Awful service, just atrocious

I had a flood in my home on March 14th. Called in was told this is a Sun so no one can help me until Monday. Was never asked about my family nor myself having anywhere to go. Monday phone again was told to send in pics and file out claims sheets. Did as I was told. Still not no concern. Had no stove. All appliances were damaged, asked about meals was told they cover 75% of meals and I would have had to buy grocery anyways and not to go overboard with ordering food (nice eh). When I finally got a settlement, I was given not even half of what my claims was for and told they are not just going to give me money as I may not replace all the things. So they will give me this money and if I spend more they may see about giving me the difference. This is my second claim in 22 years. If I could financially afford to pull my policy with these people I would in a heart beat. The flood was disheartening enough without this bull. If I could give them any lower rating, trust me I would.
first of all i had my home insured as vacant for about a year. I was repetedly harrased by their staff over the phone and email, I was told me that they can cancel my policy because it was a high risk.
Later when i changed my policy and moved in to my place shortly i had major flood. Without any investigation i was told I'm not cover because i didn't have alot of things in my apartment according to the plumbing company that came over.
In conclusion i had to hire a lawer and spend tons of money and repair the place myself. Eventhough i ended up winning in courts it took almost two and half years to get any money back.
Agent from Co operators came to pre inspect my newly purchased house in Trenton, it had been renovated top to bottom, he was amazed at the fact that everything was new and immediately they asked for more
money to up the value, I was from another province and alone, sent the
extra money in and moved in, 2 weeks later had a giant flood, it seems a large hole was patched in the floor when a beam was removed from the renovation and covered with carpet, agent never came until 5 days later and severe damage was done, I was on my own and had to throw 1250 square feet of new carpet out, lost fireplace, shower and all rooms were with water damage, after I nearly had a stroke cleaning up the agent came and said its not covered and left. No warm and fuzzy feelings there! I had to call and have basement redone and then have a new renovation done, am now $40,000 in the hole, do not ever use Co operators in Trenton, Ontario. I was told just after purchase I had flood insurance by them.!
After being a loyal Co-Operators customer for 29 years with ZERO claims on my automobiles, our home and our cottage, I had the misfortune of some rainwater entering a window and damaging the walls, etc.
When I called to make a claim, I was sent from person to person, with the end person on holidays! It took nearly 4 days to make a claim and then I had to email pictures of the damage. Within 5 minutes I had an email back indicating they were not covering the damage. WOW! I always felt I was covered for everything, at least that is what my agent said....They never came to inspect the home and following nearly $8000 per year in premiums this is the level of service and loyalty I should expect? Be very careful of this company, their commitment to customers is poor and you will be left leaving their office with false hopes and they will stick it to you when you need them.
I'm renting my building out so I was able to get flood insurance as a business. After the recent Calgary flood that caused major damage a cooperators adjuster came unannounced while I was out and when I came back started telling me how old everything was and that it's hardly worth anything. He could depreciate everything by 75% etc. but won't do it and only depreciate 50%. Now, I clearly did not buy the policy to have only 25% of the building covered. Those are bully tactics and they are clearly not acting in good faith or are instructed to do so.
Canadians pay, on average, approximately $20 per month in tenants insurance. Do you rent or plan to rent a property and want to reduce insurance costs? We will help you get a cheap tenant insurance quote today.
Had a flood in November. It's now June and they just started repairs and just paid my contents loss. My first adjuster had no idea what they were doing. Their 1st onsite restoration company is no better. It takes weeks to get a response by phone or email from either of them. Most of the questions I have are just ignored. Have to ask over and over up to 5 or 6 times to get any response weeks later. It took over 40 days to get a response from the adjuster in the beginning after I asked what was happening as no one was returning my calls/emails. I once was a residential adjuster with cooperators 20 years ago and the service I have received in 2021-2022 is absolutely abysmal. I'm quite shocked by the low service levels. If I could rate zero stars I would.
They make it sound like they would take care of you but all they want is your money. The salesman makes it sound like Co-operators is the best in the world but do not be deceived. My townhouse was flooded twice in the same year by the people upstairs. Even though it was the tenants who lived upstair's fault, they will push the payments on you and make up a story that you have to pay first and that they don't go after the other tenant's insurance even though it was their fault. Then on top of that, they said when you renew your insurance, your insurance might just go up a bit. When it was time for renewing insurance, they dropped me and said they could no longer cover my insurance and told me to go look somewhere else. Poor customer service with a lot of attitudes. Never have I been angrier in my life. Was cheated by these joke. You will regret going with these fools.
I have been insured with the Co-operators for 5 years now and in 2017 I had to claim twice for water damage due to negligence from another unit in my building. Everything is fine when all you do is pay your yearly fee, but as soon as you need to make a claim, nobody will return a call or email, you essentially don't exist. Excuses upon excuses, lies, lack of communication, and "preferred vendors" are a complete joke! My repairs should have been limited to new bathroom and bedroom flooring, a small amount of drywall, and paint... I am now heading into the 1-year mark and I'm still fighting tooth and nail to have my repairs completed. Something so simple as using COMPETENT tradespeople seems foreign to them. I am on my 6th adjuster as all the ones before were unable to meet the requirement of DOING THEIR JOB, so I would be given a new adjuster when I complained up the ladder. Even trying to speak to a supervisor or manager is next to impossible. Word to the wise, stay FAR FAR AWAY from using this company. You and your home mean nothing to them but a paycheque, and once you require their services, they will try to deny everything, if you can even get a response back from them at all. The worst customer service I have experienced in my entire life, and I have been forced to re-insure with them as no other company will touch me with two open claims. Thanks for nothing Co-operators, you have been less than stellar and definitely do not live up to your name!
My wife and I had a flood in our condo and we have the Cooperators home insurance. Our agent, Tia H. was no help. Other than basically telling us the amount of our coverage, she did nothing. We were left to find our own temporary accommodation for 4 months. We asked if she could coordinate with the apartment complex to and tell us how long we could stay before our coverage ran out, and she refused, again just quoting us the amount of our coverage. We found them slow to respond or entirely unresponsive. We spent $6700 on upgrades to our flooring two years ago and she quoted us $4500 for replacement. Still battling with them. Terrible company, terrible customer service. Will never use them again.

We had all our home and auto insurance with the co-operators for 35 years and have never had a claim on our home policy. We paid them $1,750 each year as premiums. Recently, a seal in our dishwasher ("water container") failed and caused a flood in our condo. Fortunately, I was able to contain the damage to hardwood flooring in an adjacent room and one sink cabinet. Total damage under $3,000 but they denied the claim.
This was the first time, we needed this insurance company but they ran away - said it was a "slow leak" and therefore not covered. Too bad so sad. This was based on findings of mould under the cabinets. On investigation as we did the repairs, the "mould" was stains that are more than 15 years old, dating back to a water leak the previous owner had in the kitchen.
I wasn't even sure that for the small cost of the repairs that I would even file a claim. However, correspondence from the adjuster on this claim bordered on rude and threatening if we considered pursuing this. Even if they believed there was an old leak, one would have thought they might have the common sense to consider the discretion of covering it anyway, given the small cost and the fact that the cause of "mould" could be uncertain. But common sense and discretion are absent with this company. Even a bit of politeness in correspondence might have gone a long way to retaining business.
With this experience, I can never trust this company ever to be present if needed and have move all my business to another company. For the cost of less than 2 years of premiums, the co-operators has lost my business forever.
