My car had to be towed on a highway and was charged over 180$ by the towing service. The insurance refused to pay me the full amount for the towing which was charged by the highway towing company and had no say in choosing the company. I was never told the limitation on towing when I signed the contract with them.
These guys are a Gong Show, they gave me a runaround, had to go through several adjustors, and appraisers, they don't seem to know what they were doing, making assumptions without any mechanical background or knowledge. Hard to get hold of anyone, took forever to return my calls. ...not worth it.
Filed a claim for a stolen vehicle that was taken from the shop where we had left it for repairs. Because the thief was known to both the repair shop and us, Intact told us we had a responsibility to work with local police service to recover the vehicle. Police service don't have the time or inclination to chase down stolen vehicles. In addition, the thief was a known violent offender and even if we knew how to find him, we weren't prepared to confront him and put ourselves in harm's way. To add insult to injury, subsequent to the theft, someone registered an illegal lien in our name against the vehicle. At that point, Intact claimed it had become a civil matter and they would no longer be working a theft claim but they refused to answer our questions about what conditions needed to be met to reinstate the theft claim. We ended up having to hire a lawyer to obtain court orders to remove the lien which was a long and nightmarish process costing us thousands of dollars. Now Intact tells us they know where the vehicle is as the title was transferred and it was sold (illegally) at auction. They can't tell us the new owner or location due to privacy laws but told us we must now attempt to recover it from the new owner. More court orders, more out-of-pocket expenses and a new, supposedly innocent, owner filing a countersuit. 16 months later Intact determined we had done enough and they paid out. But we lost considerable value over that time period as the vehicle market had declined with local economic conditions. We were also forced to pay the legal costs under the new owner's countersuit and we had no recourse to recover any of our legal expenses. The most ludicrous, frustrating, unethical, and aggravating approach to handling a legitimate claim that I have ever experienced. STAY AWAY!
The accident happened May 18, 2018. Nobody cared about me. I am an instructor, I lost my business since the mentioned date. I don’t have money to buy food for my kids and pay the rent. I call every day to Intact for Sarah M. She never replied to my email and never called me back. I told her: my car is my source of income, I have a family and I am the only person who works in my family. But they make money, they don’t care about a customer. They liked me when I paid them and it was not my fault at all, other car hit at the back of my car and I have police report too. Do not select this company. I know they are busy with coming long weekend planning. I am busy to borrow money from someone to pay my rent this long weekend. It is July 1, I have to pay rent. Zero understanding company
I needed to add a family member as a driver to one of the cars. On day 4, I gave up after talking to both the broker and with Intact. The Intact rep could not find any trace in their system regarding my request and pointed to the insurance broker. Hey, Intact, if I need a change in my policy, and I need it now, don't deliver a week later. And empower your service reps to solve situations and help people on the phone. Give them access to the right systems so customers don't have to hear excuses.
Did you know that on average Ontario drivers with good driving records pay $1,805/year in auto insurance? Is your insurance rate higher? Get a free car insurance quote and start saving today.
We had our truck stolen from us in the middle of the day while we were home. It was reported to the police and insurance company within minutes of us watching it drive away. It was nothing but a gong show from that day. We (not the police) found the truck 6 hours later. Physically it was ok but mechanically was destroyed. Blown head gasket, leaking rear diff, etc. They said about 7 business days before they figure out what they will do with the truck. Fair enough. It's been a month and they are silent. We have called several times and keep getting the same story that they cannot tell us anything until their investigation is complete. Umm, hello, we live rurally, public transit is not an option for us and we need this vehicle or a payout to go get another one. They are completely incompetent and useless. They don't care. Find another insurance company and avoid these guys.
First off, I had told Intact that I did not want to renew my auto insurance with them and would be finding another insurance company. However, after having my car parked for two months and tried to apply for a new policy and was told I had an outstanding balance of almost $1000 and would have to pay before I could get any auto insurance. Second, when I finally decided to fork out the money, I told the agent I would phone her back in 2 minutes with my credit card info and that I needed the insurance for that day. However, when I phoned back within a minute, the agent had gone on lunch break and I had to talk to three other agents, one of which told me I had to wait for at least an hour and that "I'm sorry that we go on lunch breaks". When I asked to speak to a customer service representative, I was told they weren't in that day conveniently.
No use in wasting my time describing it. They Suck. You'll waste your hard earned money to get nothing in return.
I was rear-ended over a month ago. 2017 Honda Civic Hatchback sport 6spd. It took 2 weeks for their preferred shop to get a quote. Quote was only $1500. Not that much. After 3.5 weeks, I was told I could go get my car and it was all done. When I went to pick it up, from 20 feet away, I could tell the back bumper was out of alignment. The skirt kit was out of alignment, and there were red and white paint scuffs on the newly painted bumper. Terrible work. This is their preferred shop. No Attention to detail. No accountability. BE WARNED. It took over a week with me calling INTACT and trying to get a manager to help handle this claim. I was told by several of their employees I need a managers approval to change shops and get the repairs done properly as CARSTAR seemed to struggle and tried to give back my car that wasn't 100%. Almost every day I called and got the same runaround and that manager would call me right back. Took 8 Days (business days) to finally get a hold of her, and it was me that called her and waited on hold for her to be available. I waited on hold for over 30 mins and was told she was at a meeting and then conveniently she got out of the meeting when I asked for her manager. So 8 business days and over 8 calls just to get a callback and it was me that had to do all the work. The excuse was she was busy. Who isn't? I can't imagine not calling back one of my paying customers in over 8 days. They wouldn't be a customer for long. Terrible service. No FOLLOW UP. NO ACCOUNTABILITY. But they happily take my money every month. DO BETTER, INTACT! This has been a terrible experience for my claim. This is how you lose customers
I feel I have a responsibility to leave this review today. I am leaving Intact Insurance due to predatory rate increases with no explanation. I moved to BC from Alberta last year and was expecting to pay a much higher bill for auto insurance overall (which we did). Intact provides supplemental coverage, which includes collision and comprehensive. The Intact premium I paid last year was fair compared to the other options available in this province. However, I went to renew my auto insurance today and was informed that Intact has recently raised their rates. No explanation was given except that apparently, the company figured it was charging too little for coverage and wanted to make adjustments. When given the quote for the same coverage as last year, I calculated this year's premium as a 35% increase. This is totally unacceptable and predatory in my opinion. In an economic climate where many costs are ballooning out of control, I would hope that companies take the lead in being competitive and in doing so, place less burden on the customer. I am very disappointed that Intact would actually decide to raise rates this steeply over a single year and not expect to lose customers over it. I will not recommend this company to any of my family or friends as well. Extremely disappointed today.
