As a homeowner who had the misfortune of living next to someone insured by Cooperators Insurance, I find myself compelled to share the appalling experience I've endured. Demolition and renovations at my neighbor's property, resulted in significant damage to my home. Despite my neighbour being insured by Cooperators, the process of seeking compensation for the damages has been nothing short of a nightmare.
From the moment my neighbour filed a claim with Cooperators Insurance, I expected them to step up and fulfill their obligations as my neighbour's insurer. However, what followed was a relentless onslaught of denial, delay tactics, and outright refusal to take responsibility. It's become painfully clear that Cooperators has no qualms about abandoning innocent victims like myself in favour of protecting their bottom line.
What's even more egregious are the tactics employed by Cooperators Insurance in their attempts to avoid paying out claims. It's a shameful display of corporate greed and a complete disregard for the wellbeing of their policyholders' neighbours.
Throughout this ordeal, I've been treated with callous indifference by Cooperators Insurance. Instead of providing the support and assistance I need, they've chosen to prioritize their own interests, leaving me to bear the financial burden of someone else's renovations and negligence.
My experience with Cooperators Insurance has been nothing short of a nightmare, and I implore anyone considering them for their insurance needs to think twice. Avoid Cooperators Insurance if you value integrity, fairness, and genuine support in times of need.
I was with HB Group Insurance for my home insurance before it was taken over by The Cooperator’s. I had home and condo insurance with this company for over 20 years. In the past year, I had frequent contact with the Cooperator’s while I sold my condo, moved into an apartment briefly, continuing to store my belongings, and then finally bought a house. For the first 6 months the reps were great (helpful, understanding, and “cooperative” 😊 ). I don’t know what happened but after that, I was treated very rudely on about six occasions by 4 or 5 different reps in the latter months of 2023 (Aug-Dec). I have never been so happy to switch to another service company. I cancelled my account with Cooperator’s Dec 31, 2023 due to poor customer service. I’m glad to see in these reviews that I am not the only customer treated poorly by this company. Is it now a corporate culture? I suggest to the Cooperator’s, please re-train your employees in professional “customer service” workshops and add some kindness and compassion to your corporate culture. It will go a long way for improving your sales. I won’t go into all the details of my recent experiences, but my experience of poor customer service includes: my boundaries regarding timing for a phone call not respected; I was not heard regarding my request to be emailed with follow-up communication versus being phoned while I was in a meeting; I was upset as a result of my boundaries not being respected and then my words on the phone were read into and taken out of context, and repeated back to me several times; I was referred to a “customer advocate” who I think was really another sales person, but I ended up in tears because of the way I was treated. Overall, I felt like I was being accused and ridiculed on more than one occasion. I don’t think trying to buy house insurance should be such a harrowing experience. I was unable to place a “google review” via the Cooperator’s website. Thank you for providing a place to provide a review. I wonder if Cooperator’s reads these reviews.
Canadians pay, on average, approximately $20 per month in tenants insurance. Do you rent or plan to rent a property and want to reduce insurance costs? We will help you get a cheap tenant insurance quote today.
I called and ask if I could get a quote as my insurance was going up.
The lady that answered was so rude.
Ask what I was insuring I said I had 2 vechicle. She then proceeded to ask why I had 2 vechicle. Hmm. Then I said I also had my house. She ask all the questions and I answered. One of the questions was did I have a pool. I am an old woman and sometimes don't hear well. I said pardon I didn't catch that. She then yells A POOL A POOL A POOL. Ok I heard the first time you yelled. Said she would call back the next day with a quote as they were so busy. Well here we are 2 weeks later and still no call.
I will stay with the company I am with now maybe more money but never been treated like this.
I am a Realtor in the middle of doing a home sale with a home claim on the house being sold. I represent the buyers in the purchase and needed to get information on how we go about protecting my clients when the property transfers ownership and the work has not been completed yet. I have been provided full disclosure from the seller client who holds the policy and been requested by then to contact Co-operators in regards to just the process we need to carry out in this situation. I have a law background and knew there may be privacy issues. The customer service representative I spoke to was immediately extremely rude, curt, short, and just plain unhelpful. I explained to her I know there are privacy issues and that is fine but could she explain in process terms unrelated to the specific policy the steps we need to take. She became more rude and unhelpful and refused to discuss anything with me. She kept saying she could not talk to me about the file, which I kept explaining I was fine not speaking in specifics of the file, perhaps just a hypothetical so that I could go back to my clients with what we needed for assurances for them, and she just did not help. Horrendous customer service. I would NEVER recommend a client to this company for home insurance, and I in a position to guide clients on that issue. It was a terrible experience and ruined my day. How could someone in that role be in that role if they are just a miserable human and cannot deal well with others? Horrible representation for your company.
Employees have poor etiquette and a lack of patience. Payout isn't within a reasonable time. Would not recommend at all.
The payment didn't go through on my credit card. Cooperators proceeded to bill me 4x over for the single month. When I called to tell them they've billed me 4x over, they got one of their attack dog employees who probably doubles as a loan shark to start yelling at me about paying insurance. Dropped this company immediately afterwards.

Do not look to purchase insurance with this company for home or condo. The company provides an extensive list of max insurable limits in the quote, making it look like you have comprehensive coverage. When you actually look at the policy after receiving it if you're alert or worse after an incident, then you'll soon find the list of common exemptions is a mile long and covers nearly every possible instance in which you'd ever use the insurance you pay for. The adjuster I dealt with was rude and unprofessional. They were unable to cite a line in the policy for me to review it, and repeatedly called me the wrong name even after correction. If you want to waste 6–7 hours going back and forth over insurance policy and builders reports only for them to not provide their own documents, be my guest.
