I was a 12-year client, insuring my home and cars without shopping around. I phoned around for other quotes this year. I found out Allstate has been charging me twice as much as the others, for less insurance.
I called and asked why. They said they cannot answer that, the prices are determined by their central office.
We had a home policy setup on a rental property and were advised 6 months after they collected premiums and a property inspection were completed that they were cancelling our policy due to the square footage of the property. We called the customer service centre who advised that they would overlook the square footage requirement , but there were numerous findings from their inspection that needed to be addressed, some of which could have threatened the health and safety of our tenants. However, they couldn't provide a copy of the report or give us specific details to remedy the situation. We had to escalate our concerns to the Ombudsman who then had to go to the Underwriting area to see if they could clarify what the issues were, all while our tenants could have been in danger. After countless phone calls they offered us a small discount on our home property but still expected us to invest additional time and money into addressing concerns they knew about when the property was originally insured. Allstate has a disastrous customer service team, they provided us with horrible and misleading communications, and wasted an enormous amount of our time. Unfortunately, they don't appear to be aware that there are countless competitors on the market perfectly willing to collect premiums from us.
They ask for too many things, even if I can prove them they are the only company asking for that. My house is brand new and garanteed for 5 years, but they still ask me to modify it, even if I have a recent inspection report saying that it's fine.
For refund, after a 2 months service, they kept 40% of the annual fees.
Really disappointing.
I'm a first time home buyer in Nanaimo, the house was actually pretty new which was built in 2009, had no problem with I until last year. I went on a trip and lost my suit case which I was considering claim under my home insurance. Trying to get some information on how to do it, and what is going to happen with my premium, never got back to me on time. About 8 month later( claim still not resolved, and the claim was not even officially made ) right before my policy due date I got a emailing saying they are not offering my house insurance, called back ask for reason , got kicked around for the reason that no one can access my file, at the end of the day, nothing responded. Either way, I'm not going to stay with this insurance company . And I highly advise anyone who is buying a house , do not go with them .

After using this company for at least 20 years without one claim they charged me $258.00 for not renewing with them. I found cheaper insurance $800.00 cheaper. They even sent it to a collection agency I would never do business with them again!
