They are not accommodating

by Lisa st-Martin on Oct 9, 2024

I received notice that my car was a total loss via an email, not even a verbal discussion. Then the clock starts ticking to return the rental when it was promised that I could return it in a Friday since the vehicle is out of town. No compromise - nothing, and all we were asking was two additional days. I need to pay for a full week. I will never recommend this company and everyone will hear about this situation.

I have been with them for over 30 years. Wow. What customer service.

Be aware

My husband and I have had 2 cars and our home was insured with Intact for years. We are seniors, born in 1940 and 1943. We had a car rear-ended years ago and I don't recall a lot of stress with the incident. Little did I know how things have changed. One car we bought specifically for our daughter to transport her special needs son. On February 25, 2022, in the midst of a snowstorm, she found herself in a snowbank. She called me immediately and my first question was to ask if she was hurt. She assured me she was driving slowly and wasn't hurt. The airbag didn't release. She said the only damage seemed to be broken plastic panels at the front right. I asked her to take pictures and to call the number on the insurance card. I assured her the adjustor would get her a rental and it would be a simple repair. Little did I know. She was told that Enterprise would provide a car. When she called Enterprise in Ottawa, she was told they wouldn't have a car back for a week, and then there was a waiting list, so they couldn't say when a car would be available. Upon hearing this I called Intact. After being on hold for 55 minutes, I was told to keep calling Enterprise and I might find one. I politely told the Intact employee that I was paying for a rental car and I expected her to find a car. After waiting on hold for another 20 minutes I was told there weren't any rental cars available in Ottawa. I told her I didn't believe that and a car was critically needed immediately. I Googled Ottawa car rental and Avis was on the top of the list. A quick call and I was told they did have rentals available. He said Intact had been in touch with him and they wanted to pay $50 daily, and he charged $65. For $15 daily they straight out lied to me. The Intact rep suggested that my daughter should use a cab to get around and if she had her receipts she could get reimbursed up to $50 per day. I explained that she had a special needs child and he did not cope with changes to his routine. I told my daughter to pick up a car from Avis. After 10 days she owed Avis $626.47, an expense she couldn't keep up, so I gave her my car and now I am without a car. I have waited up to an hour several times trying to get through to Intact. My broker says there is nothing they can do. I have not had a call from an adjuster. On March 8th I received an unsigned letter from Intact with the name of my adjustor. There was a line telling me to call....(blank space) or to contact her by email at...another blank space. I called a broker, (not my broker) and got put through to the adjustor's voice mail, where I left a message with regard to the critical need for a rental car. No reply. Strangely, the broker was able to get through without a wait. My broker is Broker link, as useless as Intact. I thought perhaps I was being ignored because of my age but after reading reviews posted by others, it is clear that Intact has a history of terrible service. I am far from finished with them but I have no intention of getting shafted. I am fully aware they have staff lawyers. I have lived too long to be intimated by them. Anyone who interferes with the well-being of my special needs grandson will come to regret their actions.
If you are insured with Intact, do yourself a favor and get rid of them before you need them.

RUN!!! STAY AWAY!!!

by Disgusted Customer on Jan 15, 2022

This is the WORST experience with car insurance in my whole 22 years of driving!!! I started my claim for a damaged driver’s door (the car is not drivable because of this). It has been just short of 2 MONTHS!!!! No response, I have tried calling multiple times, emailing multiple times. Tried this again with a supervisor. Literally, no response so I can move forward. I was given a claim number and then blocked from using it to get work done. They won’t respond to allow me to rent a car. I have been forced to walk with my 2 young children during the winter, while they CONTINUE TO WITHDRAW PAYMENTS!!!! RUN RUN RUN in the opposite direction!! TRUST ME!

Did you know that on average Ontario drivers with good driving records pay $1,805/year in auto insurance? Is your insurance rate higher? Get a free car insurance quote and start saving today.

Not a Canadian service

Our trusted broker submitted our claim. Nobody called from Intact. We have to call just to the hotline. And wait for more than one hour every time we call several times per week for a month now.
Someone put it wrong in our statement. Over one month we are trying to get the car fully repaired. The adjuster never returned phone calls.
Escalated to the manager via voicemail box.
Insurance broker got in touch and they told me about calling us. Nobody called days later. The car is in service, no explanation why missing parts are not approved and they are not paying for a rental car, which is in the policy.
Calling to English speaking line is getting switched to QC and they have to switch it back to Ontario and it is extra time to wait. One person from Intact did confirm this one and only line to call has been terrible for over three months now.
Their web portal is not allowing to log in to review the estimate. It is not recognizing their own policy number. Reported this bug, but nothing happened.

WORST INSURANCE COMPANY

by Shubham on Mar 9, 2021

I have an ongoing auto claim with Intact Insurance. Their processes are super slow and I have had the worst experience ever. I am being delayed for more than 2.5 months for my total loss vehicle cheque. They didn't even pay the car rentals and they charged me $2000 on my credit card. I don't recommend anyone the get insurance from this company. They want you to die for the money that you deserve. Upon talking to the higher officers as well you get no response and no time limits. Instead, they suggest you sue the company if you want compensation for the losses you are going through.

Negative rating always. I have also asked a few of my friends to change their insurance company. No one pays to get harassed or get mental depression when you are in a bad situation already cause of the accident.

STAY AWAY

Absolutely horrible experience I'm going through at the moment. I had an accident about 2 months ago where the other driver was at fault and charged. My vehicle was completely totalled. At first, they were quick to help me make my claim, they were on top of everything, and provided me with the information I needed. After that first day; it's impossible to get a hold of ANYONE. I've called at least 5 times a day for the last two months, probably filled up their entire voicemail box, e-mailed them every day, and didn't receive a single response!!! I needed physio, I needed settlement money to get a new vehicle, I needed to know what was going on. Even my insurance broker couldn't and still can't get a hold of them!!!! They couldn't even send me paperwork on time. I got my personal injury paperwork about 3.5 weeks after the accident and had 2 days to get it in before it expired... I emailed them asking if I still had time to submit everything and got no response (needed my employer to sign some papers but he was on vacation so I couldn't get it in)... I did get a rental car for 3 weeks, but the second they offered me a settlement (horrible offer) they took the rental away and I've been left without a vehicle and without money for over a month... I told them I deserved a lot more based on the service they've been provided, and the fact my vehicle was in 10/10 condition before the accident with brand new tires and they said their offer was the best they could do which is complete nonsense. They DON'T CARE, they honestly do not care about their customers. In a perfect world, I would love to sue to get what I deserve in this situation, but I just don't have the time or money right now and just want my settlement money to move on. I'm such an easy-going person and never complain about any negative situation, but this is by far the worst experience I've ever had. DO NOT GO WITH THEM, so many better companies out there; even if you're paying a little extra per month in insurance, do it so you can get better service.

Had a total loss claim

by intactblows on Mar 8, 2020

My car was a total loss and I was not at fault. Took 1 month after car getting quoted for them to give an offer, (after I called wondering what was going on) - they had system glitches. Anyway, they offered me the low side of car value. and I tried to negotiate. Once they give you an offer they cut off your rental car, even though they caused a 2-week delay by not being organized, and I have unlimited rental car coverage as it was not at fault. Customer service was rude. DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY

STAY AWAY

Car insurance is to give you peace of mind knowing that you will be taken care of if the need arises. It was the exact opposite when our vehicle was stolen from our driveway 3 months ago. We have e-mailed, called and provided all the information we could to help with the settlement. In return, we have been ignored and even made to feel like we are the criminal. When they do respond it's only to say they are working and we were told at one point there was a possibility we would not receive any compensation. We've called the support line to see if anyone else could help but was told only the person assigned to the case could deal with us. We were told the caseworker was sick or on vacation but never available. We were so happy when we received a phone call that the vehicle was found in December as part of a huge criminal investigation. The police reports were sent in immediately but again no further action. It's a month later and we are already out thousands of dollars and still no end. We have been making payments for 3 months on a vehicle that we don't have, the rental car coverage has expired so we now are paying out of pocket so we can at least we can get to work. What I would like to know is how it is possible that companies like this are allowed to take advantage of people with no consequences. Something needs to be done about this, every review I've read is similar, this a criminal.

Bad Business practises

I had an accident that was not our fault. The vehicle was a total loss. They reduced our vehicles value. Then took away our Rental. Once they give you an offer they can take your rental away. It has now been a fight to get anything from them. Going on 5 weeks and they are not getting back to me. Strongly advise finding another insurer as Intact is not there for you when you need them.

If you have a good driving record in AB, you should pay around $110/month (women - $105/month and men - $113/month). Do you overpay? Get an Alberta car insurance quote to start saving.

all they want is money

On June 13 my Toyota van was rear-ended while I was stopped at a red light. My Intact experience began with their representative over valuing my vehicle by sending me ads from out of town dealers showing asking prices when I sent sale prices to him from my local Toyota dealer he refused to budge on the decision to deem it a right off. The body shop that I was sent to had my van for 74 days when they called and said it was finished. Upon inspection I noticed several defects and refused to take it back, a few days later the shop called again, upon the second inspection I noticed there was a small dent in the rear door which had been replaced. I demanded they replace the door with a defect-free one, the insurance company refused with their adjuster actually saying "if we fixed cars the way our customers wanted we couldn't keep the cost down" and "sometimes we use dented parts" also a dent that occurred during the accident was fixed with body filler against my request for a proper repair. The third inspection, bumper skin was not fastened around the wheel wells and underneath and a 1/2" misalignment of the rear door was noticed midway up the driver side rear panel. I believe the body was knocked out of alignment in the collision. The adjuster said they could fix it by replacing one of the rear hinges. The hinge is not damaged. Nobody from Intact wanted to listen to my opinion or hear my complaints. Now they are saying they will just carry on with the repairs and if I am unhappy in the end I will have to get an appraisal from someone else and will have to sue Intact. 1 1/2 years ago the MOT in Ontario charged me tax on a vehicle valued at $18000, so far the Intact has spent $14300 on repairs with more to come, my rental car so far has cost Intact over $6000. Over $20000 spent so far with no regard for customer satisfaction. I don't know how this company is still in business. They hurt me far worse than the guy who hit me.
