Bare minimum customer service

1 out of 5 stars

We had a flood in our home and contacted our insurance company Westland Insurance. They told us we were not insured and they couldn't do anything. You would think any decent person might ask "is your family safe"?
I switched from TD to BMO and the pre-authorized monthly payments didn't go through. They said they tried to call my old Vancouver phone number and send an email to my email my old email address.
My wife is the second person insured on our policy and has been a Westland Insurance customer for 11 years. They informed me that they have her phone number but did not need to contact her. A friend who previously worked for Westland Insurance informed us that they should have contacted our mortgage lender once the payments didn't go through.
They chose not to contact our mortgage lender and did the bare minimum to make sure that we were insured.
After we were denied our claim they refused to insure us again.

Great for home insurance

I live in an apartment building and had a flood in 2015 that was dealt with by a very friendly and knowledgeable adjuster. Every time I call or email Westland Insurance with regards to strata deductible amount change or renewal etc. I was met with very friendly and helpful staff. Note that they only cover up to $50,000 for strata deductible and you would need to purchase additional strata deductible coverage from another insurer that they use to cover the difference if your strata deductible is higher than $50,000.

I highly recommend Westland Insurance.

Not impressed...

Found this company very quick to ensure renewal (taking my money), and very negative reception whenever I've inquired about potential claims (covering me in unfortunate events, i.e. - the service I was paying for). They didn't end up allowing the first attempted claim (water damage to my storage space), nor the second claim (roommate's expensive bike stolen) even though they had taken the roommate's name and birthdays (they were unclear about if this meant the roommate was covered, and didn't even know themselves when I phoned about the claim). Whenever I phoned about these claims, they started by reminding me it would "count against me," rather than being supportive and showing any form of concern or willingness to help. I highly recommend finding a different insurance agency.

Canadians pay, on average, approximately $20 per month in tenants insurance. Do you rent or plan to rent a property and want to reduce insurance costs? We will help you get a cheap tenant insurance quote today.

Amazing!

I have been with Westland for many years and they have always been great to deal with. I had my first claim with them last year, it was a water damage claim caused by a leaky washing machine. I was afraid it might not be covered or that I would have resistance from the insurance company, but it was handled quickly and professionally. I highly recommend.

3 years no settlement on flood

No one called or came out when I called when my waterline broke. I had never had a claim (this is my second house insurance within them, my family has/HAD 7 homes insured through them as they took over a family insurance company), so I had no idea what to do. They did not show up or call so I called a repair company. They didn't remove all the drywall, only some, but told me that the insurance company told them what they can do. It's still not fixed, they haven't given me any $ AND they asked for some photos this year- I replied with photos (they told me I had until December, I said I could do it by August and did). I sent photos and in December received ancheque. No info. It was only 600$ so not for my claim. I just found it they cancelled my insurance with NO NOTICE in AUGUST. Quality service people. Quality. I won't even insure my car there again. I asked for my previous info and they called to confirm my identity and STILL, still haven't even emailed it to me. I'd rather beat my head against a wall than deal with them.
