Lots of delays, but surprisingly, AVIVA didn’t leave me stranded

by v37skylar on May 28, 2022
3.3 out of 5 stars

As many of you know, there’s been unprecedented delays with claims and getting parts in. My family runs a body shop, so naturally, I chose to have my car repaired there.

My claims adjuster, Tristan, was great from beginning to end, although there were delays on their end that didn’t allow us to get started as soon as we wanted to. It took 2 weeks to obtain approval to proceed with the repair. As a result, we were unable to order the parts on time and I had to wait 5 months for them to come in.

I only had $1500 of rental coverage, which equates to about 40 days with an economy vehicle. I was then advised that there was an exception and all I had to do was provide an invoice proving that parts are on backorder. AVIVA covered close to $6000 in rental charges. This alone was a big deal to me as I have read several horror stories where insurance companies left struggling Canadians stranded. Please exercise your rights.

Auto Insurance

3.5 out of 5 stars

I had Aviva as an auto insurer for close to two years. I was able to change my insurance policy twice, easily, with prompt help from Aviva. First time I was to add my husband as a second driver, meaning I had to cancel the earlier agreement which was done fast and smooth without any complications. I later moved from Ontario to Quebec, and I let Aviva know of the change in residence. They were fully supportive in helping me end their insurance and refunded the pre-paid cash without any fuss. Although some of the emails went unanswered, a follow-up call would always get the issue fixed, and a confirmation email sent. I would recommend you to sign up with Aviva without any worries!

Expensive and sneaky

It is true that their customer service is good... but everything stops there. When you have a change in insurance coverage, good luck trying to understand their calculations. If you have a claim, they will act on it promptly... but... they will nickel and dime you to death. They will tell you their procedure, not the one you are legally entitled to. They will low-ball you for your claim. Advice? Fight for your numbers. Get prices of similar cars and send them to the "adjuster". Request your claim be sent to the supervisor. And, never, ever accept the first or second offer. Always accept the third!!!

Customer service agent

I recently had my auto insurance claim settled in my favour and was quite satisfied with that. However, I contacted one of the customer service agents to change the auto claim insurance, I was taken aback by his weird way of replying. I was told by the customer agent 'Madame, you have asked the same questions 3-4 times. I have 12 years of experience and have never been asked so many times." Firstly, clearly I did not know, I am not supposed to ask a question more than one time. Secondly, he might have 12 years of experience (by the way why I need to know anyway) but this was my first time making changes to my auto claim. In order to be 100% right in making my change request, I was a little restrained. In so doing I might have asked a question couple of times. I would expect from a customer service agent to explain clearly the changes and how this affects the rate to remove my doubts rather explaining his own professional profile. In the end, if one is not comfortable with explaining to the customer, 1st do not take such job and 2nd rather than reacting to the gently asked questions by the customer and making the latter feel silly, please transfer the call to another agent who might be more competent in his job.

Great rates for good drivers

by James on May 9, 2017

Not sure why there are so many negative reviews but then again I have not had any claims experience with Aviva so my rating is solely based on their rates and customer service which I have found both to be excellent! *Update* I have went with another provider as Aviva's rates have gone up significantly even though nothing has changed with my perfect driving record!

If you have a good driving record in AB, you should pay around $110/month (women - $105/month and men - $113/month). Do you overpay? Get an Alberta car insurance quote to start saving.
