We had a flood in our home and contacted our insurance company Westland Insurance. They told us we were not insured and they couldn't do anything. You would think any decent person might ask "is your family safe"?
I switched from TD to BMO and the pre-authorized monthly payments didn't go through. They said they tried to call my old Vancouver phone number and send an email to my email my old email address.
My wife is the second person insured on our policy and has been a Westland Insurance customer for 11 years. They informed me that they have her phone number but did not need to contact her. A friend who previously worked for Westland Insurance informed us that they should have contacted our mortgage lender once the payments didn't go through.
They chose not to contact our mortgage lender and did the bare minimum to make sure that we were insured.
After we were denied our claim they refused to insure us again.
I filed a claim and 3 weeks later still no payment they are liars and do the check with the courier lie.
Of course, you pay them monthly feeling like you are covered but trust me you are not. I feel grossly mislead by this company. I am a professional organizer and was sold insurance under the pretense that they would cover an event where accidental donate takes place. I confirmed this verbally with the underwriter and I have a record of her asking me questions about it:
to me
Hi Jaclynn,
Sorry, the underwriter has more questions now:
-Who decides which items to dispose of?
-How does the insured know not to dispose of certain items?
-What if the insured disposed of something by accident?
Or course years later accidentally donation occurs and they won't even pay out a small $3000 claim. I am absolutely disgusted that I have paid this company for years.
What your policy says is not what it means!!! My policy says outside structures insured for 39000.00 which appears to be fine, NO! That is not so simple. I recently had 32000.00 in outside damages and you would think that it would be great. No way! They say I should have been insured for 109000.00 for outbuilding coverage. Their formula works out to be 10000.00 worth of coverage. But because they are a wonderful company they will go as high as 20000.00 take it or leave it. So, read by your lawyer because their policies are terrible!!!
Make sure you compare their quotes with any other insurance company in town first! I dealt with Westland Insurance back when it was still Holly Gordon Insurance for over 20 years. Westland buys them out. Now all you get is: people are out of the office voicemails. No replies to emails. They're out to lunch (literally)... at 5 PM(?) working the evening shift, they don't return calls. Prices went up while the service went down. I had multiple policies with this company. No longer. Their service is sub-standard.
I was honestly paying insurance fees for them for about 20 years. I had two floodings both were not my fault. The first deductible was $500, the second one already 5000. When I renewed policy the broker did NOT even mention such a drastic increase of deductible. It was done in very cunning and mean. As a result, I have to pay from my pocket $5000 to fix the damage. Do you need such a "wonderful" insurance company?
Paid the bill over 2 weeks ago, still, have the bill collector keep calling and harassing for the payment. Very rude person! Asked her why she kept calling? She said the head office never informed about the payment.
Westland Insurance are the kindest insurance company when taking money for annual premiums, but should you ever have a claim, they will do whatever it takes to "NOT" pay anything for a claim. They deny a claim based on an excuse, so you prove that excuse wrong and then suddenly another denial based on a new excuse. Cycle repeats. They even tried to blatantly make up a physically impossible scenario as an excuse. Just BEWARE is all I can say.
Canadians pay, on average, approximately $20 per month in tenants insurance. Do you rent or plan to rent a property and want to reduce insurance costs? We will help you get a cheap tenant insurance quote today.
Had house insurance with them for a number of years. Thought it was a little expensive, but it was close and convenient. This year renewal cost doubled. Over $2,000 more than competitors. Gave them the chance to review the costs and after a “thorough review of my insurance needs”, they dropped the cost to be in line with everyone else. Three months after the policy was paid in full, they demanded an additional $2,600, more than their original quote. After dealing with the agent, as the manager is uninterested in even talking to me, they adjusted the demand to $1,400 and sent me a letter stating my policy I paid for 3 months earlier was cancelled and I had an outstanding amount owing to renew the current policy. I have heard from many people in Langley who no longer do business with Westland that this is how they operate. Give you a quote, take your money and then 3 or 4 months later send you a bill for double what you were quoted. Do not do business with such untrustworthy and devious people.
Our Insurance Agent was the Worst. Didn't communicate at all, when she did she was emailing someone else entirely about our account, delays, refusals to pay basic coverages included in the insurance agreement, and overall disrespectful service. We called them for help and got treated like a nuisance.
Horrible company, horrible agent, don't waste your money on them. Because with this company, that's exactly what is happening, you're wasting your money.
