After being with this company since 2015, I have nothing positive to say.
Two instances of them not billing me correctly. Two instances of them trying to cancel my insurance as a result without emailing or calling me. Not to mention terrible amounts I pay as someone who has never had an accident, ticket, anything, somehow I was paying 30$ more per month than my boyfriend who is with another company who has had an accident and several tickets.
I would not recommend this company to anyone.
Customer service very unwilling to help. Terrible experience

They charged me $2,000 for a year of insurance but according to their app and the government of Ontario, my insurance policy doesn’t exist.

BAIT & SWITCH
I did an online quote with Belairdirect for car insurance. I got a rate of $117.33 per month and email confirmation of this rate. Then I called them today (spoke with JS) to ask one question and proceed... EVERYTHING was verified and the info I gave them over the phone 100% the same as I put in when getting a quote online. However, they told me the rate would actually be $156 per month???? I FIND THIS EXTREMELY DISHONEST!!

Next,, they raised my insurance every month I was with them and make me pay higher premiums at one point they tripled my rate because the postal code changes of my address locations (moved from Guelph to Toronto) The rate went from 170 to 480. Now that is ridiculous. After another 20 phone calls, they did not offer to stick to the lower rate and only offered to cancel my premium for an extra charge and this would affect my insurance history negatively.

I have been with Belair for 7 years. The first 2 years, my rates were decent and it has continued to increase since that time. No accidents nor tickets. I got my renewal documents and guess what?! My rates were increased despite people driving less because of COVID. I got coverage elsewhere and they are charging me $100/ month less than what Belair was going to charge me. Recommend people to shop elsewhere!

I called just to inquire if I could insure my vehicle for personal business, they put me on hold for 10 minutes and then told me they cancelled my insurance policy completely because they don’t offer business insurance. I have a good standing record with them for 15 years and they pull this stunt. Words can’t describe my hate for that company. A simple inquiry and completely cut off left to find someone else. Also, their website has a section where you can select “business use” in the edit section of your policy. Total misleading. Please just NEVER do business with them. They are overpriced for what you get anyway. I’m actually glad they cancelled me because I’m getting way cheaper offers from other more respectable companies.

I was involved in an accident in the left rear corner of my vehicle while stopped. Belairdirect accused me of re-entering the main road and set the decision at 50/50 fault until I provided pictures and spent hours on the phone and threatened legal action. After it was determined I was not at fault at all, they completely undervalued my vehicle and the extra add ons. They offered me a bit over $100 for trailer hitch, braking control systems, and the remote start which cost me over $1500 alone for purchase and installation. Going back and forth for a while and they would not even use my own appraisal for my vehicle. Been a driver with a clean record for over 10 years with them and was treated like this. I called to add a vehicle to my present insurance company. It seems they don't want to deal with customers except through the internet. Tough to do if you don't have access to the internet.
After a long wait, I spoke to an agent who did not speak clearly and who did not really seem to know very much about adding a vehicle to my present insurance.
After 48 minutes I lost contact. I am going to be looking for another insurer...

Cancelled my policy with no notification... It is 2021 make a system that properly notifies customers via email or SMS to mobile # on file. Mailing out invoices to the wrong address is exactly why this happened. Also, the lack of moral ethics in BelairDirect to cancel any policy with a customer during a global pandemic is absolutely shameful.

It used to be a pleasure to deal with Belair's call centre. Staff were knowledgeable and gave good service. In the last two years however, it has deteriorated terribly. Staff have little insurance knowledge, or interest in service, and just want to fill in blanks.
Filing a complaint is no good either because that just results in rude harassing telephone calls from the complaints department.
I have found a local broker who provides good personal service and the rates are actually cheaper.
