My vehicle was involved in a car vs. pole collision in August. I was woken up in the middle of the night and given this news by police, my partner decided to take my car without asking and fell asleep behind the wheel, totaling my brand-new SUV. I filed a claim within the hour, police file #included. The next day I was contacted by a man who told me I should know in 7-10 business days if they're going to approve the claim. 13 days later I was notified the claim would be approved and had a rental set up while waiting for them to confirm a total loss. 13 days later the rental company tells me insurance was pulling coverage the next business days, which I thought meant they deemed it a loss, I sent TD the bill of sale as I have the depreciation clause, and they requested it the week prior. An hour after sending it in, I was contacted by another rep from TD and told she was special investigations. She made me answer all the same questions again. Multiple times. Questioned my story about being asleep when police arrived and accused me of giving the keys to my boyfriend, tried to say he lives with me as an uninsured driver, then tried to say he was drunk. She tried to say there was no police report in the file, contrary to the prior rep who had the file in front of him in our last call. When I asked how long she would take to do her investigation, she stated it would take as long as it takes for her to be satisfied. I faxed her every document she requested beginning of September, then crickets. She did not return my voicemails or emails for over a month. Last week I had enough and emailed again, my displeasure was quite obvious, I threatened a lawyer if she continued to ignore me. Like magic, 45 minutes later, she calls me. Tells me she has confirmed my story as truthful, and I'll be getting the claim settled... That I would hear from someone on the meritorious team within the next couple of days... 9 days later, and I have yet to have any more contact. All while I'm still paying for my 2024 SUV that I haven't had in 14 weeks as well as paying insurance on it... And paying out of pocket for a rental… My initial 7-10 business days for a decision is currently 14 weeks and counting. Do yourself a favor and avoid this company at all costs.
I was involved in a 100% not at fault accident (other driver ran a stop sign) when I made initial contract they were helpful (sunday) but when Monday came around they treated me totally different, they said they can't get me a rental even tho I paid for rental coverage and just told me to "get the bus or uber, submit your receipts and you'll probably get reimbursed" even though I told them neither are offered in my area, had to find my own transportation for 2 weeks.
They WILL NOT let you buy YOUR car back, said everything is sold to another company, and you have to deal with them. I tried to contact them and got told "people think they can just buy it back, but it doesn't work that way. It's probably already sold". They push and pressure you to sign a release form so they can take your car before settling the case.
Lowballed me on the appraisal, got all the specs of the car wrong, then forced me to do all the leg work to get a fair price for my car. It took 3 weeks to settle the auto part. Would not give me fair value for my modifications, said a upgraded clutch ($3000) was normal maintenance for a car with sub 100,000km.
I had to find my own transportation, I got treated like a criminal, I didn't get the coverage I paid for, I ended up with a rental but for less than 48hrs, forced to rush around to get my belongings and papers despite my injuries.
If you care about your car and are a car enthusiast in Canada, I can not recommend TD, unless you don't want your car back.
Only positive is they sent my money quick.
If you have a good driving record in AB, you should pay around $110/month (women - $105/month and men - $113/month). Do you overpay? Get an Alberta car insurance quote to start saving.
I contacted their office to request to move my payment dates to the 15th of every month, and they said they would do that, but the person I spoke to on the phone did NOT DO AS THEY SAID THEY WOULD. This caused me to miss two payments in a row for my insurance yet the entire time I thought I was paying successfully on the 15th TD was not taking payments out, and they had decided to cancel my policy and this has now affected my record due to their customer service. NEGLIGENCE.
I had an agent yell on me on the phone because I did not understand their "policy" that had me being charged twice in once month. Don't make the mistake with going with this company.
I have had nothing but issue after issue with my payments. With customer service. Trying to make me pay multiple months with two payments. I had it fixed and payments went up now once again they’re trying to make me pay two payments. I filed a damage claim back on August 5th. It’s almost been a month and no one has called me or contacted me. Not once. Once my claim is done, I am switching to another company and do not recommend TD to any.
Customer service is awful, they made me cry 2 times ; the time you want to cancel your policy they play with you! I have called them 3 times and cancelled but kept receiving renewal confirmation!!!! Their prices are so high and once you get problem they find reasons not pay you! Do not go with TD
They are monsters.
Wished I would have checked other insurance providers sooner. I have been with TD for 20 years only ever had 1 claim. Every year it goes up. Saved $2000 with another provider with more coverage. When you call you wait 90 min, if you leave a call back number which I did you don’t get a call back. They want you to do everything yourself online. I’m paying for service I don’t want to do their work. I cancelled my vehicle and home insurance and a week later got a bill even higher than the original. Waited 90 min on hold again when representative answered. I told him I got a policy even more money after I canceled I told him they were too expensive, phone wait is ridiculous, and I’m not paying to do it myself online. He hung up on me. I wasn’t rude, they never asked why I cancelled, thought they should know. Guess they don’t need customers.
I’m very grateful for the good service and very responsive TD Insurance advisor, specifically to one employee for assisting me very well.
The purpose of my review is to say “Thank you” to the customer service representative. This lady provided me with an excellent service. Unfortunately, the service she provided became unique. I wish her good luck in her professional career. Also, I wish everyone including myself to meet in our lives more people like her.

I had an extremely frustrating experience with this TD insurance. From the very beginning, communication was a nightmare. They rarely respond to emails or phone calls, and when they do, it's always with a rude and dismissive tone. Every time I ask for information or clarification, I’m met with vague, unhelpful answers. It's clear that customer service is not a priority here, and it's impossible to get the support I need. I would not recommend them to anyone — it's been nothing but wasted time, money, and frustration.
