Renewal rip-off

by Dirk on Mar 24, 2018
1.5 out of 5 stars

I had an at-fault accident last year and 2 years ago damage to my vehicle which was not rated as an accident. Now they are saying I "used up" my accident forgiveness with my first claim of damage to the vehicle and therefore my rate goes up 200%... after 26 years of accident free and one speeding ticket on my record that seems crazy... got comparable rates from other insurances and instead of paying Belairdirect $330/month I will be with another company at $150/month starting April...

Terrible company

Terrible, I drove with the Automerit app for nine months and earned a 9% discount, only to have the rate increased 15% without any accident or tickets. The Automerit program is a complete lie. I'm totally disappointed with Belairdirect, you're better off with any other company.

Insurance scam

by Dallas2306 on Nov 16, 2017

Bel air increased my insurance $360 a year because of the location I live in, I have a perfect driving record no accidents, no claims and no tickets shouldn't my insurance go down not up. I've lived in the same place for 3 years why would my insurance go up now. It's the scam insurance companies have on the go

Did you know that on average Ontario drivers with good driving records pay $1,805/year in auto insurance? Is your insurance rate higher? Get a free car insurance quote and start saving today.

Bad

They tell you they can save you money. Well, that is a joke after the first year they never asked if I wanted to renew just sent me my insurance slips. Phone them and to my surprise, they increased my premium a year by 500.00 dollars more a year. No accidents no claims am over 50. This company is a complete joke and I never would tell anyone to get insurance with them.

BelAir Increased premiums

by Carmom on Sep 22, 2017
2 out of 5 stars

Upon renewal my policy went from 69$ to over 90$ /mo.
I have no accident or claims history. Was with CDI since new vehicle was bought. Car was 23k, now less than 5k, why are my premiums higher than when it was brand new, and I was younger, less experienced? I have no demerits.
The agent told me premiums have increased for all drivers becauae of an increase in claims in "my category" last year? What category is that? The one where responsible drivers dont have any claims? Nonsense. I believe this is a result if their acquiring CDI and not having automatic consent to pull my credit bureau upon renewal. My credit history has no bearing on my driving. Ive always paid my insurance.
I requested to have a full accounting of exactly why my insurance increased to $90/mo.
The agent said she would see what she could do about that, no guarantee of return call, email or written explanation.
I will not be renewing with Belair.

Price increase

So, to my surprise, for being a good driver, no tickets, no accidents, ZERO CLAIMS, MY insurance jumped from $1427.00 a year to $1800.00 and this is supposedly with my combined savings for also having content ins. And because I pay it all upfront. They proceeded to tell me it's because of my vehicle rating. I'm a single mom on disability. Going through cancer. I was shocked, upset and disappointed. Especially after having 4 of my family members change their Insurance companies to them. After calling around. I found rates at $1369.00 this is without bundled savings. So obviously I wasn't that much of a respected customer! And if it where nothing to do with my vehicle rating how can another company be 400$+ a year. The broker I spoke with said I'm the other client from Belair direct. Making the change

They're the worst.

From the very beginning until now I've had the worst experience with Belair. I got a new car and needed to insure it. I called a few insurance companies for a quote and theirs was the lowest at the time. I signed up with them and agreed to premium which would cost me $328 a month. It's my first time having an auto insurance under my name, so I settled for the high amount I would have to pay since there were no records of me driving. I was always insured under my dad's policy, but he didn't have me signed up as a second driver. They told me if I have a clean record after a while, my premium would go down. I gave them my bank account number for pre-authorized payments set for every middle of the month. I got a paper mail showing the break down of the cost and what's covered in my premium. To my surprise, it shows that I have to pay $345 a month when the representative clearly told me it's only $328 a month. $17 is quite a jump. I gave them a call to complain, but the representative told me I have to pay $345. She can see on the system that I was quoted $328, but somehow it got reassessed and they didn't even let me know! I kept telling her I was quoted for $328 and asked to talk to the guy who I spoke with. She wouldn't transfer me to him, saying they have all the records on the system and she will help me out. She didn't do anything about it and her tone of voice was implying that I should just pay that much and stop complaining. I was so mad! Remember, I gave them my bank account info? I kept checking my online bank to see if they took any money yet. 1 and 1/2 month later still nothing. I thought maybe they just set it for a different day than what I had told them. I went for a trip, so I didn't bother about it. I thought they could just take the money whenever since it'll be in my account anyway. I received a paper mail again saying they will cancel my insurance if I don't start paying. I called them again regarding this issue raging about the situation. So happens, the representative entered the wrong account number. Now, I'm 4 payments behind since the first month is a double. I gave them my account number again and agreed to get the money at the end of the month. They decided to take 5 payments instead of 4 when the fifth one wasn't due for another 3 weeks. I'm only 23, so I have everything on the budget plus I have other bills too. I make sure I have enough funds on my account for all the pre-authorized payments, but they messed up! My account is negative and the extra money they took was supposed to be for a different bill. I'm getting a bad credit 'cause of them! I asked for a refund, but they said they'd rather not 'cause it takes 21 business days to get the refund which my next payment is due anyway. Who knows if they're gonna take another payment again for this month when they said they won't. THEY'RE ALL LIARS! Their system is messed up! The representatives always say "They don't know". Hire better people and have better communication. I am so moving to a different company. I don't even know why they keep sending me a new pink copy every month? The start and expiry date always get updated every month. I don't remember getting a new one every month from my dad's policy.

Rate increase for no reason

by whatwhy on Nov 25, 2014
1 out of 5 stars

Just received my renewal documents, my annual rate is going up by $200 for no reason. I called and they couldn't even explain why, just said that their rates must have increased. The icing on the cake is that when I called they increased my rate even MORE when I said my usage of the car had increased by a few thousand km (vs what I estimated when I first bought the policy). So now it's a $300 annual increase. And I'm accident, claim free etc. I thought Ontario is supposed to lowering auto insurance rates??? I am shopping around for a new company.

$350 increase after 1st year

by JayD on Aug 26, 2014
1 out of 5 stars

We switched to belairdirect in Sep. 2013 because their rates were lower than the competition. We're now in Aug. 2014 and were just notified our premium was going up by over $350/year for bogus reason ("the company increased the premium due to where we live, the kind of car we have; blah, blah, blah").

Needless to say we're shopping around for a new insurance company.

After 5 years payment to Belair at the time of Renewal I would expect to see the rate going down because of no accident ,no fine and no claim !
BE Lier increase my car insurance more than 30% !!!!
one customer said :I’d guess, someone has to pay for people who get into accidents on the road, and that someone is You, not Belair.
