Have pain from a car accident, family doctor and all other parties recommend physiotherapy, yet they processed to send me to their doctors and prolong the inevitable process. I don’t find it fair how I pay monthly no questions asked and the one time something unfortunate actually happens they do everything in their power to save a penny at the customer's expense.
In 2008 I had a very serious car accident. The OPP threatened the driver with a manslaughter charge (if I died), and the Doctor thought I would never walk again. That serious. I couldn't wash, or dress, and barely feed myself. They gave me less than $200/month for someone to help me with these things. When going from lawyer to lawyer asking for help, all of them said Aviva was the most difficult company in regards to claims. At the settlement conference I was attacked mercilessly, I still have nightmares about it, 12 years later. They sent a private investigator to follow me around, several days. They were simply horrible, it is worth paying for another insurer.
Did you know that on average Ontario drivers with good driving records pay $1,805/year in auto insurance? Is your insurance rate higher? Get a free car insurance quote and start saving today.
Aviva is the stingiest car insurance company in Canada. Sure their premiums are generally reasonable which is why they are one of the largest insurance companies, however, as soon as you get into an accident and need treatment they will do anything to avoid paying.
I am a personal injury lawyer and any time I get an Aviva Accident Benefits file they try to designate it as minor injury and only pay out $3.5k for treatment. I have had files where my client had severe PTSD or tears in the shoulder or pre-existing injuries which make it impossible to resolve their accident-related injuries under the $3.5k limit (this should get you out of the Minor Injury Guideline and increase your entitlement to treatment to $65k), and they all get labelled as minor injury claimants.
Never go with Aviva.
The Accident Benefits team in Markham Ontario have been a nightmare to deal with. I have been fighting with them for 3.5 years and now have to take them to court. I have been forced to pay out thousands of dollars in rehab and I was the one who was rear ended. They hired their own doctor to review my claim who said my injuries were not serious and were not as a result of my accident. Do not wait until you need them to find out they are scam artists. Save your money and go elsewhere.
I switched to Aviva for insurance in February of 2020. I was happy with their low rates which were better than my previous provider. My opinion of them changed in the fall of 2020 when I was rear-ended by another vehicle and got a concussion as a result. My concussion didn't subside in the normal timeframe and developed into post-concussion syndrome which I'm still dealing with 1.5 years later. Aviva has been a constant roadblock in terms of getting the treatments I need to recover (which my plan is supposed to cover). First I was sent to a physiotherapy place of their recommendation where my treatments were all over the place. I'd be told I needed one thing but then I'd never heard about that again and I'd be seeing someone new. The treatments were not well coordinated with their staff, they were sporadic, and at the end of the day, not overly helpful. Then I was told to stop coming back when my insurance coverage ran out. I asked my adjuster if I could go back to therapy, but to a physiotherapist of my choosing. I was immediately rejected and had to hire legal assistance to get that to happen (and get myself moved to the major injury category). Now I'm FINALLY with a good physiotherapist and I'm finally making progress in my recovery and once again Aviva has stepped in and said I can't continue without doing further medical assessments. I'm already continually being assessed by my physiotherapist. They want me to travel long distances for further assessments knowing full well that I have an intolerance to the movement of being in a car for more than 30 minutes. They are terrible. They don't care about their customers, they don't care about providing you with the coverage you're paying them for, they just want to line their pockets and deny you as much as they possibly can. Every therapist and legal expert I've spoken to said "oh no.....you're with Aviva" because they have a reputation for being the worst in the business for this. You may save on your monthly premiums, but you'll pay dearly if you ever get into an accident and need therapy of any kind. They are heartless and soulless and I deeply regret ever giving them my business.
