Not insurance but avoidance

by Just left for the others on Jul 11, 2016
1 out of 5 stars

A car backed into me.
I was there; I got the drivers info.
I gave it to the adjuster
The adjuster did not look at my car but based his assessment on photos taken by the body shop.
Would support replacement of my door with a used door. I explained that this is a unique car, stored each winter and rust free. Would I get a rust free door? “ A used door. We only buy new when we can’t find used” When can you not find used these days? I can see it if it’s a Honda Civic but a ‘classic’ car does not have the same criteria used. Could not care less. That’s why I could not care less about staying with this company.
After 33 years of no claim house insurance; 41 years of no claim car insurance, this is not what I have paid hundreds of thousands of dollars worth of coverage for. I’m taking my $8500 a year policy to someone else.

Minus rating

It is so sad that Statefarm Canada was purchased by these robbers! I was a 30year client with Statefarm and have nothing but praise for the honor and integrity of that company. Fair, honest and easy to deal with. When I got notice of Des Jardin's buyout effective December 2015 I was aprehensive but but left my coverage with them for the past year. It has been a year of frustration and immense dissatisfaction. It ends today!
You see I had a minor accident last year. I backed into a car and the square part of my trailer hitch left a mark on the other guys bumper. Like a good dooby I called the claims number (no point in trying to deal with the local office cuz they don't do that anymore!) I told them what had happened BUT said that I doubted it would be much more than the deductible of $500.00. What? Guess that was the wrong move*# I'm honest and up front. Not so with these guys. The damage was just over $500... So NO CLAIM. That's what I thought, and what was confirmed by them when I called them back to say there was really no point in putting in a claim.
Today I was told that my phone call meant I had an "at fault accident". And my insurance was going up on this vehicle by $500.00! WTF!!! They paid out NOTHING! And I spent more time on hold than than they spent speaking with me! And we have three other vehicles insured with them so add it up folks and they would all have an increase. I feel insulted and very angry. But that's the way they do business. Complaints mean nothing to them. Even my local guy agreed that they were bad to deal with when there is a claim... A real claim that is.
I feel sorry for all the Statefarm guys that are now working for this unethical, rude and disrespectful company. After 30 years I'm gone. Of course I'll wait til March to pull two of the vehicles because the penalty is ridiculous if I cancell now. God forbid I have to deal with them in the meantime.
I can't say enough about how rotten they are. I will tell any one who will listen to run as fast and far as they can from them! (Wonder what it would be like if you had life insurance with them and you died? )
Wish I could send all these posts out to tell the world how dishonest and arragant this company is! Maybe I'll just send the like to everyone I know and all "their" email addresses I can find.

Horrible

Horrible customer service. Unorganized charged me for a higher rate then discussed over the phone. I had to review tapes to confirm. The claims department is a disaster. Took 5 months to get my car back after a claim. Late in sending renewal papers.

Did you know that on average Ontario drivers with good driving records pay $1,805/year in auto insurance? Is your insurance rate higher? Get a free car insurance quote and start saving today.

GREEDY COMPANY!

I have no insurance claims, no traffic violations and my 9-year-old car valuation were worth 4500. Yet, this insurance company increase my policy from 210 a month to 270 a month! Find another insurance provider.

STAY AWAY STAY AWAY STAY AWAY

by CharlesJJ on Dec 21, 2018

This insurance company now posing as “State Farm” is malicious and god awful. Stay away as far as possible. I had a horrible advisor for claims, who has a short temper and a criminal record; still working for Desjardins. He took over two months to look at my vehicle and I was left without a car for 8 months. He threatened to not pay and cover for ANYTHING (rental, parking, car) due to the fact that I was catching him in his lies and insurance antics. All until I spoke with his manager and stated that I was going to sue them. They will try to exclude things in accidents to save themselves every penny possible. THEY WILL PLAY DUMB AND MAKE THINGS CONFUSING. NEVER TAKE THE FIRST OFFER. Be persistent if you care about your vehicle. Make them pay for everything. Include things that weren’t even a part of the accident to make them pay. They deserve it. I’ve been paying insurance for 10 years and on my first accident they can barely cough up $3000. They ended up paying $36,000 in repair parts + rental car fees + workshop parking + labour because they were too stubborn to believe that my car (a 2016 AUDI A8) was a write-off; initially OFFERING ME A $3000 ESTIMATE. This insurance company DOES NOT follow the forgiveness accident policy that State Farm adopts; and if you are with State Farm, YOUR INSURANCE WILL INCREASE DRAMATICALLY. EVEN IF THE ACCIDENTS WERE NOT YOUR FAULT! STAY AWAY.

Rude agents on phone

by vikas56 on Nov 5, 2017
1.5 out of 5 stars

I had a horrendous experience with a Desjardins agent on the phone, when I inquired as to why my insurance had been arbitrarily jacked up in the middle of a term. She was very controlling and rude and . It is my money that I am paying and need to know where it is going. When the time for renewal came up, I took my business elsewhere.

Do not go with Desjardins!!

As my car and home insurance was rising, I got a quote much cheaper than desjardan. My child got her G2 i called to inform them, and even though she went to a driving school, Desjardans does NOT offer a discount for this, it cost an extra $880 a year for her, my other insurance company, it was an extra $500 for my other daughter, I complained, they said basically too bad! Nothing I could do. I noticed they deducted way more from my account, would total about $1300 a year, complained, they called me and said they reviewed the tape and told me I was told in the conversation it would be $1300 a year, what a bunch of liars!! can not wait to leave them, and I haven't been with them even a year!! Worst insurance company I have ever had!!

Least proffesional out there!

by Exhausted ExCustomer on Jul 20, 2016

This company has made over 5 mistakes in Billing over the course of 2 years, in which they've had to be credits my NSF fees due to their own acknowledgement of having messed up.
Speaking to a customer service representative, you have to be very specific for them to make notes about what you spoke about as they will not follow through with what they've said... It's very strange how such a big company can make so many errors. They don't listen to customers at all.
Switching companies also saved me $80/month for an 08 Land Rover driven in Toronto.
Insurers beware, there are better insurance companies out there.

If you have a good driving record in AB, you should pay around $110/month (women - $105/month and men - $113/month). Do you overpay? Get an Alberta car insurance quote to start saving.
