumer protection agency and Financial Services Commission of Ontario. My total insurance premium for 'car + home' insurance 2017-2018 years was $2,213.15 and 2018-2019 'car + home' insurance statement shows $2,721.72 for the same insurance. I never had any accidents; no claims, no road tickets or any other factors that would cause my insurance to increase by 22.97% in one year. I have been insured with Intact for over 3 years and never missed a payment. I strongly recommend avoiding this company if you are looking for insurance and want to get a fair price.

INTACT is a TERRIBLE COMPANY

by fundy on Oct 26, 2018
1 out of 5 stars

INTACT is a terrible insurance company and is causing me grief as I write this. They are not quick to act on correcting their mistakes. I happened to log in online after they announced they were going paperless and I noted that there was a place you check claims. Under claims I noticed one from 2016 that is FALSE and I NEVER made. I have been at least two weeks with this between the broker and INTACT trying to get them to fix it. What happened was I called in with a hypothetical question and NOT - I REPEAT - NOT a claim. The person who entered the claim no longer works for INTACT and no money was paid out, obviously, but I am shown at 100% liability. To me, this is fraud and should have been corrected IMMEDIATELY. Instead, the claims manager stated she would investigate and made no promises. The best she could do was to change the 100% at fault over to 0%. This is ludicrous. While my driving record is a 9 (highest rated) if I was to join a different insurer, this claim would then count against me. Not only that but INTACT could not even tell me if this claim HAS affected my policy or not and this is something they need to consult underwriting for. Furthermore, I was bounced back and forth between the broker and INTACT, each one telling me to contact the other. I also had a windshield replaced years ago and apparently, this shows up as a claim. Unfortunately, I trust Carnaghan Taylor Insurance when they told me it was NOT a claim and that it would have ZERO impact on my insurance while this is not true at all. To add even more frustration, INTACT decided to offer this telematics program, where you receive some plug-in device for your vehicle, which monitors some of your driving habits, and as a result, you receive a discount. Well, back in August (we are now at the end of October) I renewed my policy and was adamant with the broker I absolutely did NOT want to be enrolled. I have zero interest in an insurance company monitoring what time of day I drive etc. This is truly Orwellian and I want none of it. So I was surprised to see an added charge of $177 to my policy in October this year. It took a week to find out from the broker that this was added back into my policy since I never enrolled into the tracking program. The problem is...I never enrolled. I spoke to the broker again the following week and they advised I asked to be signed up (enrolled) which is 100% FALSE. I relayed this information back to INTACT and they advised there may be nothing that can be done. I will take this matter to court if need be. The broker first stated that I requested to be signed up then later in the same conversation stated that INTACT automatically enrolls their clients and then when the client doesn't enroll after so many weeks, they automatically lose the discount. I never received the device, I never signed or authorized any enrollment, and I agreed to a binding policy agreement and nowhere in that do I see any mention of this program being applied. I am furious that I could have easily missed this information and furious that either the broker or the insurance company didn't immediately make things right with me. Well, if they want to make me wait on their clock, then I am going to make sure I expose this and do an investigation of my own!

I was with Intact years ago and my broker ended up quitting and before he quit, he gave me a quote and when the payment was due, it was 100 more than quoted and I called to find out why and that's when they told me I had no broker and wasn't being assigned a new one

Their call centre employees are rude. They aren't able to provide you with a simple answer. The company continues to withdraw money from your account even after you haven't renewed your policy with them. And to top it all, my broker is a lazy liar who seeks to fill his pockets.
