Worst insurance company

by Ian Tomalty on Nov 26, 2020
2 out of 5 stars

We had two or three claims due to storms which is not in our control and they have now said they can no longer insure us as a result. This company is a joke and I would absolutely not recommend then to anyone.

Aviva increase scam

by Feeling Betrayed RBC on Oct 17, 2018
2.5 out of 5 stars

It's just sad that a month before my renewal I get a registered letter that my insurance is being cancelled because I didn't answer a letter I never received. And add to the insult of being a longtime loyal customer, the broker tells me that I can re-apply as a new customer with a 55% increase or lodge a complaint but they are so busy I won't get a response for at least two weeks and a decision after the expiry date. But hey, my home insurance was renewed without a problem which I thought was funny and I'm pretty sure they will pull the same stunt next year for that to get their increase! I would love to know if there are others out there in the same situation because this seems like a scam. Shame on you RBC for partnering with these crooks. I'm closing all of my accounts and going elsewhere.

Not recommended

Recently had to ask for roof repairs, multiple calls, opened online claim, got confirmation but apparently the claim was not in the system, called again, approved a claim, nobody calls for days, called back, was given a number to find out my adjuster, had to call another company, multiple steps, confusing and uncomfortable process. I do not recommend

One Year Increase of 190%

by Upset Customer on Apr 14, 2016
2 out of 5 stars

190% increase between 2015 rate and 2016 quote. The company stated that due to the insurance industry losses their underwriters found it necessary to raise some rates and decrease some customer discounts. Fair enough.
My rate went from $633 in 2015 to $1,835 in a single year. Is anyone able to inform me why it might be possibly be necessary for such a large increase in a dingle year?
Does anyone reading this post have a similar situation or explanation for such a large increase in a single year?

Dropped us for small claim, without notice

by Aves on Apr 23, 2024
2.7 out of 5 stars

We made a very small $2K claim for water damage. They subsequently dropped us without notice some time later. We then had a much larger water issue and were surprised to find we were uninsured as we were never notified. Our insurance broker ended up covering our claim due to the lack of notice and coverage.
To drop someone for a small water claim is very sensitive and to not notify us is very irresponsible. We’re lucky that we had worked with a good broker.
We found better rates and moved both home and auto to a new provider.

They cancelled our policy with very little notification and very poor customer service

by Deborah Schmidt on Sep 7, 2023
2 out of 5 stars

One week to go until my policy renewal and I was informed that they would not be renewing my insurance. They said we had 3 claims in 6 years. The first claim was for water damage in basement due to a corroded copper pipe. The 2nd so called claim - we didn't realize it was considered a claim was when the same pipe sprung another leak. We had called the insurance company but when we found out what it was we called a plumber and paid for the repair ourselves. Apparently since they called someone out to look at it and spent all of $127 it is considered a claim. The 3rd claim occurred last October when a neighbour had a fire. The flames were fiercely coming out of a bedroom window and it melted our shed and some siding. We had no control over that. In my estimation WE had ONE claim - the first one. They initially told us that if we provided proof that the siding was repaired and send a picture they would renew our policy. Liars! Didn't have the decency to even call during all of this. Just received an e-mail saying not renewing.

Are you a condo unit tenant? Remember that neither your condominium corporations' policy nor your landlord's insurance policy protects you as a tenant (3rd part liability, contents, etc.). If you do not have your own insurance policy, get your condominium insurance quote today.

No Contact

I have no online access to my account. I did have but apparently, they don't talk to other coworkers. One person gave me access then someone else changed the password. Why? I have no idea.

Received Threatening Letter Demanding I call them

by Jenny on Nov 30, 2021
2.5 out of 5 stars

After being with Aviva for 20 years Home Policy and having never even made a claim & having paid all of our policies on time, we are sent a letter demanding that we call them within 30 days or they will cancel our home insurance. They want to know if we have replaced our roof recently, as they think it is 20 years old.
In fact, we have updated and replaced our roof 3 years ago.
WE do not mind the question, but it is the manner of them sending us a written letter with no way for us to respond to their question other than to call them up. It literally takes at least 10 minutes to get through to a live person every time we have to speak to someone there.
Once through, there is a bunch of additional questions unrelated to our policy with their caveat that it's to help us save money on our policy... its really an attempted sales pitch and to gather more intrusive information.
If a question is asked by mail, then the response by mail should also be provided as an option. In this digital age, this type of information could easily be updated many non-intrusive ways.
This is almost like this company has gone out of there way to alienate good customers.
I was on the phone with their agent for almost 20 minutes. Meanwhile, I was on the computer looking for another insurance company.

hot water tank damage

by nerdy girl 77 on Jul 11, 2019
2 out of 5 stars

Burst hot water tank flooring needs to be replaced in the laundry room which is only 2 years old. That matches my kitchen, dining room area but Aviva's contractor saying they won't be able to replace with the same stuff, so will they floor the whole area so it matches or will it be all mismatched now looking for info on this.

35% increase

by Slom on Mar 1, 2019
2 out of 5 stars

Longtime RBC customers. Received my 2019 auto and home renewal March 1st. No claims, no accidents, no tickets. 35 % increase on home and 33% increase on auto. Called, the lady was very nice, but that is the new price. Absolutely disgusting.
