My husband was in an accident with an illegally parked vehicle with no markings and it totalled our vehicle and my husband is the superman so he crawled away and Aviva said he was at fault under the FDR sec170.1 but I did more research and found sec170.2 and he is not at fault but they wouldn’t budge so took it to the ombudsman and he pretty much said prove it... So we got the officer to write something and he did kinda (joke) that wasn’t good enough so we posted online and a witness came forward and that wasn’t good enough then we found out there is a second page to the accident report that shows the t/p over the white line parked and that still wasn’t good enough. I wish I could find a lawyer to make an example out of Aviva, RBC and the OPP!!! I would give them all the money they got and only take enough to buy another vehicle that’s how much I hate them! If my son and I were in the vehicle we would be dead! Ongoing since December 17-2019 and they are the most expensive! I would not recommend ever!
Worst company ever!!! Have had my insurance with this company for 15 years, no claims, no tickets. Sent a form to be filled out before renewal (the only company in Alberta to do so) They sent it back with a rude letter saying it was not filled out. The only places I did not fill out are the ones that said " if applicable" which to me meant fill out if it applies to me, which they did not. Since the Royal Bank endorses this company it makes me think about also changing banks. Any person I know who is thinking about insurance I will advise them to run from this company.
Did you know that on average Ontario drivers with good driving records pay $1,805/year in auto insurance? Is your insurance rate higher? Get a free car insurance quote and start saving today.
Worst experience ever. Met with an accident on 22 March 2019 and still waiting for the settlement amount. Made 40+calls and emails and they are like “we are investigating” like what? Did I murder someone? And now I bought a cheap car to commute and they put a hold on my insurance and I can’t even drive my car(new)! I wish I could give them zero stars.
So, it appears Aviva does not care about its customers. They only fix what can be seen. They fixed 80% of the issues and left me to fend for myself, even after Ford said it "this can be the cause of the impact" (direct quote). Aviva also does not like phones - or at least calling back. It took my adjuster days to return my calls, and 1.5 weeks later I had to call to find out someone else now has the case. Since I got my car back in March 2019 (it took 1.5 months to fix) I barely drove it. Now I have to pay for the rest of the repairs myself. Beware.
Have a claim open now, about a stolen car... They treat you as a criminal, it’s already been 6 months and it is still under investigation... The adjuster, investigator, and claims department are very rude and awful. I really like my broker, but as for Aviva insurance, it’s crap and not worth the extra money for full coverage if your car's used... Would not recommend to anyone... I wouldn’t even give one star if there was an option
I just got a registered letter from Aviva stating I had to submit a "WRITTEN APPLICATION FOR REVIEW AND ACCEPTANCE". Without this form, my policy would not be renewed. Also, FULL PAYMENT must be made if accepted. I spoke to an agent 2 weeks prior to receiving this notice and there was no mention of this ridiculousness. He updated my existing insurance with my new details and I got my pink slip in the mail. Today, I called them again to find out why I was getting such a letter and the rep. indicated that I was picked randomly and this is a NEW LAW in ALBERTA - which I think he said to get me off the phone #fakenews. I will be filing a complaint and will start looking elsewhere for auto insurance. I have a clean driving recording & have been driving for 15 years. This does not add up - they are up to something.
Do yourself a big favour and avoid Aviva at all costs. Unacceptable customer service, insane wait times to speak to advisors. Some we have documented 78 minutes wait time to speak to an advisor. Insulting and actually disgusting how we were treated, even got hung up on a few times. Yes, they actually hung up and said: we are now closed, goodbye. Really the worst experience with an insurance provider ever. They just make up the rules as they go. You have been warned folks, the reviews are true. Simply do not even try!!!

THEN my wife's 2004 Chevy Tahoe was stolen and we were treated like criminals. They stated that the vehicle's ignition wasn't compromised the usual way that their appraiser is used to seeing. Not my problem. We were treated as suspects and were victimized worse by Aviva. They even had the nerve to ask for bank records, income tax files, even phone records couldn't believe it. We ended up settling for way below replacement value after 7 months of going back and forth. They make 1 offer and if you don't like it, too bad. We got $4100 to replace our Tahoe and had to spend $7500 to obtain a comparable vehicle. Really the worst experience with an insurance provider ever. They just make up the rules as they go. You have been warned folks, the reviews are true.
They kept me waiting 52 min but no response. I was very much disappointed. Will never use Aviva service.

My insurance went from $1100 to $1600 (approx.) in one year, no accidents, no tickets. I continue to be retired. The only difference was I am now a year older 67 and now 68. My wife has a similar story to tell $1000 to $1300 (approx.). Didn't notice until it was too late, I am angry with myself and OTIP. The Government's expectation is that the insurance rate should increase between 0 to 4% for the 2019-2020 season.
