extremly poor service

by Tom from NL on Mar 1, 2015
1 out of 5 stars

My home and auto insurance will be up for renewal in June so I decided to get a head start and get some quotes. I called several companies and was treated with complete professionalism and respect until I contacted RBC. From the beginning I was treated like a criminal who was trying to sneak something passed them. The woman, with a foreign accent and very hard to understand ,was rude and I felt like I was being interrogated for committing some crime. Finally, when I had enough, I just told her to forget about it and hung up. This was my first and last time dealing with RBC insurance.

Inflexible policies

by dvescio on Feb 10, 2015
1 out of 5 stars

I recently made a change to my credit card and forgot to inform RBC about it. My fault, no doubt. I received a registered letter later stating that I failed to make my last 2 payments and that they would be cancelling my policy. I ultimately made the payment but missed the deadline by ONE day due to circumstances out of my control. Again, not their fault but they refused to budge. Payment had to be in their hands on the Friday at noon, but they only received it Monday at 10am and they cancelled the policy and would not re-insure me. I spoke to 3 different managers and each of them sounded like broken records, saying it was out of their hands. This complete lack of flexibility toward a long-standing paying client is despicable and demonstrates loud and clear that we are just numbers to them. Will definitely be moving ALL assets out of Royal Bank

No Home Policy While Away

by Home Away on Jan 15, 2015
1 out of 5 stars

I missed an automatic monthly payment due to a changed visa card# (my fault as I failed to notify RBC of the change). Despite their knowledge of my absence from Canada, RBC cancelled my home policy before I returned--and will not renew policy (for three years) even though I paid balance in full as soon as I knew. Received mailed notification when I returned home but it was two weeks too late. No call, no email to notify me of situation while away. Missed payment of $13.00. My fault, yes, but inflexible policy jeopardizes likelihood of obtaining new insurance. Be aware.

Canadians pay, on average, approximately $20 per month in tenants insurance. Do you rent or plan to rent a property and want to reduce insurance costs? We will help you get a cheap tenant insurance quote today.

horrible service

I moved several months ago and had the exact same amount of tenants insurance in my new place. I got a quote over the phone for the same price (within a dollar). then received that quote by mail. A week later, RBC sent me 3 written quotes for 100%, 50%, and 70% higher even though my insurance hadn't changed at all. They randomly went into my bank account and took out the higher rates several times in a one month period. I know that mistakes happen so I called expecting RBC to acknowledge going into my bank account illegally, refund my money and accept their first quote as the correct one. It took many months to clear things up, they were completely rude and unapologetic, never called back when they said they would and awful to deal with even though all of the mistakes were made from their staff and of course to their benefit. Had I not kept the copy of the original quote , called and wrote to the Ombudsman many times , and kept on it, RBC would have never refunded me the money they illegally took. Horrible service. Never deal with them.

I bought a car insurance policy from them on October 25th. After 3 weeks, I still can not log in /create an account with them. I called them multiple times and emailed complaints to feedback@rbcinsurance.com with no help. Stay away from them, not professional at all

Completely unorganized

by A Evans on Oct 18, 2022

I pay my insurance yearly. I pay by credit card and have added my card to my account. For the second year in a row, they have failed to take the payment. I get surprised by a letter that says a payment needs to be made. I go online because there is a 3-hour wait time on the phone. There is nowhere to pay, it says to add them to my online banking. Online banking says the account number isn't in the correct format. Yesterday I clicked for an automatic call back instead of waiting. I received a call back 5 hours later saying they were now closed. Do yourself a favor. Use anyone else.

Simple Requests take forever

by David Pickrell on Aug 26, 2022
1 out of 5 stars

I had to have my existing lender listed again as a payee in the event of a loss. It was for a modest HELOC. The automated call back service rang me 90 minutes later with a ring so quick I could not pick up fast enough - 3 times this happened then I presume that it determined I was unreachable.

So I was stuck on hold for another 90 minutes to reach a "knowledgeable agent". For the 3rd time, I am on hold with the agent to add this simple endorsement. Over 35 minutes to do what should be done online.

Absolute dismal customer service.

Worst insurance company ever

2 hour hold times to get 0 help or assistance. Unwilling to work with customers. Had two payments bounce in 6 years due to a change in job and cancer surgery. paid as soon as we could maybe 2 weeks late... told we can't ever make a mistake again after one issue... was 20 dollars short in account one more time notices less than 24 hours called and explained the money were there slight mistake nope requiring a full payout of entire years term going forward joke I'd rather pay a 50 dollar fee it is not like we just didn't pay... they have received all their money. Been with another insurer for 12 plus years no issue home insurance 6 years one small bump in our life and they screw your entire reputation. Don't insure with RBC! They don't care about you at all.

Insurance not renewed after 2nd claim

by Bryan on Jun 13, 2022
1 out of 5 stars

My family and I have been long-time RBC customers till now. We had 1 claim in 2020 because of a massive flood due to a faulty dishwasher. From the moment of the call to RBC, it was nothing but problems. We were out of the house for the repairs to be done from the beginning of June 2020 - December 24th, 2020. First of all, we went with their approved vendors which would show up for a couple of days and then you wouldn't see or hear from them for another 3-5 days and sometimes not there for a week or more, it took them almost 6 months to replace to floors and cedar ceiling on the lower floor. While being out of the house RBC had a hard time finding us accommodations leaving us to find our own. We would get 1 night here, 1 night there a couple of trailers on our property to stay in for a week and then it had to go back because it was booked previously for that date and they would have another one brought. This situation was horrible especially having to move a whole family, (3 little kids) daily and weekly. It was not till November when they did find us a house to stay in for the month and when December came we had to move out to another house till Christmas evening, really!!! Absolute garbage!!! The 2nd time was because of a copper water line that had a leak in a part of our house we don't use much we called them and explained the situation and decided not to go with the repair and do it ourselves BUT because of the call, it was deemed the 2nd claim that they will not be renewing our home insurance. This is wrong on so many levels and I would not recommend RBC/AVIVA !!!!!! They want your monthly insurance money but as soon as you need it for something that is not your fault they deem it your fault and cancel!!!

RBC / Aviva to replace roof as 20 years old?

by Blue on May 18, 2022
1 out of 5 stars

Stay away, far far away from RBC / Aviva.
After being charged a $50 late fee after a credit card change and after paying a day early, they wanted 10-days notice? After four days, numerous 4-hour phone delays, and up to four levels they finally cancelled it. One simple call should have sorted it out?
Now, a letter from RBC as my (50 years) roof 20 years old it must be replaced?? Had roofing company inspect it, shingles on the back different quality and due for replacement but front 50 year is ok.
Talk to Bryan at RBC. He and the adjuster agreed after the Roofing company inspected, that front did not have to be done. Great had the 80% back replaced. Called to have the policy updated, second guy says NO, need all roof?
Two weeks later, more people and managers were involved. Told I have to bring the roofers back, another $8000 to do the rest??
Called a local broker, and they found the company to insure, the roof ok, their price was $600 less than RBC.
Stay away, RBC / Aviva is nothing but hassle.
