Awful coverage

I had been with ING for years and years and actually had my claim with them. I had a break-in and the adjustor was there within an hour and worked with me to get necessary items quickly. The break-in didn't even leave any shoes or cleaning supplies - they cleaned the place out. A few years later I had a flood from a really quick thaw. All work done quickly and professionally.
Rates went up when they changed to Intact, and I haven't been as happy with the service, but only minor things like trying to get policy information by phone - no claims with them.
However, I do see that all the reviews were very good until 2012, when they dropped like a rocket. What on earth happened? New management?
I have sued intact insurance we are still in court, they are insuring a premise where I got injured, my injuries were very serious, I sued 20 months ago, still waiting, no answer, stalling and consuming time, knowing the extent of my injuries and my disability and incapacity and my health has been destroyed and my life has been wrecked and i am so much in debt at an early age and they are still stalling. I hate this insurance company, the ethics of the non humans working in it, their money hungry greedy lawyers, this is sick.
They are running my life to the ground.
Waiting and waiting and benefiting from from this despicable justice system delaying hearings and stretching the claim.
I feel sick every time I hear INTACT insurance
All they're good at is collecting money, bunch of remorseless heartless ppl
We had a home and cottage insured with Intact. When we started renting the home through AirBnB, they dropped us, offering us an alternative that the agent advised us no to accept, one reason being that the coverage was next to nil. We were able to obtain a regular home owners policy from State Farm, with some conditions on our rental activity.
As for the cottage, we signed with Desjardins, for about a third of the premium that we previously had with Intact.
We have no claims experience to assess Intact or Desjardins. We have some experience with State Farm, and it was superb.
Bottom line: I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND INTACT.
I have been with the same broker for 25 Years and with Intact for 12 Years.
I have never made a claim, always paid my premium in full.
When I received my 2014 policy renewal I noticed extra charges for Identity Theft.
After reviewing the coverage I concluded the amount and what Intact would cover was nonsense and terrible value. I contacted my broker and requested Identity Theft coverage be deleted.
My broker said OK no problem. Next day my broker called and said Intact Insurance wants Identity Theft coverage deletion in writing otherwise they will not delete coverage. I sent my broker the request in writing. Next day my broker calls to say that Intact will not accept my request because it must be signed by all named in the policy. I sent my broker a second request in writing signed by all named in the policy. Finally request to remove Identity Theft coverage removed. Thanks for wasting my valuable time Intact Insurance.
When I received my 2015 policy renewal I had to go through the above process all over again.
Thanks for wasting my valuable time again Intact Insurance.
I have just received my 2016 policy renewal. Identity Theft has again been included in my policy the only thing I will be signing is a Cancellation Notice of the entire policy.
Intact Insurance is a Ridicules Company and one has to wonder if you have so many problems with Intact with an absolutely claim free history. They must be absolutely terrible to deal with if someone ever has the unfortunate situation of dealing with a loss!
I have comments on my Intact Insurance policy. I insured a house in Lindsay that was a rental property. The tenants trashed the place. I had to replace all of the flooring, truck out garbage by the ton, replace closet doors, reinstall kitchen cupboards, clean and paint every square inch, etc. etc. It took us 3 months and cost over $23,000, and that was with our free labour. What did Intact cover? Nothing. I guess it has to be burned to the ground before they'll come to the party. I should have put a match to it.
Canadians pay, on average, approximately $20 per month in tenants insurance. Do you rent or plan to rent a property and want to reduce insurance costs? We will help you get a cheap tenant insurance quote today.
I had what I thought would be a relatively easy claim to have settled in a reasonable amount of time. Our home was broken into in July 2014. I submitted pictures of the stolen items, serial numbers, and boxes/receipts. I didn't claim anything that I didn't have proof of.
This was a year ago and the most recent response to my emails was "you need to give us time to look at the documents you have submitted "
This is the response after 3 months of just not answering my emails. Like a year isn't enough time to settle a break and enter claim.
I'm very disappointed with Intact Insurance. Beware.
INTACT commercials - your claims process starts when they get your phone call - but that does not mean they will help you or pay people. It just means they type it in the computer. Then you deal with the adjuster which is trying an experience from HELL! I had the absolute worst experience with this company and my neighbour across the street did too! Our basement flooded due to a water main break. We had top of the line coverage. Adjuster got mad at me and smashed my front door! Put a claim in for that and finally got paid one year later. Adjuster told me he did not like me, and promised to give me a hard time. He sent threatening letters that they were considering denying my claim. He offered me 1/7 the actual cost to repair the damage 2 months of the flood. I had already spent double hiring myown contractors to start repairs, not wanting to wait for the insurance company to take action. I had tenants. The fighting over coverage went on for nearly 6 months and finally I got a cheque for double what he first offered. I said this is not enough to cover all the invoices I submitted and complained to Intact Ombudsman. They did nothing. Then I reported unfair insurance practices, bad faith, to FSCO = Financial Services Commission of Ontario. This forced the matter into ARBITRATION! I recommend this to anyone not satisfied with money the insurance company is trying to get you to accept. Take the money they offer but do NOT sign a final release. Tell them you disagree with their calculation of your loss total. At arbitration, I got to present all the invoices for the actual repairs of the damage (not the adjuster's guesstimate) + lost rent. The whole process took about 9 months, but I finally got nearly everthing I asked for. INTACT gave my neighbour across the street a hard time. After his semi detached home was involved in a fire, it took twice as long for Intact to repair his house compared to the equally affected neighbour nest door. Fire was in January and the neighbour with CAA insurance was back in his house by August. The other neighbour with Intact is still waiting for drywall work to be completed. Estimated re-occupation could be 1 1/2 - 2 years because the approval during the claims process goes at a snails pace at Intact. INTACT SUCKS! Maybe their rate could be cheaper, but the attempts to deny coverage and delays in the claims process do not make it worth the savings! Go for a insurance company with a good reputation for claims processing - even if they charge more. I don't know how some insurance adjusters can look themselves in the mirror each morning after doing such horrible things to claimants - I know they get a bonus for paying out less. It's dirty money. I don't want to profit from other people's misery! SHAME on YOU INTACT Insurance Adjuster!
Very very unpleasant experience with a real b from Quebec who wasn't even trained to listen (and not interrupt), let alone try to THINK and come up with an efficient, effective way to proceed to get an estimate for my elderly mother's home insurance.
Other companies (with exception of Bellair, whose front line reps seem unfortunately about in the same league as Intact's) were very helpful and suggested ways for my mother to give them her approval for me to talk with them, but not this company.
Wonder what they'll do once the Baby Boom generation all start asking their kids for similar help.
Save yourself some frustration and go elsewhere. The only reason I'm giving a 1-star rating is because it's the lowest the site allows.
We had water damages a few days ago, they were very quick in sending someone to dry the place ,of course to their advantage to try and tell us that there is no more humidity. Then they send an estimator who claims he has done 6000 claims, acuses us of delibertely breaking the tile in the kitchen around a column that was pouring water galore. Writes down in his estimate ,take out the wood floor in the living room ,and just screw in the sub floor that squeaks, ReALLY !!! We had a contractor come and make an estimate ,and the claim is over 20k they estimated at 10k.Best par about it is that the clown that came to do the estimate is boasting how he had water damage at his house and his insurance company estimated 24 k .He boasted he did his own estimate and the damge was 48k .But he comes to our house and does to the clients he serves ,the same they tried to do with him.A real frustrated pr......k giving a hard time to the customers ,because he thinks he knows it all ,very unprofessional.

Been with Intact for over 25 years, and in 2012 had hail damage on house, was very dissatisfied with their adjuster and was a fight. Now on top of that have increased deductables on hail and water damage, in checking around seems only company to do this. Have checked with TD, and a couple others, yearly price about the same but for better coverage and lower deductables. Going to change.
On the auto side, fantastic service and coverage, but since are polices are bundled will also be changing.
