Horrible

I have been a customer with Allstate here in Alberta, Canada for over 20 years...no at-fault accidents and insuring multiple rental properties, my primary residence and all of our family vehicles with Allstate. In September 2019, another driver hit me from behind, I sustained injuries and immediately reported the accident. It took forever for anyone to get back to me...to the point where I had to file a complaint. Allstate wasn't even responding to the company who was their "preferred" auto repairer. Finally, after getting really angry and complaining and the car repair place doing the same, I got authorization to have my car fixed. I was assigned an injury adjuster who never returned my calls and finally after about 3 weeks called late at night leaving a message full of personal excuses why she hadn't returned my calls. Then I never heard from her again. I was getting physiotherapy and seeing my doctor and still couldn't contact anyone from Allstate. Finally, after complaining of several occasions to the Allstate person who sold me my insurance, I got assigned to an injury adjuster. Again, I could never get ahold of him, he never called, he never followed up and again after emailing him and saying I was going to file a formal complaint and wanted to speak to his manager, I got a call and an email. I remained at work (heavy-duty mechanic apprentice) and was struggling. The work is very heavy and my injuries were not getting better... I was beginning to have numbness in my neck and arms and reported this to my insurance adjuster, my physio, my doctor and I was told I shouldn't be doing regular job duties because it was delaying my recovery. My Allstate adjuster was completely aware. I was told by my physio to ask my employer for alternate duties during my recovery. I contacted my employer and let them know that my injuries were from an MVA (and not work-related) and explained the problems I was having in performing my pre-accident work duties. They said they would get back to me within hours, I received an emailed letter from my employer, terminating me because "I was not able to do my regular job duties". I contacted Allstate immediately because I didn't qualify for any kind of disability benefits through work and couldn't do my regular job duties. I let them know that I had been terminated when I asked for alternate duties because the injuries weren't allowing me to do my regular, pre-accident work duties. I asked the Allstate adjuster, what I was supposed to do and at the same time, I asked about help shovelling snow, etc. He did not address the weekly disability benefit (my policy premiums covered but I wasn't aware of) but he did say he would pay for help shovelling snow. I kept bringing up the fact that had I not had the accident, I would still be working and it was the injuries from the MVA and not being able to do my job were what caused the job loss. He didn't really address this at all. Meanwhile, I contacted a lawyer to help me get an ongoing payment from the employer because I was a contract worker with a set term contract and I thought that I would be able to get ongoing payment because it was no fault of mine that I was not able to work. My legal pockets (visa) are not deep as I am a single mom so the claim didn't go long. The employer was willing to go on to trial and I didn't have any more money so all I got was wages they had owed me in my last week and had to sign a non-disclosure statement promising not to disclose the details of my termination and the name of the employer. I kept the Allstate adjuster "in the loop" the entire time. Allstate even approved years worth of psychology appointments to help me deal with the fact that "As a result of the MVA injuries, I was terminated from my job". Finally, I am paying my auto premiums for 2020/2021 and I notice I'm paying a premium for Weekly Indemnity benefits and when I questioned this (wanting this removed) I was told it was mandatory (basically, there is a government portion of every policy that is required and mandated under a standard government policy). I was angry because I had been suffering financially for a year, by this point and the Allstate agent was barely involved in my claim let alone guide me through getting the benefits I was entitled to. I contacted him immediately and he sends me the "forms". Since my doctor and psychologist have been following me since day 1, the forms were filled out quickly. My doctor was completely aware and in agreement that I was not able to perform my heavy job duties as a heavy-duty mechanic apprentice and filled out the forms accordingly as did my psychologist. I submitted all of the information including a letter from my employer saying that I was terminated because I couldn't do my job; a record of employment showing the termination date; dr's letters; (physio reports which Allstate has on file talking about the termination and what the job duties were doing to my injuries); a timeline letter outlining the sequence of events from the date of injury to present. Within a day, I receive an email (not a letter) denial of my claim simply saying that because of the circumstances I was not considered disabled as per the definition of the policy. The adjuster did not even make one phone call to me or to my medical providers to discuss the claim (which is what claims adjudication does). The email indicated that I was terminated because the employer didn't have modified duties. This response was odd. I have been a disability claims adjudicator for over 20 years and knew how to read insurance policies and legislation so I pulled the Alberta Standard Auto policy and their definition of disability under an Auto Insurance claim indicates that weekly indemnity Section B benefits cannot be claimed unless one is "wholly and continuously" disabled by the injuries from the automobile accident". In accordance with the Alberta Standard Automobile Policy, this definition of disability means that the disability must prevent one from doing "any and all of your job duties". Well, the Allstate adjuster is saying that because I could have done modified duties, I do not qualify (I think this is what he is saying but his email is not clear). Needless to say, not once did my employer contact me to say they couldn't provide modified duties (Allstate is making an assumption based on nothing) and nowhere in the employer's termination letter did it say I was being terminated because they didn't have modified duties (again, Allstate adjuster made an assumption based on his own opinion and nothing else). The fact is that the definition of disability says that "you must not be able to do any and all of the duties of your job". It does not say "you must be unable to perform any work". I have contacted the Allstate Ombudsman and have never received anything more than the generic email in response to my submission for contact. I am disgusted with this provider. Customer service has gone into the toilet and they have people working for them who have NO idea how to do the job let alone make claims decisions based on facts.

Extremely Unprofessional and Frustrating Experience

by suresh Heralall on Dec 10, 2024
1 out of 5 stars

Three months ago, I was rear-ended at a yield sign in Mississauga. When I took my vehicle in for repairs, the insurance company insisted that I pay the deductible, despite the accident not being my fault. Then, they only agreed to pay half of the repair costs as quoted by the body shop. To make matters worse, I had a car seat and stroller in the vehicle at the time of the accident, and I’m still waiting for a replacement three months later.

My adjuster has been incredibly unprofessional and unreliable. For months, I've been asked the same questions repeatedly, and it takes her two weeks to respond to emails, if at all. I’ve had to call multiple times just to get basic updates. However, when it comes to collecting my monthly payments, they are always on time.

This company does not even deserve one star. Extremely disappointed with the lack of customer service.

Allstate ruined my life

by FuckAllstate2016 on Aug 3, 2024
1 out of 5 stars

In 2016 a driver was texting, ran a red light at 65mph and hit me on my driver side. The drivers' insurance was through Allstate. Allstate reset every hearing we had for over 2 years. This cost me thousands in lost wages and even more in the growing medical debt that THEY made me accrue. Countless MRIs, CAT scans, and x-rays (each time I brought in medical docs and imagery that they requested they denied it and had me find another specialist for different docs) From what I was told by legal team, they do this when their client is 100% dead to rights liable for everything. When we finally did get in the same room, they treated me like a child. They refused to pull the driver's phone records and denied my bodily injury claim because there was no blood. They didn't take me seriously at all, instead they acted like a typical insecure man with a bruised ego. All I initially requested was for them to pay the ER bills and other medical debt, which started around 40k and grew over 180k after all the additional visits. I also asked for a new vehicle ( I didn't ask for the loss of my totaled vehicle as I was taking the honest route and utilized my gap insurance-which ended in a class action against Wells Fargo) and lastly a feasible settlement to cover the 6 weeks I lost following the wreck, the debt I accrued from reset court dates, and a negotiable amount for the future rehab and doctor visits for my lifelong injuries, until I could manage on my own. They said no, we'll give you 14k. Mind you, me and the other driver had full coverage and our min liability was 60+k. I demanded a grand jury. If anyone with at least one brain cell looked the case, they'd rule in my favor. The next time we met, they told me they spoke to the prosecutor (or whoever) and the deal was that since I demanded a grand jury they had the option to offer their minimum payout which voided my right to a trial. After about an hour of talking to brick walls in suits, they made me sign the agreement for 20~k. Luckily my lawyer reduced her fee, so I left with 18k. I was never able to pay my medical debt. I still can't afford physical therapy, doctor visits, or insurance. I used the money sparingly to keep my head over water... Then 2020 happened. I was not allowed to work, and I didn't make enough to qualify for govt compensation because of how little I made in the previous years due to battling Allstate. I'm currently working with a credit team to help reduce the 17k of debt I have. I'm only 32, the only support I have is my wife, who unfortunately has to watch me suffer through daily pain and can't do a thing about it. Allstate could have handled this with at least one modicum of morality, humanity, or logic, but instead chose to turn a 25-year-old into a broken old man. I also suffer from depression and manic bipolarism which has spiked since the accident. They took so much from me. I was a victim of an irresponsible driver, backed by a greedy company who belittled me, unnecessarily attacked me, and left me feeling stripped of my rights and freedoms. The only peace I get is knowing that the soulless people who were involved in my case will eventually get their karma. I know this review won't make any difference, but I hope that more people like me with step up and share their story. Also, next time you get in a wreck, make sure you bloody yourself up real good, or it doesn't matter.

DONT BE A PASSENGER IF THE OWNER OF VEHICLE IS INSURED THROUGH ALLSTATE

by Jannette Martin on Jul 30, 2024
1 out of 5 stars

On July 3rd a driver of a vehicle ran a red light and hit the vehicle that my friend owned and is insured through Allstate. The police just happened to be there, everything is on video, so there is not a question of fault. However, I left numerous messages, and it is now July 30th AND NOT A PERSON HAS CONTACTED ME!!! On one of my calls in to request being called, the intake employee told me since I was a passenger, I complicated his report. Meanwhile, I am injured, in physio, and even my physiotherapist is being ignored. My condo is insured through ALLSTATE but will not be renewed next month. How could I trust them to react if anything goes wrong with my place.

scam company, refused to have my vehicle fixed

by Milton zachariah Ponto on Feb 5, 2024
1 out of 5 stars

I was in a no fault accident in 2015 the day before my wedding actually. Called allstate right there. Informed the police. My vehicle needed repair around $4000 for the bumper and light. Months go buy and i call allstate asking whats going on with my claim. They say the person responsible gave them the wrong insurance or something, I have to wait. More months go by, i cant get them on the phone, I leave numerous voicemails for them. Nothing. Finally i go into their nw office ands tell them if they dont fix my vehicle im leaving their service. They say to wait again. Nope. I close my account and guess what they keep charging me. I file a complaint aginst them and write numerous eltters, they said i didnt provide in writing that i was leaving. I guess yelling at them in person to fix my truck or else wasnt good enough. I write them a letter and sue in small claims to get my money back as they were charging my card. I still tried contacting them over and over to get my vehicle fixed. Nothing. Finally around 2019 they respond and say its my fault they didnt give me the information and that the statute of limitations for me to sue is past. They deleted all my voicemails and only had one msg to a number i no longer had at the time in 2016- asking me to contact them even though they had my correct number. They also at this time in 2019 sent me an estimate sheet with the locaiton of the garage, I NEVER RECIEVED THIS UNTIL THEN. Allstate is a scam company that stonewalled me for years so they didnt have to have my vehicle fixed and yet they keep harrassing me trying to get me back as a customer. What a joke.

Car Accident

by Agnieszka Lozano Ramirez on Oct 16, 2023
2.3 out of 5 stars

We had a very easy to process car accident, not our fault and we had a video of the whole situation from the dash camera. The agents that pick up the phone are great, I would give 5 stars in this category as they are the only reason our claim got settled. The adjustor however; well, let me just say we have not the pleasure to even speak to her through out the process! She never picked up the phone, nor did she call as back. Very disappointing and begs the question. If Allstate have such a great claim customer service team, why do they need to pay an adjustor who doesn't even pick up the phone? This is the only reason why we haven't rated Allstate 5 stars.

If you need help, DON'T CALL ALLSTATE

by Ihateallstate on Sep 1, 2023
1 out of 5 stars

Our truck battery died, we called Allstate to see if they could help us. They sent a driver who said we weren't covered to get towed because of the area we were in, so already waiting for hours he LEFT US STRANDED, circling on the phone again until we had to call Allstate again and they said we ARE covered and sent another tow who actually knew their job. I had my cats in the boiling hot truck and I can't take them out fearing they'd get sick from mosquitoes that were heavy in the area. So we continue on our trip, pop a tire and have to call Allstate again. Lady left us waiting on the phone for 20 minutes just to tell us we're not covered to get our trailer towed along with our truck only the truck is insured. EXCEPT THE PREVIOUS TOW ALREADY TOOK OUR TRAILER. Nobody knows the policies or their job descriptions, learn how to do your jobs or don't offer insurance to people.

Refused to pay for no-fault accident

by Jason k on Oct 6, 2022
1 out of 5 stars

I was in a no-fault accident. The bumper is damaged and costs about $4000 to repair. I did everything I was supposed to and when I wasn’t hearing back I called them and was told I had to keep waiting because there was a problem with the guilty party’s insurance. Months go by and nothing. I call again and I was told I had no claim and no accident was reported. I ended up leaving Allstate and they kept billing me and I had to fight them on that and I won. A few years later talking to a corporate lawyer and my story came up. He suggested I sue, but unfortunately, there’s a two-limit to doing that. I figured I would contact them again and see what they had to say. They admitted I reported the accident and had it on record and claimed that they made one single phone call to me, but at the time they did that number was no longer in service. I requested all the phone records as they record their calls and I have my phone bills to show the times dates and lengths of the calls it turns out they destroyed all the recordings. They still refused to fix my vehicle which I can’t sell due to the damage.

Non Accountable Company

by Chung Tang on Jun 21, 2022
1 out of 5 stars

I got into an accident and was advised by their agent that I had "No-Fault" and would not be penalized nor have my premium affected. After making my claim I was told otherwise and sought accountability. I got bounced around everywhere and each department was saying different things. After they traced the person who gave me the wrong advice, they were not interested in fixing their mistake. They just apologized and terminated my insurance with them. I filed a formal complaint to their Ombudsman's office and it was totally a waste of time. Their department head just gave me some lame excuses and try to refer to their sister company - which quoted me an even higher premium than any other company out there. I strongly do not recommend this non-accountable, disorganized and cruel company - save yourself!

Allstate is AWFUL

by SMac on May 31, 2022
1 out of 5 stars

I was in an accident by someone with Allstate insurance. It was clearly the other party's fault, the adjuster told me I was somehow 20% at fault and would owe that much to fix my vehicle. When asking for some type of explanation I was given none. I’m pretty sure every accident where Allstate is liable they find the other party 20% at fault because if you chose to stay home and not drive then the accident wouldn’t have happened. The happy ending went through my insurance and they went after Allstate and Allstate paid100%. Got my deductible back!
