When I bought my house 5 years ago I went with TD because the last owners were with them and the price seemed reasonable $90/month. Within 2 years they raised my premiums to almost $200/month and I have never filed a claim. I lost my job 2 years ago and was having a very difficult time making ends meet. I called all of my creditors and explained my situation and they were all willing to cut me some slack and give me a few extra days, including my mortgage lender. But not TD. I called to tell them that I would be ONE DAY LATE! and they told me that if I was ever late again that they would cancel my policy and I would be liable for the balance owed. Recently there was a leak in the roof and it took them a week to send an inspector. I was told that if the leak was due to the roof being in bad shape they would not cover it, but if it was due to shingles being blown off the roof they would cover the cost of the resulting damage, but not before I paid a $1000 deductible. They called me yesterday to tell me that they couldn't help me because according to the report there were no shingles missing, despite the fact that I pointed them out to the inspector!!!
If you lied to your insurance company like these people will lie to you, you would have no insurance.
Long story short, they have been happy to take $5000 per year for 10 years for my home and cars. A terrible wind and hail storm hits and they decline the claim they cancel the coverage because they know the roof is damaged from the Storm.
Everyone is happy to take your money, theses pricks have no interest in honouring your policy.
The worst company I had to deal with. I had my roof leaking and I made a claim and they denied my claim and told me that I am not covered by the water dampening problem. When they renewed my insurance policy, they never sent me the policy coverage.
TD insurance only wants the money monthly from you but when it's time to claim, they will make every effort to refuse your claim.
Stay away from this company, they are a bunch of crooks…
The service has always been excellent - as long as I had no home insurance claim.
We had a major roof leak in our home, roof was 12 years old. Adjuster (who would not return my calls and it took me a full week to get her on the phone) told me my claim was denied due to my own negligence. When I asked her how having a 12 year old roof could be considered negligent (!), she asked me when the last time I had been in the attic to check on my roof, said she checks hers monthly. She was rude, insulting and smug and boy did we fight her. Eventually, our claim was accepted but they made it impossible every step of the way.
If you do have a claim, do everything by email so you have a record of what is said or else they play with you like crazy. Once we started communicating by email (and I had made complaints to superiors), things straightened out, although communication remained poor.
Also, they raised my rates by over 50%. I was told this is what they do in certain neighbourhoods, where they have many clients, they don't want too much risk in case of a flood in the neighbourhood, for example. Or they refuse to provide insurance on certain coverages like, sewer backup or roof leaks.
Terrible company. great service when you call for quotes though.
Upon my renewal of my home insurance I was informed that any and all insurance regarding my roof regardless of claim type has been cancelled. I bought my house 4 years ago and it is 25 years old. In order to get my insurance reinstated I must either A) prove to them that the shingles are less than 7 years old, or B) re-do the roof and get an engineering inspection report citing the following: attic insulation R-rating, if the soffit is properly vented, photos and receipts for the new roof (shingles or steel), name of certified building engineer and that the framing can withstand the areas potential maximum snow load. Yikes! How am I supposed to do that in the middle of January? A little heads-up please! I get the feeling that once a house gets to being 25+ years old it automatically fails unless the policy owner submits proper receipts, photos and engineer reports on a regular basis. This will cost me over $1000 to do it to their satisfaction. I wonder what would happen if I put in a claim. My roof looks fine and should be good for at least 5 more years from what I see. I'm out...
Roof damage assessed as old, so my claim was rejected when roof leaked. Yet, roof was evaluated by two different roofers only a few months before and declared sound.
The process has been frustrating as calls were not returned, promises made and TD rationale is not sound. I have appealed and now am chasing down people who said they would call back. No clear timelines and it has been four months of non-accountability. I was asked to submit my roofer's own report and did so, to no avail.
Please note: my policy is deemed by TD Insurance as the Platinum Policy, the very best policy there is for home insurance. I have never made a claim in 10 years.
I am trying to communicate presently with the Ontario Ombuds so awaiting a return telephone call.
If there was a zero star rating, this company would get it. We have been with company for over twenty years and have tried to make a claim with them twice. Once for a stolen vehicle (which got returned). When dealing with the company's adjusters, we were made to fee l like the criminals. Even with proof of purchase of new urea, add on enhancements to the truck we were not compensated.
Now we need to claim hail damage on our roof, got an industry specialist to come out and look at it, at TD's request. Specialist says yes there is damage, TD sends out their adjuster he agrees damage but ... Not enough to file insurance claim. Sounds like being little bit pregnant.
We have had two specialist out and met with their adjusters. Claim denied! Waste of time trying to talk to the "TD Cares" about no one but scamming their customer. Claim started in July and it has taken till November to get an unsatisfactory response
TD is scamming, treats their customers as if they are criminal.
So done! moving all home and auto to another provider. Any suggestions?
