Horrible Company

by wawa_sucks on Oct 22, 2018
1 out of 5 stars

The company allows monthly payments, but to pull out on a certain date... that is fine, but if you can't make those payments and do a stop payment (because you can't call and delay), they make you pay your premium in full. I want to say exactly how I feel about them-but the review would be deleted I am sure!

Where to begin...

by unsatisfied on Feb 26, 2018
1 out of 5 stars

Slow response to initial claim... then IF you persevere long enough you'll get the same muskrat builders aka "start to finish" without another choice... then it's the pleasure of the "dog and pony" show....you forward a >$10000 check to these guys and don't see them for 3 months... lose keys to house... should I go on? Total cheap-out restoration. You have been warned!

The worst home insurance

by Moe Ferdowsi on Apr 18, 2017
1 out of 5 stars

The worst insurance home insurance company with a bunch of lazy adjusters not knowing anything when it comes to find cause of damages, just looking for an exclusion clause in insurance policy not to pay.
Stay away from this company even if you have to pay more for your home insurance.
There is nothing good about this company to rate it even one star, I wish there was negative star rating.

Thieves!

by Tiredofthebs on Aug 19, 2014

I have never in my lifetime had a home insureance claim! Never! We live in Airdrie, AB which is the base camp for the army when the flooding happened in Calgary in 2013 because it is a much higher elevation and we don't flood. Does this matter to them? NO! our rates increase by 20%. Last month we had HAIL, did I have a claim? NO! However, I just received a letter saying my insurance is going up another 50%!!! This before they even pay a dime out! Insurance companies disgust me and so does our government for not protecting the public from these thieves! They put agencies in place and when you call they tell you to talk to your insurance company reps! Failures on all fronts.

Sewer backup and hail claim 13

by Hell or High Water on Jun 25, 2014
2 out of 5 stars

I had two claims in same year in 2013, still not settled in 2014 year after first claim, insurance contractor lowballed estimates for some items then added high 20% overhead plus 20% administration costs to total and stated that line total before overhead and administration is what you get 80% of for cash settlement, thus 80% of 60% of contractor estimate, then reduced by additional 5% for gst which I could submit receipts for after work done in reasonable amount of time. It worked out to about less than half of contractor estimate after deductible.

Trying to get a contractor to do restoration but most do not want to do since insurance slow at paying them when work done. I am tempted to go through dispute resolution but more time and not worth the headaches. Roof estimate close enough since only 10% off for overhead and 10%% for administration, so 80% of 80% is better than 80% of 60% for basement restoration.

There story is that we can not profit from our insurance claim, but I told them fair compensation for work and tools used and no future liability is worth them saving 20% but they want to save 40% plus, so they can profit by having us do work for next to nothing after all materials paid but I cannot get fairly compensated for my time and use of tools and assuming personal liability for restoration??

The new replacement cost of items destroyed or semi destroyed meant nothing since they reduced items values for depreciation and then give us 75% of lower amount not new replacement cost for cash settlement, we could provide receipts later if we spent more but with no basement restored why buy anything not too mention they would not commit a time or money limit for storage costs, jut "submits receipts for our consideration" which means we will probably not pay for it or just a small portion of it, but no firm numbers and time constraints??

Cheap not always best?? Do your research and seek out companies that are fair but still reasonable in premiums etc. Would I recommend Wawanesa? What do you think LOL?

Very slow in processing the transaction

by Fidel Cabacungan on Mar 13, 2024
1 out of 5 stars

It took 3 months before I got my settlement.
I needed that claim money to replace the lost items, this are essential personal appliances and I have to suffer for an error cause by my insurance adjuster.
I will make sure to close my policy with this company.
Very disappointed and dissatisfied.

Wawanessa fees late payments

by Ruslan1394 on Jan 9, 2020
1.5 out of 5 stars

My small home Wawanesa home insurance was $890 which was paid upfront for the whole year. The agreement made 1 year ago. From December to December period. Their broker sent me a reminder indicating the due date to pay January 6. I realized on January 7 when got home from work and I shot Email to the broker asking if I can pay the next day at lunchtime. The reply was: my insurance expired! Now I have to work out new agreements and pay higher fees. So higher fees are $1300 a year. I find this a big jump in price. So I will go back on market to find another broker. However, regardless of what I choose now, I will be on the hook to pay Wawanessa the time house, not on any insurance estimated about $75-$100. In my opinion, if a house cannot be without insurance then one should be on a bill payment when late a 30 days normal service provision then interest. Something internet providers would do. Instead, Wawanesa chooses to not accept bill payments and cancel the insurance and then rack up fees. Bad business. These underwater stones should have been discussed by the broker because I gave a call to another broker today and he said usually they give 30 days. I emailed Wawanessa directly describing the situation they chose not to reply.

Unsatisfactory treatment

by AngryClient on Sep 8, 2017
1 out of 5 stars

I had my house damaged by a hit and run driver. I had to deal with my insurance which is wawanesa canada. It is now just over 3 months and my house is still not repaired. They also stated that they won't be able to match the siding as it is outdated. So they said they will repair it with new siding, but it won't match the rest of the house. In cases like this, they should redo the entire house. I have spoken with other home owners who's insurance (not wawanesa) did just that. They made everything match. This is also what i was told by contractors should happen . But wawanesa refuses.

Changed my view of wawanesa

by River on Aug 24, 2017
3.5 out of 5 stars

All I did was change my bank acct information. I closed the acct my personal property insurance was with and I called the company and gave all my new banking information a month in advance. I receive a registered letter stating my policy is cancelled because one payment was missed. That totally changed my mind about staying with wawanesa when my policy is up for renewal.

Incompetent, lazy, overpriced

by Executor of Estate on Aug 22, 2017
1 out of 5 stars

I tried to get insurance on a home that I am the executor of the estate. I was hoping for a quote so I could compare it to other companies.

It took more than two and a half months for them to send a policy. It was not a quote but a policy. The price was twice as much as what I expected. The next day I got another piece of mail stating that they have not received payment. None of the mail was sent to the correct address. It was forwarded by Canada Post. A final note was sent by registered mail to the wrong address. My travel time was more than two hours to find out that they had canceled the policy for non payment.
