I have been having home insurance with them since 2016. Recently my house has suffered from subsidence which has been reported to Aviva. First month, they sent their surveyor (from Innovation) who advised further investigation should be carried out as she could not confirm there was subsidence. After long waiting, they sent their second surveyor on second month which confirmed the damage on the house was due to the movement of property. One month later, they said first surveyor has quit her job, so they have appointed another surveyor who believed there was no subsidence. This third surveyor (from innovation again) who only checked 20 mins and confirmed there was no subsidence. As there was no subsidence, they would not pay anything including loss of rent... The whole thing was insane as: 1. How could first surveyor confirm further investigation would be required and third surveyor just came in 20 mins and confirmed there was no subsidence? 2. So if they could have confirmed no subsidence in 20 mins, why does it take three months to confirm the result? 3. So far I know two of my neighbours all are suffering subsidence issues which they are aware of them but they just ignore 4. I sent my own Chartered building surveyor who confirmed the house is suffering subsidence issues 5. The insurance company now have sent another surveyor (Questgates) who, not surprisingly, came 20 mins and said there was no subsidence. I have spoken to several claim specialists who advised me that all the surveyors they sent (from Innovation and Questgates) would be very 'difficult'. This is my experience and I would suggest new customers to read my story before purchasing home insurance from them.
We just started our claim for water damage at our weekend property. This is our 2nd claim although the first was a completely different root cause.
Claim started - excellent service from Aviva call center, (excellent start)
contacted Winmar restoration company and they arrived promptly given the location; they worked late and came back the next day. (excellent initial contact)
Aviva assigned Claimspro as the adjuster. The person contacted us within minutes of Aviva's notification, and rearranged his day to come to our property that afternoon to see the damage. (excellent initial contact)
Big concern so far is now we have heard nothing for 3 days. This is why I am giving the low rating. Will provide an update either way when this gets finished.
Their contractor gives it to a sub contractor who gives it to a lone home handyman to do the entire repairs. We had water damage. The result is an uncertified worker that averages 4hr per day. Complain all you want but Aviva doesn't seem concerned, the job will get done eventually and they will have minimal costs. They gave it to Promus GTA of Toronto.
My house caught fire in February 2016 and we just moved back in over one year later in March. It is a large house just under 4000sq ft. The majority of the house was completely gutted but key areas were not, including the master bedroom and bath and a couple other areas. The insurance adjustor, Geoff, gave low ball and unfair budgets throughout the process. The insurance company refused to gut the remaining portion of the house and now after only living in the house for a few days we are suffering through flooding damage due to plumbing issues. The insurance adjustor has extremely poor communication with me but I'm sure this is part of his strategy. The cabinet maker Sandy Beach cabinetry installed warped cabinets and in their attempt to rectify the defectives cabinet draws keep reinstalling the same warped drawers. In addition, the values given to our contents are completely inaccurate. For example, the list will correctly identify an item but will assign an extremely low and inaccurate value. These are just some of the issues we've faced and the process is not over yet.
I recently had a house flood. My rep Angela was AMAZING!!! She answers every single text/call/email within a couple hours. No matter how busy she was she always was patient and kind to me. No matter what my request she was reasonable and agreeable.
All receipts were reimbursed immediately and I received a cheque within days.
My one and only complaint was the company that did my reno's ( refereed by Aviva). The company was overloaded with work, they passed it on to a smaller company and although in the end all work was done nicely it took a long time and a lot of hiccups.

We made a claim for water damage resulting from a broken hose on the washing machine in our second-floor laundry room. The contractor responded quickly with the delivery of a dehumidifier, but that dehumidifier stayed in our dining room for months despite frequent calls to you and the contractor. It was finally removed when we threatened to sell it. The insurance agent and the contractor then stated that our ceiling had been stippled and the ceiling damage was a result of removal of this stipple, not water damage. This was false as the house was built in 2010 and the builder testified that no ceiling was stippled; however, both the insurance agent and the contractor steadfastly held on to this claim that this did not represent water damage. The water damage was eventually repaired, but suboptimally. The subcontractor remarked to us at the time that he was only allowed to put two coats of paint on the repair because the insurance company and contractors had stated that they would not pay for a third coat which would result in a normal-appearing ceiling rather than a defective ceiling. Subsequent to this repair, secondary lesions developed. We had a second contractor inspect the ceiling and he noted a tide mark extending beyond the kitchen into the hallway leading to our ground-level bathroom. Both the insurance agent and contractor stated that they did not believe the second contractor because they could not understand how this could happen; note that our trust levels were not high as these were the same people who stated, despite all evidence to the contrary, that our ceiling had been stippled. Furthermore, both the insurance agent and contractor should be well aware of hydrodynamics. I suspect the insurance agent and the selected contractor were in cahoots and that no one was representing our interests.
A water leak in the basement from AC and water tank occurred. We tried to get a resolution, from contractors for these units, it took the different contractors a while to get the matter under wraps but there was substantial damage to the floors and walls. Someone recommended contacting our insurance "AVIVA" to cover damages. We contacted them, but saw a whole lot of run around on the subject with no effort on their behalf to give us a solution after a whole 2 weeks calling them each day, as they would never call or email back, when they said they would, and I'm trying to get a solution while they putting it off to another day. They finally decided - "Oh sorry, you are not covered. We decided this type of damage is due to an ongoing leak." Anyone reading this please take your money and run from this company! They just want your money and when you have a claim they will just give you the old run around! I would give NO STARS but no option exists for that.
I posted a review within a day or so of our house flooding back in June. The service I received from Aviva continued to be outstanding. Our claim adjuster maintained regular contact with us to ensure that everything was proceeding quickly and properly. On Side, the contractor that Aviva hired to complete the repairs, had much of the work done within three weeks, after which we only had to wait for the carpet that had been ordered to come in. When the water line burst, we had our house up for sale. Because this issue was dealt with so quickly and professionally, we continued to show our house to potential buyers, and we sold the house to buyers the same day that the carpet was installed. I can honestly say that our experience with Aviva was nothing short of excellent. I believe that our expectations of what we were entitled to were reasonable, and that Aviva dealt with our damages expediently and that they treated us more than fairly. In the end, they did everything that I could have hoped for. Thank you for everything Aviva. Paul in Beaumont, Alberta.
I have had home insurance for almost 38 years, and have never had to make a claim. We have our present house for sale, and have been trying to keep it perfect for showings. However, two nights ago I was returning from a nearby town, when my son called to tell me that he had gotten home and water was coming in through his bedroom ceiling. When I got home, we quickly determined that an outside water hose pipe had burst inside the wall, and drenched two rooms and started on a third. I called Aviva late that night, and they started the claim for me, and the lady was fantastic to deal with. At 7:00 am the next morning I spoke with their claim service again, and they said that a flood specialist company would call me right away. Ten minutes later On Side Restoration called, and said that they would have their Edmonton manager call me ASAP. And ten minutes after that, Dave called me. We agreed to meet at the house three hours later. At 10:30, just as the very kind Aviva adjuster had called to help me through all of this, Dave and his fantastic crew showed up at the house, and started taking down the wet ceiling and walls. Six hours later, they had dehumidifiers and fans, up and working. They also hauled out all of the wet drywall and cleaned up everything. The next morning they removed all of the bedroom carpets that they had already rolled up the previous night. Had Aviva and On Side Restoration not responded so quickly, I know our basement would have begun to smell musty, very quickly. As it is, everything is already dry, and this is all now just an inconvenience, not the financial loss it could have been. I really appreciate Aviva's response, and On Side Restorations response and great work by their crew. Their manager and two man crew are better than as I could ever have asked for, and I thank you all for helping my family through this the past two days. Thank you Aviva and On Side Restoration! I had frostting in the attic due ventillation issues during the big storm in Feb 2017. I called them up and they send the emergency fast,that was a good thing.
Now the emergency company had little knowledge in the attic, so they made things worse. They removed the attic cover and sealed it with nylon, more warm went up.
They sent another emergency company which did nothing, then a consultant who just said it was air circulation problem.
It took 3.5 weeks for them to say go fix it as you wish on your own.
The insulation got all wet becuase it melted down, the wood started to have mold problems and the gyp of the bedrooms got wet. all this and they are not covering anything of it?
