5 out of 5 stars
Hi, I have been with Belairdirect for almost 2 years, no problem at all. But then my cousin came to live with me and I added him to my insurance. As expected, my insurance went up with 40 dollars but after 3 weeks he moved out. I provide them with proof, called them for more than 3 times, my insurance is still 332 and I got into an accident. They are giving me hard time even when I am not at fault.
From the very beginning until now I've had the worst experience with Belair. I got a new car and needed to insure it. I called a few insurance companies for a quote and theirs was the lowest at the time. I signed up with them and agreed to premium which would cost me $328 a month. It's my first time having an auto insurance under my name, so I settled for the high amount I would have to pay since there were no records of me driving. I was always insured under my dad's policy, but he didn't have me signed up as a second driver. They told me if I have a clean record after a while, my premium would go down. I gave them my bank account number for pre-authorized payments set for every middle of the month. I got a paper mail showing the break down of the cost and what's covered in my premium. To my surprise, it shows that I have to pay $345 a month when the representative clearly told me it's only $328 a month. $17 is quite a jump. I gave them a call to complain, but the representative told me I have to pay $345. She can see on the system that I was quoted $328, but somehow it got reassessed and they didn't even let me know! I kept telling her I was quoted for $328 and asked to talk to the guy who I spoke with. She wouldn't transfer me to him, saying they have all the records on the system and she will help me out. She didn't do anything about it and her tone of voice was implying that I should just pay that much and stop complaining. I was so mad! Remember, I gave them my bank account info? I kept checking my online bank to see if they took any money yet. 1 and 1/2 month later still nothing. I thought maybe they just set it for a different day than what I had told them. I went for a trip, so I didn't bother about it. I thought they could just take the money whenever since it'll be in my account anyway. I received a paper mail again saying they will cancel my insurance if I don't start paying. I called them again regarding this issue raging about the situation. So happens, the representative entered the wrong account number. Now, I'm 4 payments behind since the first month is a double. I gave them my account number again and agreed to get the money at the end of the month. They decided to take 5 payments instead of 4 when the fifth one wasn't due for another 3 weeks. I'm only 23, so I have everything on the budget plus I have other bills too. I make sure I have enough funds on my account for all the pre-authorized payments, but they messed up! My account is negative and the extra money they took was supposed to be for a different bill. I'm getting a bad credit 'cause of them! I asked for a refund, but they said they'd rather not 'cause it takes 21 business days to get the refund which my next payment is due anyway. Who knows if they're gonna take another payment again for this month when they said they won't. THEY'RE ALL LIARS! Their system is messed up! The representatives always say "They don't know". Hire better people and have better communication. I am so moving to a different company. I don't even know why they keep sending me a new pink copy every month? The start and expiry date always get updated every month. I don't remember getting a new one every month from my dad's policy.
I read the reviews here and just shook my head and laughed. I have been with Belairdirect for going on seven years now. Never had an issue with them as I had with some other well known insurance companies.
In fact, six months after getting my insurance a freak accident happened where a container door swung open and dented the top of my car door while I was at work. The owner of the container transport company wanted to offer me $250.00 not to put it through insurance. Well it cost way over that to get it fixed and the car was only six months old too.
My claim was taken care of right away, the car fixed within two weeks and insurance rates didn't go up. In fact I was called back to see if I was happy with the repairs done to my car.
I also moved from a very good area to a not so good area and that I will admit, but the rent was a heck of a lot cheaper. My insurance did go up $45.00, but then was reduced later since a park in a indoor secure garage. I called other insurance companies and man they wanted $400 and more for the same coverage in the same area. And since there was a claim put in for the door, well that upped the price more so.
I have had insurance with four other companies, even the good hands people. Believe me when I say, you don't want to put a claim in with those companies!
I have no complaints with this company whatsoever and my partner switched to them as well and she is saving $200 and somewhat compared to her other insurance company. Which by the way called her and tried to offer her a sweeter deal of $50 off of that $200. LOL
If you are not happy with a Insurance company, then go some place else. There are tons of them out there that will gladly take your money. Oh and being passed through to four adjusters is nothing... lol Try seven with someone else and then being kept on the phone waiting for 20 minutes only to hear click and a dial tone!
Say what you want about Belairdirect, I for one am happy with them!
they are cheap insurance and i now see why.
they determined me at fault for a no visibility due to weather accident.
they then said i could appeal up to a year from being found at fault.
then i tried to appeal it they said you can either have insurance or not.
i now(5 months later) get a call notifying me my policy will not be renewed,
thanks ass hats.
you really have insurance until you need it.
careful the second you use it you will pay for it in everyday possible.
you get what you pay for.
highly not recommended.
Belair just raised our liability premium 66 % without justification. This vehicle is not used for work because we are retired. Just around town with total km's per year around 3000. Our government is letting insurance companies do whatever they please. I will never deal with this company again nor vote for a government that serves the insurance companies over their constituents
Did you know that on average Ontario drivers with good driving records pay $1,805/year in auto insurance? Is your insurance rate higher? Get a free car insurance quote and start saving today.
I have been a client since june 2007 and this insurance has been excellent in resolving my claim. Also i have checked around for cheaper insurance and no one has more bang for your buck than this company. So whoever has sour grapes you must be sour yourself.
I have been with Belair for a very long time for both home and auto. I have had a number of auto claims, mostly for glass, and have never had one single problem making a claim. The claims were handled professionally, quickly and fairly and my rates are still low. I definitely recommend Belair Insurance.
Happy customer for the last 8 years for auto and the last 4-5 years for renters insurance as well. Could not be happier with the overall great customer service and the great rates I get on my policies. Will always be a Belair Direct customer thanks guys!
If you have a good driving record in AB, you should pay around $110/month (women - $105/month and men - $113/month). Do you overpay? Get an Alberta car insurance quote to start saving.
Apart from a rep with less than exceptional english skills I was super surprised at how smoothly the cliams process went. When I got a quote for 100 less per month than RBC I thought for sure customer service would be wacko. Not bad at all...will update this post if anything changes.

I have been insured with Belair for 4 years now, and I have always had a good experience. At first it was just auto insurance as I was not a homeowner yet. The rates were the best and anytime I needed to make a change it was a piece of cake.
I was recently rear ended on the 401 and had my car written off. Overall, I was disappointed in the beginning as there was some confusion as to where I should have left my vehicle. I was told at the Toyota Collision center in Missisauga (that's where my accident was) and I leave it there and next day I was told it shouldn't have been left there... We still sorting things out as mistakes happen and I'm a forgiving person. At the end of the day as long as my car was to be fixed or pay-out of the car that was reasonable I would be happy.
After 9 days the claim was resolved and was determined a write off. I got a fair market value for my car. A 2007 Acura CSX. I paid $15,000 for it 5 years ago and my payout was $7487. All in all, they took care of the situation.
It kind of surprises me how much of a negative reputation the insurance industry has. My experiences with any services are is to treat whoever you are dealing with respect and a nice attitude. If you don't like what you hear calmly explain why, and think about your reasoning as well, maybe you are the one with your head in the clouds.
Great job guys. I have recently got home insurance with you as well as I just purchased my first house. I will definitely recommend to others as I have been in the past.
Cheers,
Sebastian
