Poor Customer Experience...

by RMG on Mar 2, 2017
1 out of 5 stars

Online quote system doesn't work properly, chat was useless, and eventually I spoke to live agents who were not helpful at answering questions. If trying to get a quote is this hard, what would it be like if one ever had to make a claim.

Poor customer service

by Shyam on Oct 9, 2020
1.5 out of 5 stars

Most TD insurance customer service agents are rude and poor in services. A couple of times I disconnected the call due to the way he was talking. When I told him he should talk in a better way, he told me it's your choice to talk or not. Another point is about the quote. There is almost double the amount of difference when you quote online and when you call the agent. I got a quote online for 800$/year and when I call the agent to buy the quoted 1500$/year without changing any conditions. When I asked them why does it happen, he said I don't know and I can't do anything.

Underquoting

by ConnedbyTD on Jun 28, 2020

TD Insurance is definitely an unethical company. On my first call for a quotation, I got a fairly low price for home insurance pending home inspection. After a home inspection, they did not call or write. Close to my start date, I called and found out that they have more than doubled the quoted price and the only reason is that the cost of rebuilding if needed is higher than they had quoted. I believe that they should have known all this during the initial quote as they had my house address, house size, roof material, etc. The home inspection did not turn out any discrepancies to our initial conversation. I believe they purposefully underquoted. These are bait tactics that prevented me from shopping and checking quotes from other companies. TD Insurance is definitely unethical. I will not start my policies with them as I can't trust them to keep their promises if an unfortunate event is to happen. PS. Also, they promised to call back within 24 hours with more explanation about the reasons for the policy change but never did. That was more than 7 days ago.

Using flood as an excuse

by Martyupnorth on Jul 31, 2014

I have purchased all my insurance from TD Meloche Monnex since 1994. During that time I have paid $55,762.86 in premiums and have never had a claim. Last year I was shocked when my home insurance premiums went up by 43.8%. I called to complain and was simply told that overall insurance costs were going up because of recent bad weather, notably the flood in Calgary. I didn’t flood, but I understand that insurance is a concept whereby several people pool their resources to spread the risk. I argued at the time that TD Meloche was obviously insuring too many high risk individuals. I naively accepted the increase in premiums.

Now a year has gone by, and I just found out they want to increase my premiums by an additional 24.2%. This is outrageous, especially considering the fact that TD Bank is making over $1 billion/quarter in profits.

I really didn’t feel like they appreciated my business so I decided to shop around. Wow, am I ever glad I did. Everyone I called was cheaper than TD Meloche. I’m sure you’ll argue that I’m getting less coverage. Let me assure you that I spent at least one hour discussing each quote with the prospective insurers, making sure I was getting equivalent coverage.

I decided to give my business to ScotiaLife Financial. My new policy is 41% cheaper than TD Meloche. How is that possible? I can only conclude that TD is trying to take advantage of people by using the flood as an excuse, or they’re simply incompetent and insuring too many high risk clients. Either way I don’t want to do business with them anymore.

TD has managed to totally piss-off a loyal customer of 20 years.

Horrible Experience

by Newbie on May 12, 2014

Just calling to get a quote from them is bad enough. The quote they've given me is ridiculous and the customer service rep was no help at all. From all your claim review, I will definitely not be going to them when I can still decide on the provider.

Thanks

They extended their liability insurance to vacant which is better than the others I was quoted for and they have the highest deductible limit that I also was able to find by shopping around.

Are you a condo unit tenant? Remember that neither your condominium corporations' policy nor your landlord's insurance policy protects you as a tenant (3rd part liability, contents, etc.). If you do not have your own insurance policy, get your condominium insurance quote today.

Total scam quoting!

They quote you one price.. then you have to call them to confirm the price. Lo and behold, the price goes up to $700 yearly! ($1300 to $2000) what a total scam! No thanks TD! I am totally disgusted.

Deceptive quote process

by JasonW on Feb 22, 2019
1 out of 5 stars

I signed up for a tenant policy. You can start obtaining a quote online but at a certain point, you are required to phone in and deal with an agent. The agent I dealt with, while very polite, did not voluntarily disclose some fairly major exclusions. These were only included in the policy details after signing up for it. Among the major exclusions, I assumed were covered were an earthquake, flooding, and water backup. I phoned back as soon as I received the policy details by mail and canceled (1 week after the policy was initiated). I was told there would be a charge almost equivalent to 1 month premium to cancel despite the fact I was only seeing the details of the policy for the first time and had had it for less than a week. When I asked for an email confirmation that the cancellation had gone through I was told they did not have the ability to do this despite the fact that they had sent me confirmation when I signed up for the policy. It is clearly a deliberate effort to be non-transparent to not disclose the details of the policy until after you've signed up already. I later found a quote that was a fraction of the price that covered the major exclusions in this policy. I should have done more research. Just glad I did not have to try to make a claim.

horrible stressful

We had a wind and water claim started. We had this open for about a month after calling in and took forever to get someone to come to our home.Adjuster was rude, unorganized never answered phone judged everything as though she was paying out of her own pocket, very cheap outfit! Dropped us at the end said if we didn't come up with money to pay for sheathing and to add over inflated price x2 the price the contractor wanted to put in they would not proceed. We are talking over 6,000 plus 1,000 deductible or pay us out so they could wipe their hands of any liability as they weren't paying .We didn't have that money in the budget and at first were told everything was covered. No we had to take the payout and they automatically deduct the 1,000 deductible and even though they have a quote are going through with a fine comb to trim costs. At the end the million dollar roofer who works for them is making a killing even tried to make private deals and get us to approve work just so he could move on. I offered to purchase the wood to afford the repairs and flat out no was the answer..If you are here looking at reviews take the money and find a small time carpenter or company if not in an emergency like us. What a disaster never again! Run stay far away from this outfit cheap rates but you will pay for it in the end.

Td insurance on a cottage

by Matt on Oct 3, 2017
1 out of 5 stars

I recently got a quote for insurance on a cottage that I was in the process of buying. Everything seemed to go fine. On the day of closing, when I called to activate the insurance they told me that whoever I was talking to the first time made several errors with the quote and that not only would they not be able to give me the quoted price but they couldn't insure the cottage at all because it wouldn't be profitable for them to do so. Truly terrible service.
