Terrible customer service

by M&J on Mar 5, 2019
1 out of 5 stars

From Southwestern Ontario/Windsor area: I have never filed a claim with them. My experience is completely with their customer service. Initially, when we signed up, our agent was professional, helpful and courteous. The problem comes when you need to call their service line for anything. My wife was the victim of bank fraud and had to close her bank account because of it. All of our auto-debits set for that account were changed with one call or email - easy enough. Not the same with Allstate. I gave them a week's notice for the auto-debit on our home insurance policy when our bank account was closed. It didn't matter - we were faced with an NSF fee, interrupted payment schedule that could not be remedied over the phone/email like everyone else, and were told to make consecutive payments via credit card or pay the yearly balance in full to avoid penalty. The crazy thing is, my Allstate auto insurance debits out of the same account that I had provided for them to use for the home insurance going forward (which had been debiting from my wife's account until now). Apparently, that's too difficult. To top it off, the representatives are rude and are not helpful at all. There's no dialogue or problem-solving. I was talked at, not with. Don't call them and expect to get anywhere except closer to a brain aneurysm. I will be switching ASAP - it may help to know that I normally am very easy-going and will generally stay in a less-than-pleasant business situation just because it's usually too much of a hassle to bother shopping around. Not this time. Do yourself a favour - shop somewhere else. Even if it's more expensive - I would pay 25% more just so that when I need something from them, I don't want to throw my phone at the wall.

Claim Refused

by jrhoja on Jun 6, 2018

In 2017, my balcony fell to the ground because of heavy snow and bad construction unknown to me. I understand the reasoning behind the refusal to pay. However, unforgivable was the service I received. They said an adjuster was on his way, and when he never showed up after a week and several phone calls, they told me they were very very busy with recent floods, and told me to do the work, take pictures and send to them. I refused to do their work, a few words were exchanged, we were not on good terms, and finally, they sent someone to check the cottage and the adjuster more or less condemned my cottage without seeing the interior. He advised the Allstate to not insure my place, which had just been renovated. The veranda was scheduled for the following year. So Allstate cancelled my insurance which was due to expire and never notified me. I had a hard time to get insurance and when I did, it cost me approx. $700. More per year for a seasonal (6 mo.) Cottage worth less than $100,000. We are NOT in Good hands with Allstate

subzero customer service

I had been insured with Allstate for over 15 years. Car and home insurance. Terrible irresponsible customer service. First, they recorded that I filed a claim when I didn't get a single cent and had told them that I didn't wish to proceed with a claim. Their premium for home insurance is much higher than their competitor such as Desjardins for equal coverage. Allstate also wants to control the amount of payout. I've also had experience with customers representative who wanted to pressure me into renewing rather than looking into the problems that I had raised. AVOID ALLSTATE.

Canadians pay, on average, approximately $20 per month in tenants insurance. Do you rent or plan to rent a property and want to reduce insurance costs? We will help you get a cheap tenant insurance quote today.

dishonest

I had insurance with Allstate for 7 years. They increased my home insurance rates without my knowledge. They then promised to lower them and did so in writing only to turn around at renewal and deny coverage, saying I had claims that I did not. I appealed to management but did not get a response. Terrible customer service and disrespectful! Do not choose this company!

Unfair

Allstate refuses to pay damages to my flat roof, claims ice/wind storm did not cause it. We had rains and storms before and nothing happened to my roof. It's common sense that if there is ice rain, it would damage somewhere along the way. Water leaked into my home, damaged my tiles and carpets. Allstate is claiming tiles can't be damaged by water, subflooring was swollen, so of course, there are cracks. Who keeps receipts for carpets, they don't want to compensate for that. Why bother having insurance coverage then? What a rip-off. This company is horrible. I never made a claim in over 10 years. This is the first. People, Allstate is not a nice company to be insured under. Too many bad experiences and reviews.

If you care about your wallet, do not use Allstate. These are pieces of human filth incarnate who will expressly waste your time, lie to you, and generally treat you like you're not worth their time. This company doesn't fight for you. They just want your money

Two months and still not paid

NEVER USE ALLSTATE! I am attempting to resolve a claim with Allstate and it’s one of the worst experiences I’ve had. I bought a Chevrolet car and it came with roadside assistance. When the car failed to start one morning, I had roadside assistance come to my home to tow it. A cable broke on the tow truck and it damaged my driveway and carport. Chevy is insured by Allstate, so I made my claim with them. I promptly furnished an estimate and have had over 20 email and phone communications with Nathan S. and Rodney N. in an attempt to get the repairs to my home. My driveway has several deep gouges and scratches. Because it’s coloured concrete, it’s impossible to simply patch (the red colour, faded by the sun for a decade, cannot be matched). The repair estimate is $6,000. After a week, Allstate offered to pay $500. As we disputed the claim, I asked S. to help me understand whether Allstate disagreed that the concrete could not be matched or if Allstate felt I should accept a visibly patched driveway. He refused to answer, so I asked him again: “Would you please answer my question. A or B. A. You believe that the concrete can be repaired to match. B. You believe I should accept a repair that shows a mismatched patch. I will send a photo showing the damage again so you understand it is not only two sections.” His terse reply was: “We will pay to fix only the damaged area of the driveway. You have turned in one estimate at this time. Will not pay the estimate you sent in for a complete driveway replacement. I am leaving it at that.” After another phone call and after I called Chevrolet, I received this email from S.: “From: S., Nathan Sent: Wednesday, November 01, 2017 11:25 AM Subject: RE: XXX driveway Done and paid” That was the complete email. But when I didn’t receive a check after two weeks, I inquired. S. answered: “From: S., Nathan Sent: Tuesday, November 14, 2017 11:44 AM Subject: RE: xxx driveway I was just made aware that I had sent you an email that states "done and paid". That is not on your case. I am very sorry about that but your case is under review with GM as well as management above me. Sorry for the confusion and we will update you as soon as we have an update on your case. I also don’t just email "done and paid" to customers. Any Email I send will have more context than that regardless if it is a denial or an approval.” Yes, seriously. That’s what he sent. Since that date, I asked to speak to a supervisor but S. refused. I asked, again, my original question about whether Allstate thinks I should accept a visibly patched driveway or if they don’t believe the colour can be matched but they refused to answer. I asked what Allstate’s standard for claim processing is and did not get a direct answer. It’s going on two months now and I’m no closer to getting my house fixed. Worst insurance company ever.

They did not cover the windows, the floors. They only covered the damage that they had caused by destroying the walls. It is a very bad insurance company. Stay away!!!

My family purchase every 10,000$ cars and houses insurance in Calgary and when you have a claim in hail damage in Jun/2020 they are giving you the hard time. And they don’t want to pay at all. Please, go somewhere else!

Premium Increase 28%

by Unreasonable Premium Increase on Jun 6, 2020
1 out of 5 stars

It is very frustrating that the rates keep on going up in Alberta. My 2020 renewal went up 28%, and these increases have been fairly consistent year over year. Inflation of 28% while Albertans are in the midst of the biggest recession. I have no words to explain this frustration. Very disappointed. I have been with Allstate since 2013 and I have never had an insurance claim. I was warned by some people that this is what the company does, gives good rates to start and then increase unreasonably the rates year-over-year. Research and shop around if you have time.
