crooks DO NOT GO WITH THEM!

by catab on Nov 2, 2016

Our neighbors toddler while having a tantrum threw her bottle of milk over the balcony. The bottle landed on our windshield, smashing it. The neighbor was very apologetic and offered to pay all the expenses, including the deductibles. When I told the insurance agent about this, he said he doesn't care - he did his job of fixing the windshield. In the meantime, we still ended up with 250$ bill. After years of appalling service we tried to cancel the insurance with them and Desjardins is charging us cancellation fees! What a bunch of crooks!

More than a scam

My car was hit while parked by a drunk driver. The police got the drunk driver and submitted all the papers and testimony to our insurance company. Of course, the accident was not our fault. However, Desjardins was insisting that there was no proof that it really was the drunk driver who hit our car - they had to wait until they got the court judgement confirming it really was that driver who hit our car.
Meanwhile, our car was parked at a garage (charging us about 30$ a day), even if it was a complete loss and scrap material - Desjardins insisted we kept it (and not to throw it away for scrap), so there was still proof of the accident. About 2 and a half months later, after many lawsuit threats, screams, and compulsive calling to them, they agreed to compensate us the 'value' of our car, which of course was super underpriced, and most of it went to pay for the parking fees we had accumulated (about 2500$).
total scam, and no one can/is doing anything about it! laws protect insurance crooks

Not insurance but avoidance

A car backed into me.
I was there; I got the drivers info.
I gave it to the adjuster
The adjuster did not look at my car but based his assessment on photos taken by the body shop.
Would support replacement of my door with a used door. I explained that this is a unique car, stored each winter and rust free. Would I get a rust free door? “ A used door. We only buy new when we can’t find used” When can you not find used these days? I can see it if it’s a Honda Civic but a ‘classic’ car does not have the same criteria used. Could not care less. That’s why I could not care less about staying with this company.
After 33 years of no claim house insurance; 41 years of no claim car insurance, this is not what I have paid hundreds of thousands of dollars worth of coverage for. I’m taking my $8500 a year policy to someone else.

If you have a good driving record in AB, you should pay around $110/month (women - $105/month and men - $113/month). Do you overpay? Get an Alberta car insurance quote to start saving.

Beware if you have a claim

Been with the company for 40 years, Auto and Home Insurance. Had my first auto accident claim and it has been a nightmare. Desjardin hires independent companies as adjustors whose primary purpose is to deny claims. These adjustors will treat you like a criminal even when there is a legitimate claim. Really disappointed, what is the point is paying premiums for coverage because when you need help the most Desjardin does not want to help you!

Minus rating

It is so sad that Statefarm Canada was purchased by these robbers! I was a 30year client with Statefarm and have nothing but praise for the honor and integrity of that company. Fair, honest and easy to deal with. When I got notice of Des Jardin's buyout effective December 2015 I was aprehensive but but left my coverage with them for the past year. It has been a year of frustration and immense dissatisfaction. It ends today!
You see I had a minor accident last year. I backed into a car and the square part of my trailer hitch left a mark on the other guys bumper. Like a good dooby I called the claims number (no point in trying to deal with the local office cuz they don't do that anymore!) I told them what had happened BUT said that I doubted it would be much more than the deductible of $500.00. What? Guess that was the wrong move*# I'm honest and up front. Not so with these guys. The damage was just over $500... So NO CLAIM. That's what I thought, and what was confirmed by them when I called them back to say there was really no point in putting in a claim.
Today I was told that my phone call meant I had an "at fault accident". And my insurance was going up on this vehicle by $500.00! WTF!!! They paid out NOTHING! And I spent more time on hold than than they spent speaking with me! And we have three other vehicles insured with them so add it up folks and they would all have an increase. I feel insulted and very angry. But that's the way they do business. Complaints mean nothing to them. Even my local guy agreed that they were bad to deal with when there is a claim... A real claim that is.
I feel sorry for all the Statefarm guys that are now working for this unethical, rude and disrespectful company. After 30 years I'm gone. Of course I'll wait til March to pull two of the vehicles because the penalty is ridiculous if I cancell now. God forbid I have to deal with them in the meantime.
I can't say enough about how rotten they are. I will tell any one who will listen to run as fast and far as they can from them! (Wonder what it would be like if you had life insurance with them and you died? )
Wish I could send all these posts out to tell the world how dishonest and arragant this company is! Maybe I'll just send the like to everyone I know and all "their" email addresses I can find.

Ripping my hair out

Was involved in an accident in February. My car was deemed a total loss. It took 5 MONTHS to get a copy of my police report. I sent the docs needed to get it but they seemed to have disappeared and were never seen. So I sent them again. And again. Aaaand again. Finally they got them and my adjustor got my police report. According to the report I was 0% at fault and according to my policy I should be covered since it is not my fault. Right? WRONG!!! So wrong!!!!! My car was being held in storage so my rep called me and said they will only pay 1 cent to the towing company. So I was advised by my adjustor to scrap the car and use that for a payment. So I did as I was told and have my authorization to the towing co. Fast forward 5 months, I am now being penalized for following my adjustor's instructions. They are going to shave off 30% of total value of my car. I argued and argued with her, and got it down to 20%. I argued again that I only did what she told me to do. She put me on a long hold and came back and said that they will give me back the full cost of my car at the time of the accident. Great. Now I'm fighting tooth and nail for them to pay for my rental. According to my policy they will pay for a rental up to 2 days after I receive my settlement offer. Well I just received my offer 2 days ago and the rental was returned MONTHS ago.....and they are only willing to pay less than half of that. Awaiting a call from manager at this point. It's taken 6 months to get this resolved. This is ridiculous. Stay away. Save your nerves.

Just a waste of money

Worst insurance providers ever. I would give negative stars if I could.
They charge more than your monthly insurance rate as they withdraw your payments as they please on different days each month

Poor customer service

by Star on Sep 21, 2020

Desjardins have poor customer service. They don't train employees properly. For instance, they will give you a quote charging $130, and then they will charge $160 without even informing the user. Then charge money from another person's account without even informing. I think the customer service agent doesn't even understand English. I got a quote for $175 and now they started charging $300 without giving any notice. I just wish they would have spent a little to provide service to the customer instead of just thinking about profit.

Rip off

I canceled my policy 3 months ago to a professional provider Just this pas Monday they decided to take 3 months premium out of my account with zero notice I might add. I’ve been bounced around to 4 different people who have been useless to address this. Just short of being called a liar I’ve given up. They can keep the money it’s worth not having to being treated like a second class citizen. Purely pathetic and unprofessional from the very beginning.
