Tryed to cancel auto insurance

by Steve. Bowen on Apr 26, 2016
1 out of 5 stars

Worst company I have ever dealt with my wife called 3 weeks ago to cancel our car and truck insurance . After waiting on hold for 30 minutes they informed her that she could not because the vehicles were in my name, that night I was on hold for 40 minutes and then it just hung up.
I called again 2 weeks later and again was on hold for 48 minutes finally some one came on and we proceeded to do the cancellation, at this time they informed me that I would be charged a extra months payment on each vehicle because I was 5 days away from my payment which meant instead of $180.00 in 5 days it now is going to be $360.00. Highway robbery. I even explained to the girl how many times I called.

Unreasonable Money Grabbers

I have just cancelled all policies with this company. I had four properties and a tenant package insured with this firm. I also had four automobiles insured with them. There was one claim on a property caused by a tenant who flooded the ceiling in the apartment below. This is the only claim in approx. five years of coverage. During this claim I had to do the emergency work myself as this occurred on a weekend. Once the adjuster did come he was very friendly and quite fine to deal with. However, the damaged caused to the apartment below consisted of a collapsed ceiling kitchen and floor damage which made the apartment unlivable. The contractor was unavailable for 3 months. I had to do the work myself. Next point is that my policy went from $1800.00 per year to almost $7000.00 . There should be a law against this as they are bandits.I am a retired Police Officer and many inmates are far more honest than these people. I cancelled my insurance and had to pay a substantial fee. The co-Operators insurance saved me over $3000.00 and were happy to get my business. This was on just one property. They also cancelled my cottage insurance and tried to charge me a fee to cancel although they were cancelling the policies as they would not insure the cottage without the home, they were charging over $3000.00 a year more for . Insurance companies are out of hand.Their profits are enormous. The consumers need some protection against this behaviour . Politicians talk the talk but really do nothing to help they are just a lip service for these white shirt thieves.

Using flood as an excuse

by Martyupnorth on Jul 31, 2014
2 out of 5 stars

I have purchased all my insurance from TD Meloche Monnex since 1994. During that time I have paid $55,762.86 in premiums and have never had a claim. Last year I was shocked when my home insurance premiums went up by 43.8%. I called to complain and was simply told that overall insurance costs were going up because of recent bad weather, notably the flood in Calgary. I didn’t flood, but I understand that insurance is a concept whereby several people pool their resources to spread the risk. I argued at the time that TD Meloche was obviously insuring too many high risk individuals. I naively accepted the increase in premiums.

Now a year has gone by, and I just found out they want to increase my premiums by an additional 24.2%. This is outrageous, especially considering the fact that TD Bank is making over $1 billion/quarter in profits.

I really didn’t feel like they appreciated my business so I decided to shop around. Wow, am I ever glad I did. Everyone I called was cheaper than TD Meloche. I’m sure you’ll argue that I’m getting less coverage. Let me assure you that I spent at least one hour discussing each quote with the prospective insurers, making sure I was getting equivalent coverage.

I decided to give my business to ScotiaLife Financial. My new policy is 41% cheaper than TD Meloche. How is that possible? I can only conclude that TD is trying to take advantage of people by using the flood as an excuse, or they’re simply incompetent and insuring too many high risk clients. Either way I don’t want to do business with them anymore.

TD has managed to totally piss-off a loyal customer of 20 years.

Are you a condo unit tenant? Remember that neither your condominium corporations' policy nor your landlord's insurance policy protects you as a tenant (3rd part liability, contents, etc.). If you do not have your own insurance policy, get your condominium insurance quote today.

Terrible customer service

I had a bad experience with the TD home insurance, they disallow the customer to change the house sold closing date even though before the first closing date calling, but try to recommend you re-quote and increase my insurance fee and early cancel fees charging also.
They never solve the issue, few times called, the agents let me wait within 48 hours underwriting department responded, but nobody calls you back, from Nov 30th to Dec. 10th, the manager never speaks with me when I requested a few times.
It's a really bad insurance company, I cancelled all of the insurance in the, for sure it will end their service forever, I will let my friends and relatives change the company because it will cause more trouble someday.
It should get 0 stars.

Worst Company Ever

Back in October, I tried to sign up with TD home insurance for my condo. Originally I got a quote for $333 per year at a discounted price because I was an alumnus at a university. But the agent I spoke with messed up and forgot to apply my discount when he sent the policy to me by mail. I called in and another agent was like - yeah, the person forgot to apply your discount and we can’t add it in anymore, we will have to forward your case to another department so they can add it. After months of chasing down, still no update. Then the next thing they send me is a letter saying if I don’t pay the price they sent on the policy, then they will cancel it on Dec 27th. I called them to check the update and they were like if I were you, I’d pay the full amount and then eventually they will credit you back anything they owe you and they’re not going to send the updated policy after. That’s so ridiculous...I said I’m not paying until I get my updated policy with my discount by mail since I’ve had bad experiences in the past where I pay in full and I spent months chasing down to get my credit back which was a hassle. I said it’s either I get my policy with the discount by mail so I can pay or I take my business elsewhere. Then I called them yesterday and they’re like it’s been cancelled because you didn’t pay and - oh there’s an additional $85 you have to pay on top of that because of late penalty fee/ cancellation fee after the deadline. I told them I’m not paying you a penny for something you guys screwed up on. This was the worst experience ever.

Cancelled w/o Communication

by g1oomy on Oct 7, 2019

We've had a vacant property insured for a year and at the one year mark, they cancelled our policy, leaving our property uninsured. They have no problem mailing our policy with private information on it, why couldn't they have the courtesy to communicate with us that this would happen? Also, they have never said that they won't insure properties that are vacant for a year and lead us on. I DO NOT recommend them. Stay away from this company.

Bad service, shady billing

by angryTDcustomer on Sep 16, 2019

Getting through to their phone agents is a pain. Takes very long and then usually end up transferring you which takes even longer.

I cancelled my policy and they told me I would be deposited a refund after deducting from my last payment some amount. 3 months later, I get a letter threatening with collection actions for 19 dollars owed in the account!

Called them and got nowhere. Terrible experience. I had no claims, but based on other reviews, I imagine that would have been a pain as well. Stay away from TD. Have never had as much trouble or shadier billing practices with other insurance companies, only TD. Garbage.

ON hold

by gooeyu on Aug 9, 2019
1 out of 5 stars

Like many of the other reviews here I have been on hold for over an hour and still have not talked to a representative. I switched to TD because a friend recommended them but I am now regretting that choice. While I was signing up for the service I was on hold for 5-10 min max. This is ridiculous. Time to change to another company.

Long waiting time....

I have tried to call TD bank insurance to cancel my home insurance for the next few days. After 30mins, I have to hang up due to different reasons. Then, I use TD bank insurance app to cancel my policy by sending a message, there is no response. Now, I do not know what to do... I am paying money with NO service.

Deceptive quote process

by JasonW on Feb 22, 2019

I signed up for a tenant policy. You can start obtaining a quote online but at a certain point, you are required to phone in and deal with an agent. The agent I dealt with, while very polite, did not voluntarily disclose some fairly major exclusions. These were only included in the policy details after signing up for it. Among the major exclusions, I assumed were covered were an earthquake, flooding, and water backup. I phoned back as soon as I received the policy details by mail and canceled (1 week after the policy was initiated). I was told there would be a charge almost equivalent to 1 month premium to cancel despite the fact I was only seeing the details of the policy for the first time and had had it for less than a week. When I asked for an email confirmation that the cancellation had gone through I was told they did not have the ability to do this despite the fact that they had sent me confirmation when I signed up for the policy. It is clearly a deliberate effort to be non-transparent to not disclose the details of the policy until after you've signed up already. I later found a quote that was a fraction of the price that covered the major exclusions in this policy. I should have done more research. Just glad I did not have to try to make a claim.
