Rate increase for no reason

by whatwhy on Nov 25, 2014
1 out of 5 stars

Just received my renewal documents, my annual rate is going up by $200 for no reason. I called and they couldn't even explain why, just said that their rates must have increased. The icing on the cake is that when I called they increased my rate even MORE when I said my usage of the car had increased by a few thousand km (vs what I estimated when I first bought the policy). So now it's a $300 annual increase. And I'm accident, claim free etc. I thought Ontario is supposed to lowering auto insurance rates??? I am shopping around for a new company.

$125/month turned into $342

1.5 out of 5 stars

I have never felt so taken advantage of in my life. What I was originally quoted at almost tripled because of a clerical error by my previous insurer – not even my fault. And by the time I found this out it was too late, I was already enrolled and had no choice but to accept their increase. I spent A LOT of time on the phone to try and get the problem fixed and ended up canceling the policy… not surprisingly even the cancelation process was frustrating. I personally cannot in good conscious recommend this provider to anyone after my experience with the company.

I may just be another internet review but my advice is: Avoid at all costs. If you give them a crumb they will take a pound of flesh. I shudder to think what they must be like when you have an actual claim.

$350 increase after 1st year

by JayD on Aug 26, 2014

We switched to belairdirect in Sep. 2013 because their rates were lower than the competition. We're now in Aug. 2014 and were just notified our premium was going up by over $350/year for bogus reason ("the company increased the premium due to where we live, the kind of car we have; blah, blah, blah").

Needless to say we're shopping around for a new insurance company.

Did you know that on average Ontario drivers with good driving records pay $1,805/year in auto insurance? Is your insurance rate higher? Get a free car insurance quote and start saving today.

After 5 years payment to Belair at the time of Renewal I would expect to see the rate going down because of no accident ,no fine and no claim !
BE Lier increase my car insurance more than 30% !!!!
one customer said :I’d guess, someone has to pay for people who get into accidents on the road, and that someone is You, not Belair.

For respect fo elsewhere

They sale supplementary product with bold face lie and false information, not informing you of your own obligation, had a complaint going with them for over 2 weeks never heard back from them, the person in charge of my file was never available and never returned calls. I went to settle the claim side and warned them if they charged me of the extra bogus protection I would cancel my home insurance with them and go elsewhere, and surprise surprise they did charge me for it so I cancelled my home insurance went with Desjardins better protection at a better price, and a more courteous service.

Speaking of which Belairdirect as ZERO respect for the LGBT community, total disrespect, misgendering and dissmisiveness by their staff, really not impressed, not doing business with them in the future that's for sure.

0 Star Rating!

Their Auto Merit Program is another way of taking money from you!!! I got my final quote without the auto merit program because I told them I can't download the app. After 2 months they increased my premium by 15%, saying because I didn't enroll on their auto merit. That was not even mentioned in the policy. I called their office and obviously, they will not change it because they have to be consistent on taking money from customers apart from the premium which is just the legal part of the contract, and they get used to that and having more is not enough for them, so, they find ways to rob you. Had I known how bad they make business, I would haven't even click their website!

If you have a good driving record in AB, you should pay around $110/month (women - $105/month and men - $113/month). Do you overpay? Get an Alberta car insurance quote to start saving.

Glad I cancelled!

My experience has been awful since the renewal of my insurance. After being a customer of 5 years my insurance was put back to what I was originally paying my 1st year as a customer. After finding cheaper insurance I decided to cancel with BellAir. When I cancelled on Sept 3rd I had a payment going out that night. I was told they are going to still take it but I will receive it back within 5 business days. After not receiving my payment back within 5 days I called again and was told they have a date and it will be back in my account by the 17th. Again after not receiving it by the 17th, I called again 1st time had a rude representative and was hung up. And 2nd time was told again that my money is going to be in my account by Sep 19th. Overall I hate that I wasted 5 years with this company.

Increase deductible

by Gman2006 on Sep 13, 2019
1 out of 5 stars

I have several cars insured with Belairdirect. I just received an email from them stating "After careful review of the policy mentioned above and based on new information, the following modifications will be made to the policy as of the effective date indicated above: Increasing your comprehensive deductible from $200 to $1000. Your revised policy will follow shortly." I've never had an issue Canadian Direct (their predecessor) for approx 30 years. With this particular vehicle we've had two claims in 10 years. The claims were 1 windshield replacement and last year the back window blew out when I was replacing a hatch strut. Needless to say with this type of customer service attitude they will be losing my business on all my vehicles. I'll also share this on social media.

Worst Company ever

by amohummed on Aug 22, 2019

Belair Direct raised my car insurance by 30% because I moved next door... Literally moved from apt 103 to apt 102 in the same building and I have the same parking spot and driving habits. Worst company ever... I would never buy insurance from them ever. This company is designed to steal your money and provide you with little to no service. Avoid at all costs.

Renewal Scam

by bs021 on Aug 9, 2019
1 out of 5 stars

Switched initially because of cheaper rates. Was a customer for 5 years. Initially paid around 175/month was going lower to 160/month until this year 2019 they bumped it to a nice 220/month! Why are loyal customers who have had 0 claims, tickets and accidents, treated in this way? I wrote them an email asking them why I am punished and that I will be looking for a new provider if there is no explanation. All I got back was an auto-reply stating my renewal policy will be cancelled on my renewal date. This shows you the disregard they take to customers. No explanation, no trying to win you back, no matching better rates. This business is a scam.
