Tried getting a quote and was told we can only do so over the phone--no emails whatsoever (I work nights, and this is pretty much impossible to do during regular business hours). After 3 weeks of going back and forth with information, I was told that the "insurance records" showed that my husband and I did not have any current insurance on our apartment or car, and that I had apparently only been insured under my vehicle from 2006-2008....I told him that is impossible as we have been paying insurance on both vehicle/apartment for 3 years, and that I have been insured and paying car insurance every month for over 14 years. After speaking with our current insurance company, we were told we are intact insured, and have been in the past.
A representative insisted it was not a problem on his end, and that the records don't lie. Kind of odd since i have banking statements for years showing Insurance payments coming out of our bank accounts.
This company tries to rip you off for sure!
I'm renting my building out so I was able to get flood insurance as a business. After the recent Calgary flood that caused major damage a cooperators adjuster came unannounced while I was out and when I came back started telling me how old everything was and that it's hardly worth anything. He could depreciate everything by 75% etc. but won't do it and only depreciate 50%. Now, I clearly did not buy the policy to have only 25% of the building covered. Those are bully tactics and they are clearly not acting in good faith or are instructed to do so.
After being with the Cooperators for 30 years, we discovered we could get the same insurance coverage for 1/3 what we were paying them. Thanks for nothing guys.
Horrible, overpriced, less coverage, no responsibility to clients and they have zero accountability. According to the women I talked to at Co-operators head office, she is the only one you can speak to, I caught her in numerous lies and she was rude.
Had a break-in up north in the early spring. We had theft coverage but it took three phone calls for someone to actually discover that. When they finally did admit we had theft insurance their excuse for not checking with the other calls was that most clients don't have on cottage property and the customer service agent I spoke to was new. We have never made a claim in 40 plus years but when we tried we were discouraged from making the claim. The reasoning: do we know what it will do to our premiums and how much they will increase and for how long?... We ended up NOT making a claim. After the cottage was sold I wanted to cancel the coverage on it and our home as I did not like the way I was treated. Even that was a problem, cancelling the cottage insurance was easy as we were selling but cancelling the house insurance... I told them the date I wanted it cancelled and the sales rep was trying to convince me to keep it until I had set up the new insurance. When I assured her I would not be without house insurance between her policy and the new one starting she still tried to keep me. It was like she did not trust me with my own insurance needs.
I spoke with them over the phone to cancel our insurance, 2 months later they send us a letter saying we owe them a $50 cancellation fee, saying my phone conversation with one of their reps, wasn't on file. Definitely would not recommend going with them, there are better rates out there with other insurance companies who won't gouge you when you cancel your plan.
Instead of being there for me and providing insurance after a storm, they denied any coverage and threatened to cancel my insurance afterwards. I had a legitimate claim that should have been covered. It was bad enough they denied me, then they had the audacity to tell me if it wasn't fixed within a month, my insurance would be cancelled. I've been fighting with 5 different contractors to get this fixed and resolve and they will not empathize with my situation. Even though they know the process takes more than a month, they will continue to push you out the door. Do not sign up with these guys, they do anything but cooperate with you. Just another insurance company out to take advantage of you and care less when you need it the most.
Is there anyone else out there feeling insulted by the so called home inspection requirement every five years of insurance with this provider?
Tas far as I am concerned this is an invasion of privacy. There is no other insurance provider out there that does this. This is BS as far as I am concerned.
We had ZERO claims in over 15 years on our home but they kept phoning saying that they were providing a new service of coming in and inspecting our home to see if we were getting the best coverage. We were harassed repeatedly through phone calls and letters in the mail about setting up this new mandatory inspection to the point that we just cancelled our policy. It was just a cash grab to increase our policy. So now rather than squeezing more money out of us, they get none! Now we're with TD insurance and couldn't be happier!
