Incorrect charge prices

by Zahid Zekria on Mar 10, 2017
1 out of 5 stars

Called to modify my existing home insurance policy. I was given a quote and a grace period to shop around for a better premium. Shopped around and found it was best to stick with TD. Called back to accept the new premium and was told that the previous quote was incorrect, and was given a much more expensive price, which was not the cheapest I found. Was told that the grace period was over and that the new premium prices were going into effect. Asked what the cancellation fee before the next payment would be, was given a number. Changed insurance providers and when I called back to cancel they tried to charge me over 3 times as much.

Overall very frustrating to deal with and phone agents are either incompetent or are lying to you.

Worest ever company

I would highly not recommend this company for any insurance. I was with this company for 10 years. I had my auto and home insurance with them. I was paying double the amount for insurance. They don't recognize the value of customer and their business . They just need their money. I am happy i moved out from them and learnt my lesson. I did a little bit of shopping and got a way less insurance. My best advice to all is do your shopping for insurance before every renewal it will save you a lot of money. I would not recommend td insurance for anyone.
Thank you.

I hate this company

by Fed up with TD on Sep 22, 2015

When I bought my house 5 years ago I went with TD because the last owners were with them and the price seemed reasonable $90/month. Within 2 years they raised my premiums to almost $200/month and I have never filed a claim. I lost my job 2 years ago and was having a very difficult time making ends meet. I called all of my creditors and explained my situation and they were all willing to cut me some slack and give me a few extra days, including my mortgage lender. But not TD. I called to tell them that I would be ONE DAY LATE! and they told me that if I was ever late again that they would cancel my policy and I would be liable for the balance owed. Recently there was a leak in the roof and it took them a week to send an inspector. I was told that if the leak was due to the roof being in bad shape they would not cover it, but if it was due to shingles being blown off the roof they would cover the cost of the resulting damage, but not before I paid a $1000 deductible. They called me yesterday to tell me that they couldn't help me because according to the report there were no shingles missing, despite the fact that I pointed them out to the inspector!!!

Households in Alberta pay, on average, approximately $60/month in homeowners’ insurance costs. We can help to push these costs even further down. Get a house insurance quote today to start saving today. Rates start at $20/month.

Too expensive for sewer backup

by Unhappy on Jul 8, 2015

I got my insurance renewal, with $800 additional for sewer backup (and only up to $15000 with $2000 deductible. The ice damming coverage is $130 a year. Are you kidding me?

Also, a half duplex rental property for $342 per year, just for sewer backup?

TD Insurance cheats customers

by Another Displeased TD Insurance Customer on May 9, 2015
1 out of 5 stars

TD raised my rates to the point where it was 15% less to switch to Square One insurance. Square one has better service and are reasonable human beings to speak with one the phone or by email. I cancelled the PAP program with TD Insurance first, paid the balance owing out on my Visa, and told them I once my policy was up, I was switching companies.

They made a mistake on the amount they charged to my Visa and rather than tell me, they just took one more PAP payment off 2 weeks later. This caused my account balance to dip below $5000 and huge fees incurred. The branch credited the fees and reversed the unauthorized PAP. When confronted, TD Insurance said they had every right to debit my account even thought I revoked their access. They had the nerve to charge me a late payment penalty (even though they miscalculated the amount I paid out on my visa) which I reluctantly paid to get rid of them.

Finally my policy expired and I signed up with Square One but I get a letter in the mail saying I owe $815 as my previous policy automatically renewed. I called right away to say I didn't consent to renewal and to reverse it. I was told I would have to pay a cancellation fee! Cancellation fee for an expired policy ? They claim they mailed a renewal notice. I didn't see one and I have every document from them in a folder going back 7 years.

They cannot show me any place in my policy that says the policy automatically renews. I'm currently still fighting with them over $120 cancellation fee and they are threatening to send their claim to collections.

You need to have trust in your insurance company. They were dishonest with me, broke rules, and went to unscrupulous measures to extort every possible dollar they could creatively justify taking. Measures very similar to that of a con artists or a telephone scam. It almost seems the company aim is to hire these sorts of employees and train them to use these tactics to increase revenues. The company is completely unreasonable. Not a quality you want in an insurance company. I have never had a claim. My deductible is so high, the only time I would is if my house burned down which statistically speaking is very unlikely. They should be treating me like a king for giving them 60- 90/month over the past 10 years.

Good bye TD insurance

by Done with TD insurance on Apr 17, 2015

My home insurance with NO claims has almost tripled within the last three years. i had my roof redone in 2012 they said it would save me some monies, instead right after that the rates started increasing. The first increase was the year before the flood in Calgary. When I called there was no explanation except they were getting in line with other insurance companies. The next year the flood in Calgary happened, I live in Calgary I was told it was not because of the flood, as insurance companies here in alberta do not cover natural disasters, the province has to pick up those costs. True. So why? No answer this time, was told a manager would call me back. Never happened. This year I see another increase of of almost $300 a year. I have yet to call as I am so pissed off its ridiculous. I have been with this company two vehicles and home insurance for over 15 years. No more I am quite confident I will find insurance with the same or better coverage for what I am paying for now.

Are you a condo unit tenant? Remember that neither your condominium corporations' policy nor your landlord's insurance policy protects you as a tenant (3rd part liability, contents, etc.). If you do not have your own insurance policy, get your condominium insurance quote today.

No signature or agreement

Contacted TD regarding insuring 3 properties(2 owned by Fiancee and 1 by myself) Received good quotes. Decided to go with insurance, issued debit information. Then quote changed. The back and forths continued hectically because after the original quote, I cancelled my previous policy, and was now without insurance. After reading several things online, and after I had my quote baited and switched on me, I decided not to follow up.

Expecting paperwork, or a follow up thought nothing of it. Despite the fact that they never actually spoke to my fiancee(ie owner of the properties) , any type of signature, or anything.... they just started taking money. Over $2000 for insurance we already had elsewhere.

Surprise increases are hidden

by Michelle on Sep 18, 2014
1 out of 5 stars

I am writing this while waiting on hold for the call centre - going on 12 minutes....
I am calling because TD has sent a generic letter 'thanking me for the business'. When I looked in detail I found a 27% increase with no change in coverage or anything else regarding my home. The increase is ridiculous, but what is worse is that the change is not even called out nor is there any rational for the change - just some generic babble about "many factors affect your insurance premium". The increase is ridiculous, but the fact that they try to sneak in the increases hoping you don't read the 3rd page of 10 font print makes it even worse!

a bunch of a-holes.

by dont_use_td on Aug 21, 2014

Been with TD for only two years, and my third year renewal came in, and another increase in rates and more limits on sewer backup, and the roof. I question them about this, and its due to recent floods in southern Alberta. I live in northern Alberta.

Two weeks before my third renewal, I cancelled. Now I have to wait 4-6 weeks to get my automatic bank withdraw reimbursed that they already took out for the new renewal.

Also, I've been able to get everything emailed to me in the past, but for some reason, i can't get my home experience claim letter from them, (which I havne't had a claim). It has to be mailed.

I wished I saw this site before I let TD be a bunch of a-holes to me, and screw me around waiting for my reimbursment and claim history for my new insurance company.

Now my new insurance company knows how TD screwed me.

From now on, I will do my best to inform people about how TD operates.

High Premium Minimum Coverage

by HomeOwner on Aug 16, 2014
1 out of 5 stars

TD Monnex has consistently raised their premiums but reduced the coverage at the same time.

I filed a claim for water damage caused by a burst pipe and was told someone will contact me the next day. It never happened. I called them repeatedly for a months to no avail. They only contacted me after I threatened to take them to the Ontario Ombudsman.

I stay with TD Monnex only because I was too busy to shop around for another insurance provider.
