No notice after 5 years of paying them they blocked my account

by Dgor on Jul 27, 2022
2 out of 5 stars

I've been using TD home insurance for 5 years. I mistakenly paid 37 dollars, too little, I pay once a year. Instead of contacting me, they blocked my account. I didn't mind paying a higher price because they were easy. I will not be renewing!!!

Tryed to cancel auto insurance

by Steve. Bowen on Apr 26, 2016
1 out of 5 stars

Worst company I have ever dealt with my wife called 3 weeks ago to cancel our car and truck insurance . After waiting on hold for 30 minutes they informed her that she could not because the vehicles were in my name, that night I was on hold for 40 minutes and then it just hung up.
I called again 2 weeks later and again was on hold for 48 minutes finally some one came on and we proceeded to do the cancellation, at this time they informed me that I would be charged a extra months payment on each vehicle because I was 5 days away from my payment which meant instead of $180.00 in 5 days it now is going to be $360.00. Highway robbery. I even explained to the girl how many times I called.

This is the biggest scam ever

Dealing with this company is ridiculous. Pay a bill online, they send a snail mail letter saying it's past due, then you call and they say "we can't help you call this number"... You call that number and they say that it is the wrong department. Insurance is garbage as it is, and this large-scale shop is no different.

Poor customer service

I was out of the country for two years and set up an auto-renewal plan for my home insurance. When I returned, I found out there was a problem with the auto-payment, and so my house was not insured for one year. In addition, when I talked to an insurance representative, I was charged an extra $104 and told I would not be able to renew my plan. TD Insurance had my contact information, but I received no email to let me know about this problem. Very disappointed. I would have been devastated if I came home to a house that had damage, or was burnt down, and no insurance.

Unreasonable Money Grabbers

I have just cancelled all policies with this company. I had four properties and a tenant package insured with this firm. I also had four automobiles insured with them. There was one claim on a property caused by a tenant who flooded the ceiling in the apartment below. This is the only claim in approx. five years of coverage. During this claim I had to do the emergency work myself as this occurred on a weekend. Once the adjuster did come he was very friendly and quite fine to deal with. However, the damaged caused to the apartment below consisted of a collapsed ceiling kitchen and floor damage which made the apartment unlivable. The contractor was unavailable for 3 months. I had to do the work myself. Next point is that my policy went from $1800.00 per year to almost $7000.00 . There should be a law against this as they are bandits.I am a retired Police Officer and many inmates are far more honest than these people. I cancelled my insurance and had to pay a substantial fee. The co-Operators insurance saved me over $3000.00 and were happy to get my business. This was on just one property. They also cancelled my cottage insurance and tried to charge me a fee to cancel although they were cancelling the policies as they would not insure the cottage without the home, they were charging over $3000.00 a year more for . Insurance companies are out of hand.Their profits are enormous. The consumers need some protection against this behaviour . Politicians talk the talk but really do nothing to help they are just a lip service for these white shirt thieves.

Using flood as an excuse

by Martyupnorth on Jul 31, 2014

I have purchased all my insurance from TD Meloche Monnex since 1994. During that time I have paid $55,762.86 in premiums and have never had a claim. Last year I was shocked when my home insurance premiums went up by 43.8%. I called to complain and was simply told that overall insurance costs were going up because of recent bad weather, notably the flood in Calgary. I didn’t flood, but I understand that insurance is a concept whereby several people pool their resources to spread the risk. I argued at the time that TD Meloche was obviously insuring too many high risk individuals. I naively accepted the increase in premiums.

Now a year has gone by, and I just found out they want to increase my premiums by an additional 24.2%. This is outrageous, especially considering the fact that TD Bank is making over $1 billion/quarter in profits.

I really didn’t feel like they appreciated my business so I decided to shop around. Wow, am I ever glad I did. Everyone I called was cheaper than TD Meloche. I’m sure you’ll argue that I’m getting less coverage. Let me assure you that I spent at least one hour discussing each quote with the prospective insurers, making sure I was getting equivalent coverage.

I decided to give my business to ScotiaLife Financial. My new policy is 41% cheaper than TD Meloche. How is that possible? I can only conclude that TD is trying to take advantage of people by using the flood as an excuse, or they’re simply incompetent and insuring too many high risk clients. Either way I don’t want to do business with them anymore.

TD has managed to totally piss-off a loyal customer of 20 years.

Home claim small water damage

by Larpworm on Nov 25, 2023

I don’t even know where to start. Claims rep was horrible to the point of me requesting new rep. I was denied!! I requested my policy 3 times and had to make phone calls before I got it.
I used the companies preferred vendor( first on site) to do the work to avoid problems. Nothing but horrible workmanship from drug dependent workers. Work was supposed to take 2 weeks. 6 months later was only half completed and horrible to the point as I kicked them out of my house.
Ins company won’t pay to replace electronics that were damaged and won’t work. They sent electronics out to be tested and paid $100 to get a letter saying electronics are fine. So they won’t even budge saying everything works when it doesn’t.
I am now going thru an agency to go mediate compensation which is a no brainer obvious call. Even if they are the cheapest rates your throwing ur money away as you are simply not insured as they won’t pay on an everyday claim. Their goal is to say no and make u fight for it .
A one star is too much. If you need proof of this you can reach me at 6667chevelle@gmail.com and I will gladly send u pictures and videos.

My payment didn't go through

by SB on Dec 10, 2022
1 out of 5 stars

My payment didn't go through as I changed my credit card from TD as I thought it would have been hacked. This is definitely my fault but they didn’t notify me once of the missing payments. I was under the assumption that the policy was still on and had no idea of missed payments. One day I realized that there was no payment being made. When I asked them they had already canceled my plan without notification. Thankfully nothing bad happened at the time while I was under the assumption that I was covered. Be aware.

Unhappy customer

I have been paying my home insurance on time for almost a year. Then I get mail from TD home insurance telling me I have an outstanding balance. I'm thinking there must be a mistake. I call TD. The representative tells me they were charging me less for many months and they want to retrieve the remaining balance. I said that's your error. You tell me one price. I pay it with no problem. The error on TD and they expect me to clean up their mistake. I just talked to a representative who refuses to fix this issue and wants to blame computer glitches.

Overcharged and no refund

by Z on Apr 8, 2021
1 out of 5 stars

They took my one year premium on Mar 3 2021 and cancelled my policy on Mar 4 2021 due to nonpayment and did not refund the money I paid. Then they charged my credit card extra one year premium on Mar 31 2021 to reinstate the policy and claimed they have not received any payment on Apr 7 2021. Once I went to my bank to dispute the charge, they immediately said they received the one year premium and then cancelled the policy again, charged me over 500 dollars before refund, in extra to the premiums I have paid Upto the date. Crooks. Avoid at all costs!
