September 8, 2020 - currently on hold for 2h 45m and STILL waiting! No callback option? Unable to sign in to an online account. Horrible!
As many comments are already here. I am a LONG time customer of TD Meloche Monnex. Have 2 auto and 4 home policies with them. Good grief is it nearly impossible to connect with anyone live! Tried the phone. Nothing. Try the online chat... nothing. As far as I can tell the rates are competitive, however, If you can't invest in resources to serve your customers, there are others who will...
Getting ahold of customer service representatives is nearly impossible. Emails go unanswered and the hold times on the phone and online chat are HOURS. Once I actually get ahold of someone they are always very friendly and helpful but it's insane how long the wait times are.
I was out of the country for two years and set up an auto-renewal plan for my home insurance. When I returned, I found out there was a problem with the auto-payment, and so my house was not insured for one year. In addition, when I talked to an insurance representative, I was charged an extra $104 and told I would not be able to renew my plan. TD Insurance had my contact information, but I received no email to let me know about this problem. Very disappointed. I would have been devastated if I came home to a house that had damage, or was burnt down, and no insurance.
I have purchased all my insurance from TD Meloche Monnex since 1994. During that time I have paid $55,762.86 in premiums and have never had a claim. Last year I was shocked when my home insurance premiums went up by 43.8%. I called to complain and was simply told that overall insurance costs were going up because of recent bad weather, notably the flood in Calgary. I didn’t flood, but I understand that insurance is a concept whereby several people pool their resources to spread the risk. I argued at the time that TD Meloche was obviously insuring too many high risk individuals. I naively accepted the increase in premiums.
Now a year has gone by, and I just found out they want to increase my premiums by an additional 24.2%. This is outrageous, especially considering the fact that TD Bank is making over $1 billion/quarter in profits.
I really didn’t feel like they appreciated my business so I decided to shop around. Wow, am I ever glad I did. Everyone I called was cheaper than TD Meloche. I’m sure you’ll argue that I’m getting less coverage. Let me assure you that I spent at least one hour discussing each quote with the prospective insurers, making sure I was getting equivalent coverage.
I decided to give my business to ScotiaLife Financial. My new policy is 41% cheaper than TD Meloche. How is that possible? I can only conclude that TD is trying to take advantage of people by using the flood as an excuse, or they’re simply incompetent and insuring too many high risk clients. Either way I don’t want to do business with them anymore.
TD has managed to totally piss-off a loyal customer of 20 years.
Same as others in this forum, we are long-time TD customers and every year there are price increases, however, this year it is more than substantial at 34%. The sole excuse from TD is that replacement costs are up, so they just chose to increase the coverage on our policy. We are totally over-ensured at this amount and certainly do not require or want the additional amount. I also called and spoke with an actual person who again said the same thing. Forcing customers to over-insure is price gouging, plain and simple! This must be some form of loophole they are using to justify huge premium increases.
It was $1400 less for the year with another Insurance for my home insurance, so I switched. When talking to TD about it, they said they are regulated by Ontario and could not do anything about the price or explain why they are so much more expensive.
I called many times for the same issue and the representatives from customer service and WIS Team cut the call when they do not know the solution for an issue or they transfer to the central number without resolving the issue. They did not say goodbye, just cut the conversation. VERY RUDE It looks like it is the culture there because 4 agents did the same because they were not able to fix the issue on the website. They had to be honest and escalate the issue to an instance that could be capable to solve it.
Canadians pay, on average, approximately $20 per month in tenants insurance. Do you rent or plan to rent a property and want to reduce insurance costs? We will help you get a cheap tenant insurance quote today.
Every time at renewal time, the rates increase so I have to phone in to ask for an explanation. The guy said there is something wrong with the system and will call me back, 3 days now and he hasn't called me back. 2 years in a row now that they did that and nobody calls you back. I have to call in again and the wait time is stupidly long.
FYI, Ask the questions and they will help you reduce the rates back.
I've been using TD home insurance for 5 years. I mistakenly paid 37 dollars, too little, I pay once a year. Instead of contacting me, they blocked my account. I didn't mind paying a higher price because they were easy. I will not be renewing!!!
