They cancelled our policy with very little notification and very poor customer service

One week to go until my policy renewal and I was informed that they would not be renewing my insurance. They said we had 3 claims in 6 years. The first claim was for water damage in basement due to a corroded copper pipe. The 2nd so called claim - we didn't realize it was considered a claim was when the same pipe sprung another leak. We had called the insurance company but when we found out what it was we called a plumber and paid for the repair ourselves. Apparently since they called someone out to look at it and spent all of $127 it is considered a claim. The 3rd claim occurred last October when a neighbour had a fire. The flames were fiercely coming out of a bedroom window and it melted our shed and some siding. We had no control over that. In my estimation WE had ONE claim - the first one. They initially told us that if we provided proof that the siding was repaired and send a picture they would renew our policy. Liars! Didn't have the decency to even call during all of this. Just received an e-mail saying not renewing.

Leaking Basement

by Scott Aitken on Jul 14, 2023

Aviva has done nothing to get my basement leak fixed. The builder is not cooperating and the Aviva can't spend a very small amount of money to finally finish the basement.
Lots of phone calls, emails and nothing is fixed.

Home repairs

Aviva is a joke of a company. I put in a claim for water damage in my basement. The adjuster I had did not look at my Policy and managed to approve the company to take apart my entire basement. They left me with no walls, no shower, no flooring, NOTHING! We also could never reach this adjuster (he never answered his phone or responded to emails). We are now stuck having to pay out of our own pocket to put everything back (over $30,000). We are in a pandemic and this ridiculous company leaves us with an unfinished basement. We could have taken apart our own basement ourselves if we wanted to. Honestly don’t choose this company. They clearly have clowns working for them and you’ll just be stuck with a bigger mess than when you put in a claim.

BUYER BEWARE!!!

A water leak in the basement from AC and water tank occurred. We tried to get a resolution, from contractors for these units, it took the different contractors a while to get the matter under wraps but there was substantial damage to the floors and walls. Someone recommended contacting our insurance "AVIVA" to cover damages. We contacted them, but saw a whole lot of run around on the subject with no effort on their behalf to give us a solution after a whole 2 weeks calling them each day, as they would never call or email back, when they said they would, and I'm trying to get a solution while they putting it off to another day. They finally decided - "Oh sorry, you are not covered. We decided this type of damage is due to an ongoing leak." Anyone reading this please take your money and run from this company! They just want your money and when you have a claim they will just give you the old run around! I would give NO STARS but no option exists for that.

what a nightmare

We had a claim in April 2019 it is now the end of Oct 2019 and we are still not done. Our basement flooded. They lost our claim and when we called for an update they asked if we are an Aviva customer. I got bounced from person to person. Anytime I tried to contact our claims adviser it would take days-weeks before getting an answer. I had to reach out multiple times asking for a manager to get anything done. The customer service is terrible I would give it a 0 if I could. We already had to live with losing our stuff we had to deal with a company that didn't care about us. I would not recommend Aviva and I will be switching insurance as soon as my claim is done.

DO NOT DEAL WITH AVIVA

by wkawalik on Aug 26, 2018

Water poured into the basement. AVIVA would not cover anything saying the house is not covered for this claim. I have had max coverage for house and vehicles for years. First claim for insurance help in 47 years. $60,000 out of my pocket. Just retired. Yes, 60 thousand dollars for replacement of damaged weeping tile. Adjuster would not return my phone or E-mail calls. Called AVIVA. Finally, the adjuster would send a carpenter to look at other damage. 1 1/2 years ago. Still waiting. STAY AWAY FROM AVIVA

WORST SERVICE!

6 Months ago I had a small flood (just under the hardwood in the basement, no water visible). I contacted the insurance company and they said they will send someone ASAP - and I chose their trusted contractor (My contractor said 2-3 weeks TOPS to repair/remove the hardwood/paint). 6 MONTHS LATER - I am still waiting for them to finish. The adjuster is horrible and did not reply for weeks at a time, I called them numerous times and went straight to voicemail. Kristen was most horrible adjuster I have ever spoken to. I even tried to contact another adjuster just to be met with voicemail and no response. I even escalated 3 TIMES over the phone to talk to a manager - NO ONE RESPONDED TO MY REQUESTS. Now I am sitting here just waiting, looking at my unfinished basement after 6 months of the claim going through... THANKS, AVIVA!

Wants YOU to pay their bills

Aviva took RBC and ran it into the ground. Their staff is inept. Had a claim. The road adjuster did nothing. No money, no calculation of cost nothing. What Aviva does is send their "preferred contractor". Instead of paying road advisers they rely on this third party to do the quote for repair. Which is BS. Its AVIVAs job to pay their own people to come up with numbers. Not pay 3rd parties out of my insurance limit. This is what happens. Using my claim money to pay this third party to come up with a lowball estimate and do so at my cost for their fee. The truth is, they lowball. Then when the "unexpected" comes up during repair the contractor will amend. Why? So people get less of a cash out option for one. But more important you have the right to hire your own contractor. But the lowball estimate cannot be exceeded. Further pushing clients in favor of the "preferred vendor". Here is what the "preferred vendor" did for me. I had a sewage flood. They DID NOT clean. They DID NOT remove any contents. They DID NOT disinfect. They ripped out 600 sf of flooring and cut into some wallboard. End of them. I had to clean my own house of sewage. I had to disinfect myself and do all the content manipulation myself. Aviva was made aware with a detailed timesheet. They dont care. They waived my $1000 deductable. Gee thanks because you paid your "preferred vendor" $6000. What for? I beleive AVIVA to be 100% without ethics and I believe how they are operating is in contradiction to the laws in Ontario. This is not honest business nor regulation practice. AFter my lowball claim they sent me a letter saying they wont insure my house anymore. You see .... they are there to take money and invest it for their gain. They are not there to insure things.

Update to my June review

by chinook42 on Jul 27, 2017
5 out of 5 stars

I posted a review within a day or so of our house flooding back in June. The service I received from Aviva continued to be outstanding. Our claim adjuster maintained regular contact with us to ensure that everything was proceeding quickly and properly. On Side, the contractor that Aviva hired to complete the repairs, had much of the work done within three weeks, after which we only had to wait for the carpet that had been ordered to come in. When the water line burst, we had our house up for sale. Because this issue was dealt with so quickly and professionally, we continued to show our house to potential buyers, and we sold the house to buyers the same day that the carpet was installed. I can honestly say that our experience with Aviva was nothing short of excellent. I believe that our expectations of what we were entitled to were reasonable, and that Aviva dealt with our damages expediently and that they treated us more than fairly. In the end, they did everything that I could have hoped for. Thank you for everything Aviva. Paul in Beaumont, Alberta.

flood in basement

Very disappointing, my case was considered urgent, through Aviva it took two weeks to let me know that there was one clause in the contract stating that I was not qualified for a claim. Meantime, no help for helping me to clean up the water or giving any hints on how to proceed specially from their specialists, when i was two weeks after the claim doesn`t qualify because of a detail. The specialists for floods. wanted to recuperate their machines right away half hour after i hung up with Aviva, so no furniture was compensated for the damage either meanwhile, there were mushrooms growing in my walls. It was smelling very humid in the house, but Aviva doesn`t care about their customers, they want your business and nothing else… I have two houses with them, and two cars also…
