Rude broker

by Ria on Sep 8, 2020
1 out of 5 stars

I am new and inquiring about a policy quote for my vehicle. The customer service was rude of asking a lot of questions and when I said ok, I’ll call another insurance to inquire, he just put the phone down. Very rude, not accommodating, and doesn’t like a new customer!!!

So I go to pay my Intact insurance bill online. They ask me for a 13 digit number for my policy. The number on my invoice is 9 digits long!? Are they economizing on ink? Somebody please, fix this idiotic bug ASAP!

STAY AWAY

by Angry Customer on Aug 14, 2020

Absolutely horrible experience I'm going through at the moment. I had an accident about 2 months ago where the other driver was at fault and charged. My vehicle was completely totalled. At first, they were quick to help me make my claim, they were on top of everything, and provided me with the information I needed. After that first day; it's impossible to get a hold of ANYONE. I've called at least 5 times a day for the last two months, probably filled up their entire voicemail box, e-mailed them every day, and didn't receive a single response!!! I needed physio, I needed settlement money to get a new vehicle, I needed to know what was going on. Even my insurance broker couldn't and still can't get a hold of them!!!! They couldn't even send me paperwork on time. I got my personal injury paperwork about 3.5 weeks after the accident and had 2 days to get it in before it expired... I emailed them asking if I still had time to submit everything and got no response (needed my employer to sign some papers but he was on vacation so I couldn't get it in)... I did get a rental car for 3 weeks, but the second they offered me a settlement (horrible offer) they took the rental away and I've been left without a vehicle and without money for over a month... I told them I deserved a lot more based on the service they've been provided, and the fact my vehicle was in 10/10 condition before the accident with brand new tires and they said their offer was the best they could do which is complete nonsense. They DON'T CARE, they honestly do not care about their customers. In a perfect world, I would love to sue to get what I deserve in this situation, but I just don't have the time or money right now and just want my settlement money to move on. I'm such an easy-going person and never complain about any negative situation, but this is by far the worst experience I've ever had. DO NOT GO WITH THEM, so many better companies out there; even if you're paying a little extra per month in insurance, do it so you can get better service.

Trapped

by Disgusted on Jul 27, 2020

From the very start, there was controversy. The broker said one thing then Intact bills said another. When I realize that things weren’t going to be as said which I had expected to work in my favor I was already trapped. I was quoted almost $440 per month for “new drivers” insurance by brokers but was billed almost five hundred by Intact which attracted overdraft fees, so when I reached out about it, I weren’t satisfied with their explanation so I wanted out but I was told that I would have to pay almost $2000 to get out of the car insurance policy. I was furious! This was way too much for me to pay so I was stuck! There was a time when I paid early only to be penalized for it! According to them, that’s not allowed, the policy can only be paid on the due date, and boy everything got chaotic for me ever since! It’s now eight months into this and so I tried recently again to come out of the contract only to be told that I would still have to pay $2000 to get out of the policy. During the coronavirus crisis whenever I asked to have the payment due dates pushed back, the policy went up by a whopping $600-800 dollars. I would never recommend this car insurance company to anyone the financial pressure you’re placed under is unbearable especially if you are not well off financially!

Ripped me off

Avoid this company...They use brokers who give a quote that is more than what is online. Charged me 1000 to cancel a policy after 7 days!

Injury claims department

by JAY on Jun 17, 2020

I was in an accident (not my fault) lots of out of pocket expenses and have to fight to get reimbursed. I sent pics, including prescriptions with names and AB2 info. Called Intact and they told me, yes all looked at and approved....no money... So 2 weeks later, I called and they told - still are not reviewed... Then I keep calling and checking in... Then Intact needs more info ex.. who is the cast and crutches for? WELL... Cast, crutches all prescription have a name on them and AB 2 shows leg fracture. Just dumb on their part. For your information, they only cover 165$ of extra medical expenses!

Did you know that on average Ontario drivers with good driving records pay $1,805/year in auto insurance? Is your insurance rate higher? Get a free car insurance quote and start saving today.

To bad I can’t give a 0 star

What a joke, my first accident/claims experience with any insurance company and I can’t imagine it going any worse, wish they would spend less money on their commercials and more on customer service training! Avoid!

Bait and switch! 2x Premiums

by ontario on Apr 15, 2020
1 out of 5 stars

I have a 20-year driving history with NO accidents or claims. They quoted me an amazing home + auto rate, contingent on my switching my license to a local Ontario license (I recently moved to the province for work). I purchased my vehicle, switched my license but when I went to start my insurance, my premiums were OVER DOUBLE! When I pressed them for details they said 'oh you were given a "rough quote", your actual payments may differ'. I expected a small variation, not 2x! I have spoken with at least 5 different people at Intact to try to clarify the issue, providing additional documentation, etc. and they refuse to change my rates. Their customer service response is slow, taking at least a day or two to get back to me. Worse, they have an absolutely awful cancellation policy where they don't refund you all your money (probably because they can't stand by their product and want to lock you into their substandard, expensive service). I would absolutely not use this company again, very disappointed.

Raises rates during pandemic

by APitt on Apr 10, 2020
1 out of 5 stars

So vehicle insurance is up for its yearly renewal during a pandemic. We were not driving anyways and didn't expect a decrease in premiums. So when we got the renewal to our shock, they increased premiums by 46 percent. I called the customer service to find out why the increase, since no accidents, violations and been with them for years. The representative was rude and gave a lame excuse about them raising rates due to the number of claims they received from everyone this past year. The representative also tried to state will not find new insurance or one that will take monthly payments right now. Hung up and called my broker. Advised broker they needed to find new coverage. The broker stated the same items the representative advised over the phone. I outright ask her if she gets a higher commission from Intact and how much of the brokerage firm that is under does Intact own. She tried to talk around it. I stated that much. I knew from past experience if a broker makes more from a company they will only push that companies product. I advised her to watch me. In twenty-five minutes new broker, new insurances cheaper rates than have been paying this previous year, monthly payments and more coverage. Stop using Intact and their brokers, especially when the firm is owned at a 50 percent share by Intact. It is about their bottom line. Not about their customers.

If you have a good driving record in AB, you should pay around $110/month (women - $105/month and men - $113/month). Do you overpay? Get an Alberta car insurance quote to start saving.

Vehicle Colision Claim

by DisgustedwithIntact on Mar 24, 2020
1 out of 5 stars

I recently had a collision claim with Intact, it took 3 months to settle and they settled unfairly. The claims adjuster was rude on the phone, the manager failed to provide a proper review and when I disputed the decision because their insured driver lied and refused to provide evidence, they tried to blame me for a false accusation of violating the Alberta Traffic Safety Act which was not accurate. I hope that during this time of uncertainty that Intact chooses wisely who they hire to provide fair and equitable claims based on facts not word of mouth. Worst insurance company. I definitely will not be giving them my business in the future.
