Cancelled w/out warning

by Nic on Aug 31, 2017
2 out of 5 stars

After 4 years of insurance with no claims or cancellations, through a miscommunication of wire payments between banks, I missed 2 payments. Let me express that this was 2 payments in 4 years (to put this is perspective, out of 48 payments I missed 2 - or 4% delinquency). Meanwhile, my home insurance, which was being paid out of my new bank was paid no problem. The only warning I received from Belair was registered mail (not signed for) that I received while on vacation. No phone call, follow-up email, nothing. My insurance was cancelled while I continued to drive for up to a week. I cannot believe the lack of customer support or service, and fully believe this is reckless on their part. While I accept I was disorganised with the payment, more should have been done to collect the missed payment and contact me to see if there was a problem - this could have been rectified IMMEDIATELY. I am mostly upset that I drove my family uninsured, I will never use this service again and would rather pay more elsewhere for better service.

Traumatizing experience

by belairdirectclientsurvivor on Aug 12, 2017
2.5 out of 5 stars

I was involved in a collision in which, as it turned out, I was not at fault for the collision in which I was involved. However, the claims department did an extremely poor job at investigating the claim (if that can be called an investigation at all) and they ended up assigning to me the wrong fault determination rule, making me 100%. I spoke with my adjuster, other frontline agents and even supervisors and all seem to be one worst than the other, one more contemptuous than the other. In the end, I had to take the court route to get some justice and that yielded the expected results. The company seems to be dysfunctional from the beginning to the end, it's not just an issue of one rogue employee; it's systemic.

Drove it There, Towed it Home.

Not Impressed. Belairdirect goes out of their way to market themselves toward students and those who are on tight budgets via promotions like their student discount however their service reflects nothing of the sort. I was in an accident that was not my fault and after being treated like a criminal by the ASSURED Mississauga representative my insurance company sent me to the Belairdirect test and repair centre for a more “polished” experience, they said. It was awesome that when I got to the centre the staff was great at kissing my ass and pretending like they cared about my negative experience. It is unfortunate that none of those niceties could fix my car. Instead, it sat at their office for more than three weeks before they decided to touch it, suddenly; miraculously, the car would not turn on. My trusty insurance company then proceeded to call me to let me know that they were not responsible for my car not starting and wanted to charge me upwards of $1,000 worth of “non-accident related damage.” When I responded with questions – the brain dead staff resembled something of a broken record player repeating, “you are responsible to cover this damage as it is not accident related, your total is…” (pretty cold for a company that markets towards people with low income). When I explained that this was not a possibility for me at that time, they agreed to tow my car home. I find it hilarious that I drove my car there to be fixed and now it is being towed back in WORSE condition than when it started. Cherry on top: They took the rental back and had misplaced my car. I had to walk to work at 5 am for over a week without a vehicle while making car payments for a car I couldn’t even fix or use because the insurance company continued to make broken promises of when they would be contacting me to bring my car home. My car was finally returned to me over a week left with parts they damaged sitting on and staining my passenger side seat. What is the point of paying for insurance if they lose and break the very thing you are trying to insure. biggest scam i have ever been involved in in my entire life. If the goal was for me to walk away without a shred of faith in humanity, the company did their job of not caring! Silver lining: thank you to Belairdirect for making me realize I can make it through life without my car and it is worth every second I save not dealing with their garbage.

Did you know that on average Ontario drivers with good driving records pay $1,805/year in auto insurance? Is your insurance rate higher? Get a free car insurance quote and start saving today.

Very expensive!! Not at all worth it. Auto merit is a joke. So much for grey power.

Belair Direct Never again

by Pissedoff on Feb 4, 2017
2 out of 5 stars

Anyone thinking of obtaining their policies from this company should really shop around. I use Clicassure on line. They operate with multiple insurance companies. Once you filled out your online forms, you will receive a minimum of three quotes.
I did this and discovered that for exactly the same coverage for my car and house, I was saving 1 000$ a year. I was with Belair Direct for 25 years. That means that I gave them 25,000$ of my hard earned money.
Plus when I told them that I was cancelling my policies with them, they told me that there was a service charge for doing this.
NEVER AGAIN. I told my wife that there was reason for their constant TV advertising. If a company does good business, their advertising is done by word of mouth.....

Shafted

I was insured with Belairdirect for 13 years with multiple vehicles and home insurance. The last few years with (4) vehicles so they were pulling some good coin from me every month; My son slid into the ditch Jan 28, 2013 from an ice storm and had a small fender-bender in a mall parking lot in 2015. So they cancelled my insurance - well THANK YOU !
Their "rules" are (2) "at fault" claims and you're OUT ! regardless of the circumstances and I kinda get that. BUT from a dollar-value I was worth it and still am with (4) vehicles & Home Ins. So I cancelled my home insurance with them Sept 28 2016 and have new auto insurance. THAT'S CHEAPER ! so THANK YOU BELAIRDIRECT for cancelling my insurance you are saving me money...who knew :). If my son had (2) "chargeable" at-fault accidents I would get that a little more.

If you have a good driving record in AB, you should pay around $110/month (women - $105/month and men - $113/month). Do you overpay? Get an Alberta car insurance quote to start saving.

they are cheap insurance and i now see why.
they determined me at fault for a no visibility due to weather accident.
they then said i could appeal up to a year from being found at fault.
then i tried to appeal it they said you can either have insurance or not.
i now(5 months later) get a call notifying me my policy will not be renewed,
thanks ass hats.
you really have insurance until you need it.
careful the second you use it you will pay for it in everyday possible.
you get what you pay for.
highly not recommended.

The automerit is horrible

by w95 on Apr 21, 2016
2.5 out of 5 stars

They make it seem like the Automerit program is a technological breakthrough but it's just a dumb device that records your speed. The software that analyzes the data determines if your speed increased or decreased quickly within 1 second and penalizes you accordingly. It's such a methodotical approach with absolutely no customization. It's not enough that they treat their customers like numbers... They should open their eyes and realize that drivers brake and accelerate on a daily basis without any risks. The Automerit program is like having a driving instructor looking at a spreadsheet at home and criticizing your driving.

criminal records

by Jailbird on Dec 28, 2015
2.5 out of 5 stars

I had just recently got a criminal record and to my surprise Belair decided they can't insure me because "people with criminal records have a higher risk of making claims". That is the most disgusting superficial thing I've ever heard. My criminal record has NOTHING to do with driving and they still decide not to insure me. Anyways stay away they're to expensive and have pretty dumb policies...it's more of a circus then a business

STAY AWAY

I was involved in an accident where I was evidently not at fault. Sent them photos to prove it as well. Not only they condemned me to being partially at fault and destroyed my clean driving records, but after 10 years of being their royal costumer, they totally disregarded their "no premium change after first at fault accident" and increased my premium by 2.5 times.
