Bad Practise

by Ruben on Jul 28, 2016
1 out of 5 stars

Mistakes after mistakes- First they kept my old car insured instead of my new one, so I was driving an uninsured care- then when is time for me to change cars they advise that they don't do classic cars (20 years old or older) and send me to a broker (Powell) who literally wants to grab your wallet - the price was triple that what I receive from another insurance 20 minutes later- Bell Air is a rip off and have no accountability for their business practice - If you value your car/ house and want a respectable insurance that can do what they supposed to do when you have a claim stay away from Bell Air - find yourself a different one.

Horrible customer service

by james1 on Jul 28, 2016
1 out of 5 stars

Absolute garbage customer service, they will be prompt and aggressive trying to obtain your insurance, but when you are making inquiries and claims... good luck.
The total insurance charged amount might be very cheap, but the cheap cost results in garbage customer service.
I made a claim on June 27th and it's been over a month and it is still not settled. Melissa J.-G. was my claim specialist, but I only got one voicemail and one email from her in one month, I had to make several calls to see what was going on and never received any updates.
I had to make complaints all over their facebook page and twitter to get any action done, I got a call from their complaint department and only then something has happened and apparently now I have a new claim specialist. My car has finally been evaluated and it has taken over a month, I was JUST sideswiped resulting in some big scratches on the car and they have a large estimate and it is literally $200 over the value of my car, so they are considered the car as totaled, what the hell is that?
The scratches can be buffed out and repainted.
The car is old, but very drivable, never had any engine or transmission problems.

Do not get belair direct insurance, you may pay a bit more, but you will 1000 times more better customer service and communication with a competitor.

Worst company ever

by 6_star_gold_driver on Jun 3, 2016

I'm not insured with Belair Direct. But the guy, who spun out and crashed into me, was. They delayed, delayed, delayed paying up at every opportunity. Eventually, they claimed that their client was not insured at the time of the accident because of some loophole. Their client ended up GETTING CHARGED for driving without insurance. Well, the police and courts eventually determined that he was in fact insured and are basically attempting to force Belair Direct to pay. It's been over a year and I've had to pay my deductible and the accident went ON MY INSURANCE. They are still giving my insurance company the runaround and refuse to pay for the damages even with a court telling them they have to. They think they are above the law. DO NOT GO WITH THIS COMPANY. For your own financial safety, because if you are at fault in an accident they will do whatever it takes to NOT COVER YOU. I think they might be having financial problems to go to such lengths to avoid paying. Greasy company full of losers. NEVER GO WITH THEM.

DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY!!!!

by BaDbAd on May 16, 2016

If there was a rating less than 1, I would pick it. Only been with them for 2 months, and it's been nothing but crap. They keep taking money out of my account without notice and with no reasoning. They change the prices with no notice and no reasoning as well. No one freaking speaks English, which doesn't help with the confusion! This is the worst insurance company for anything, protect yourself and anyone you know, don't waste your money or wreck your credit!!

Horrible - 0 Stars if possible

Do not deal with this company! Was involved in an accident - I was not at fault, other driver was charged. Took them 3 months to send me the money for my written off car. Every time I called, they wanted another form filled out, told me more than once the money had been sent out - totally untrue. In the meantime had to borrow money to buy another second hand car. Called last month to ask why my insurance pymt was so low, and to make sure they had both cars covered. Was told both were covered, it was an adjustment period. Found out today they had "mistakenly" taken one car off insurance and not notified me. They refuse to discuss pymt plan for missed pymts, even though it was entirely their fault, and I had contacted them previously about this. I am still unable to
work because of the accident. I cannot stress enough, Do Not Use Bel Air Direct for your car insurance.

Nightmare...

If someone could only realize to which point dishonest insurance can mess up your life. How you can end up losing your job when you work on a road and the insurance company takes 4 months to pay you off and you have no car. And how do you picture a sales representative with no car?

I work for a beer company and was involved in a car accident and just because I had few cans of UNOPENED beer in the trunk that I showcase my clients, they said that there is a possibility that I was drunk when I was involved in the accident.

After a month, they took the rental and I kept the rental for another month by paying for it. This is all what I could afford. (I just got out of a bankruptcy). Another month of borrowing friends' cars and until that was no longer either. Then had to quit my job and struggle for another month until they finally paid me. Now, have to restart everything since day 1. If you value your well-being, don't go with Belair or their shady owner Intact Assurance

Did you know that on average Ontario drivers with good driving records pay $1,805/year in auto insurance? Is your insurance rate higher? Get a free car insurance quote and start saving today.

NO FAULT ACCIDENT

This is simply a scammer who is stealing money from vehicle owners. Somebody hit me and ran and that company doesn't want to pay a penny for my vehicle damage. This not my fault and I had police report for that. AGAIN STAY AWAY FROM THAT COMPANY IF YOU WANT TO REALLY SOMEONE TAKING CARE OF YOU WHEN YOU NEED THEM. I'D LOVE TO PAY LITTLE EXTRA AND GET REAL INSURANCE RATHER THAN BELAIRDIRECT SCAM

I have been a client since june 2007 and this insurance has been excellent in resolving my claim. Also i have checked around for cheaper insurance and no one has more bang for your buck than this company. So whoever has sour grapes you must be sour yourself.

Cancellation Fees

by Billy on Dec 4, 2015
1 out of 5 stars

Horrible.

I'm a driver with no prior accidents, no parking tickets, I put snow tires on my vehicle every year, and I also participated in their Automerit tracking program.

After a year with Belair, I was forced to move. My new apartment is 4km away from my previous apartment. My car insurance rates shot up over $700/yr. There was no way to reduce the rate.

I shopped around for a new insurance provider and spoke to a Belair rep about what was involved in cancelling. At no point was 'cancellation administrative fee' mentioned. I found a better rate with TD Insurance and called Belair to cancel. You can imagine my surprise when I was charged over $250 in cancellation fees.

It seems odd that they can change rates as they see fit, essentially changing the terms of a contract, but when I'm unhappy with this and need to find a better rate, I'm penalized yet again. I guess I would have had to stay with Belair for another year to cancel with no penalty?

They also charge an interest rate when you pay monthly. Not all insurance companies do this.

What a horrible way to treat a customer.

Accident Forgiveness...NOT!

by lawlessj on Nov 6, 2015
1 out of 5 stars

I recently had a claim for which I was at fault. It was my first auto insurance claim. I felt somewhat relieved that I had 'accident forgiveness' through Belair, especially considering they increased my monthly rate by $15 the year before. When I asked why, they couldn't give me a reason. When my insurance came up for renewal this year, my monthly rate increased a further $30/mo!!! I called and asked why and they told me it was because of the accident I had been in. I told them that I had accident forgiveness, so my rate shouldn't increase at all. They gave me a story that they, as a company didn't increase my premium, but because I was in an accident, my Alberta Government rating was lowered and so they had to charge me accordingly. What!? How is that 'accident forgiveness'? To make it worse, their tv commercials focus on their accident forgiveness and how you can get off 'scott free'. BS! False advertising? As soon as I can get a better rate with another company, I'm outta there!
