Very slow in processing the transaction

by Fidel Cabacungan on Mar 13, 2024
1 out of 5 stars

It took 3 months before I got my settlement.
I needed that claim money to replace the lost items, this are essential personal appliances and I have to suffer for an error cause by my insurance adjuster.
I will make sure to close my policy with this company.
Very disappointed and dissatisfied.

Run!!!

A pipe broke under my house and these awful people didn’t want to cover it. I had to put a public adjuster and only after 1 year as 2 months got they to paid for it. Then a tenant that we had upstairs damaged a little hose/pipe from the dishwasher and didn’t tell us for a week and so we had water damage on most parts of the kitchen and down to our garage. They tried to not cover again but after 3 weeks of talking back and forth and we reminding them about a public adjuster they decided to covered it. Now we received a letter from them saying that they will not cover us anymore. No only that, they made our claims public with lies for other insurance companies see it and make it difficult for us to find another insurance.
So if you are looking for home insurance wawanesa is NOT A HOME INSURANCE OR THEY DON’T UNDERSTAND WHAT INSURANCE IS FOR!
Scammers!!!!
I absolutely don’t recommend this business!

Worst company ever, beware

by CG on Dec 5, 2020
1 out of 5 stars

Worst company ever, beware would not recommend this to anyone, I was with them for 12 years and I had my first claim, they dragged me through the mud for 4 1/2 months then they denied my claim, now I need to go through a lawyer which will continue to drag. Worst customer service, ignorant, rude, horrible employees, Irene and Heather were the most horrible people I could have dealt with. Heather put my claim on hold for 1 month because she had a family emergency, never told us, didn’t return our calls and just horrible experience and people all around!!!

First time Insured Client

This is the second year with insurance. We had a fire and lost all of our personal belongings! The reason why I bought insurance was that our apartment came with newly furnished belongings. I did not expect to lose our belongings in a fire the following year so I bought another hear after the fire. I submitted our claim in June 2020 and the agent has not returned any of my emails, has not called me back. I'm very disappointed as she told me she is looking into an offer and will get back to me in July and had not bothered to respond since then. It would be nice to get a response and an email back but unfortunately, nothing has been sent in response to my email.

Terrible Insurance Company

by DMcowper on Jun 11, 2020
1 out of 5 stars

30 Year homeowner, with one previous claim. I went forward to put forth my second claim, only to be sent on wild goose chases, on quotes, estimates, reasons for caused damage etc. Only to come out with a declined claim. The same issue happened with the first claim, finally got the first one approved. Terrible adjusters who have little to no customer service skills. She even mentioned for me to read the "small print" on the policy. Just an awful experience! PLEASE if you read this switch your insurance provider today. Don't wait. After reading the other reviews I wish I would have changed YEARS ago. Excessive heat (by a fireplace malfunction, high winds and weather) caused damage to the exterior of the home. Any excessive heat or cold in which causes damage is not covered unless it's a fire inside or outside of the home.

Our only claim

Our town was evacuated in 2017 due to BC wildfires. Off we went, in the stress of worry for our community and some stressful family issues too. We went to friends in Alberta. Our agency called us and offered to have our insurance company contact us. We said yes because I hadn't even been able to take insurance info with me. Within an hour Wawanesa was on my phone asking how I was, and how was my family. They were so kind, acknowledging stress I didn't even know I had - you know how you are in a state where everything you've got is being used to hold it all together, certainly not to worry about how you feel about it. I had no clue about this (or had forgotten) but they told me our policy had mass evacuation coverage so they wanted to get that money to us: $300 per diem for the first week. The guy asked if we had a pet. I said yes. He said You get $25/day for your pet too, for boarding. I said well he isn't boarded, he's with us. You get it anyway, the guy said. They sent a cheque to us via overnight courier. Over the next week+ they called a couple of times to see how we were doing and to tell us if our home wasn't burned we'd still need to toss our fridge and freezer and their contents since the power had been off. Our policy allowed $3,000 for that. If our damage was higher we'd need to make a claim in which case a $500 deductible would apply. And if there was smoke or other damage, just call and they'd get an adjuster out. Several times they assured us that they had our backs. Because our town was evacuated for longer than one week (only by a day or two) we were given the per diem for a second 7-day week. The fridge/freezer cheque came quickly too. This was all coverage we didn't even know we had, and they offered it up. We were eternally grateful our house didn't burn down but this coverage and their reassuring kindness made a huge difference in a traumatic situation. We expected rates to go up because of climate change and they did go up by about 50% over two years. I understand. But this year it has gone up by 65% on top of that same reason, according to the agent. Now I am trying to get it down because I don't want to change companies. I don't mind higher rates for the assurance that claims are handled fairly and kindly. But it's not really affordable now on my fixed income and I may have to go elsewhere. Hence, reading these reviews for Wawanesa and other insurers.

Fire

I have had Wawanesa Insurance for over 12 years plus with one claim. I have four different policies: two homes and two auto insurance. In 2019 one of my homes was smoke damaged and I am still waiting to settle my case. An adjuster was unprofessional, horrible customer service. It was in the middle of winter in northern Alberta with three young children and no help from Wawanesa. I had to do what I had to do, anyway, there's a lot more to this story, but I wouldn't recommend to my worse enemy to Wawanesa. And I am actually going public to CBC GO PUBLIC! So they don't do anyone to what they did to me...
