Plenty of insurance on paper : no money to back it up.

by Tomp on Feb 29, 2024
1 out of 5 stars

Have replacement cost homeowners insurance with no depreciation. Had lightening strike with attic fire and extensive water damage from fire department. Allstate is offering me less than half of what it will cost to put the home back to pre-fire condition. I have dwelling insured for 3 times the amount they are offering. We are now 6 months post incident and adjuster is not willing to budge.

Renewal policy

The worst insurance company I have ever dealt with in my life, extremely unprofessional. I gave them enough notice not to renew my home insurance. They are asking for 3 months premium after I informed them already not to renew.

Keep billing after I no long have the home

by HiD on Mar 27, 2022
1 out of 5 stars

It has been 4 months since I owned the home they are billing me for (insurance). I informed them prior to the move. Called, emailed, begged… etc. But no one will remove/stop billing me. I even gave them a copy of the sale. The agent Luz (Adriana) in Etobicoke never returns calls or emails. The 1-800 is useless. Tell me now that time has passed they need other authorization to refund but the supervisor never calls me back. RUN FROM ALLSTATE

Very Poor Customer Service

by Joanne on Nov 12, 2021
1 out of 5 stars

We paid the premium by mail and they said they didn't receive the cheque however they did receive the cheque. I was then made to pay their bill by cc and they proceeded to cash the cheque even though there was a huge note on my file to tear up the cheque. It is now almost one month later and I still have not received my money back. This was almost 4 thousand dollars so it is a big deal and they are unaccountable for their error and do not even respond to telephone and e-mail. Very frustrated and will be shopping for insurance elsewhere for sure. DO NOT RECOMMEND

Reprehensible

by Previous Aviva client on Mar 23, 2021

Cancelled our homeowner's insurance due to renovation on the home, which we were upfront about. Has not provided us with any information on what is required in order for us to get the insurance coverage reinstated. We have been asking the same questions for almost two months, and still don’t have answers. Don’t use these guys if you plan on doing any form of work on your house, or you will end up with no insurance coverage at all.

What a farce

by ByebyeTD on Nov 25, 2020

I have tried for a couple of days now to reach TD Insurance to upgrade from a renter's insurance to a homeowner's insurance. Every day, after being on hold for about 4h (!!!) yes, 4h on hold (!!!), the call drops. Really?? Today I had enough, I called 3 competitors. Guess what? 0 wait time, they picked right away!! I was amazed...although I guess this is simply good service, I'm no longer used to this with TD. Interestingly, one was the insurance company of another leading bank and when I said that I had insurance presently, but that I had trouble just to reach their customer service, the rep said without hesitation, with a smile in the voice: ''Oh you're with TD? Yeah, we gets tons of customers looking to switch from them''. Wow, just wow... As of now, I'm no longer a customer thank you very much.

THE WORST CLIENT SERVICE EVER

by Robert Costenaro, Eng. on Nov 20, 2020
1 out of 5 stars

Fed up of calling this company, waiting hours on the phone listening to obnoxious music!
Been client for over 25 years.
3 renewals ongoing with increases of between 27 to 40 % !!!
Had a small incident at home, insurance up 40%.
I called another insurer, got great service & counsel. Planning to go to them for my cars.
The website is painful! It doesn't include all my policies, where are the others.
Sent me 2 copies of the same policy! Seems the computer system not working!
If I could give 0 stars I would.

30% Increase

by Peter H on Apr 6, 2020
1.5 out of 5 stars

I just got off the phone with Allstate. They raised my home insurance 30%. They confirmed there were no claims, no requested improvements to coverage. Point blank they cited INFLATION. In Canada, the inflation rate is 2%. Lie to my face they did. STAY AWAY FROM ALLSTATE!

They owe me money

by DavidD on Feb 24, 2020
1.5 out of 5 stars

If you’re in the Sudbury region you should consider going elsewhere from my experience. I sold my house in May 2019 and as of today, I am still waiting for money that I am owed. THAT’S not even the big issue. I never claimed the policy that I paid for about 10 years. About 6 or 7 years ago I became the sole owner and continued with the policy but, did not remove the former spouse's name from it. I tried... but became frustrated after not satisfying them with the paperwork they required. Attempts were made by me but I soon lost focus on the whole thing and just carried on with payments with her on the policy. Ok, MY BAD. Once the property sold and I reported it to the Allstate office, and the paperwork demands began. Disregarding the notices from my lawyer, the property tax papers, and I don’t recall WHAT else I had as proof that I was sole owner, they demanded paperwork that the Purchaser’s lawyer retains in a transaction. After MONTHS of asking my lawyer to get this and being ignored by them ( I even contacted the buyers lawyer to no avail ), I finally lost my temper and with a raised voice and nasty words, I received the paperwork and forwarded it to the Allstate office ( I moved to S.Ontario, so personally running around wasn’t possible). Finally, I was told the cheque would be issued after 4 weeks... in case there are any OTHER problems. WHAT!? Eight weeks go by.... bla bla bla... The cheque finally made it but, after all of this, It was issued in my AND THE X’S name. Useless to me. They made apologies and said they’d reissue it. 4 or 5 weeks later, Nothing. I sent an email mid-December and got automated out of office reply. It’s Christmas, I’ll wait till January. I sent my rep and the branch manager an email. Nothing. Friday, January 17 sent them both another email stating I was at the end of my patience. As of today, Nothing! Nothing from them at all. No answer or cheque. It’s not the money. I want this off of my To-Do List. EVERY WEEK since May. My patience would be in much better shape over it all if someone had only EXPLAINED the WHY’S? WHY was THAT paperwork needed when so much other was provided? WHY did it matter that Her name was still in the policy? I’m cancelling, not making any claim that takes money out of their business. IF it had been explained to me properly with the WHY’S, I’d have likely operated differently. Instead, I’ve been made to feel like a scam artist attempting to get away with something. After continued emails and calls that have been ignored, it is February 24, 2020, and STILL no money and STILL being ignored.

I got a quote and paid. Then the agent told me the price will be doubled. I asked to cancel the policy, the agent said ok. But never refund me! What kind of company!!! I submitted online complain form from www.allstate.ca and also sent email to ombudsman but never get a response, even confirmation email!
